Truly amazing experience. Kim Alter is a phenomenal chef and eating here should be on your MUST list. I’ve been three times and each time is not only special but fun. Being surprised and delighted by food seems rarer and rarer, esp in a great food city like SF. But each bite and sip at Nightbird is enticing and surprising in the most fun way. The service is warm and friendly and professional, you feel really cared for, while you get to look forward to each course. I’ve had some of the best bites of my life there - just blown away by multiple courses. Also the wine pairings were inspired!

If you a special dinner to celebrate - even if it is as simple as celebrating life, this is the place. Chef Kim and her team take you on a culinary journey with their attention to detail, artistry on the plate and care that you can feel. It will make you slow down and savour the moment with every bite and sip. It was my absolute pleasure to be able to meet tableside with a warm and genuine conversation about Haskap berries. What a delight! Thank you! Nightbird is a must in San Francisco.
Amazing private dining experience. The menu was so thoughtfully curated. Loved everything about it.
Had an amazing experience/dinner at Nightbird for my birthday. I really enjoyed having multiple small serving of a variety of food. I particularly liked the quail egg, crab dish, and the squab coffee & donuts. I know they've got a new menu for the holidays and I'm very tempted to go.
The service was wonderful as well. They moved our table when we thought it was cold and were very friendly in explaining the dishes to us.
This is a rather intimate setting and was generally quiet. With that said, there was one table that was a bit more boisterous and, because it's a small place, we needed to be okay with it. I like all the bird and owl decors.
This place is definitely for special occasions due to the cost but the experience is worth it. We came here for our friend's 40th birthday and had a wonderful experience. They have a good selection of wines, spirits, and a few cocktails. But the main attraction is the multiple course tasting menu. Each course is small portions but by the end you are fully satisfied. Highly recommend this place!!!
Nightbird is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and while I rarely dine out anymore it remains a space that consistently provides good food, service and atmosphere. It is intimate and quiet enough to have conversation and consistently impressed with its food. I deeply appreciate the craftsmanship and attention to detail present with each dish.
The outside of the building is very unassuming, but the inside is nicely decorated and inviting. There's incredible artwork on the ceilings, subtle table pieces, and great background music. The staff is very friendly and gave detailed explanations of the foods and wine. Everything was plated exceptionally and the flavors were on point. Our favorites of the night were the blackened chicken and the prawns. The chef put together a masterful menu and we were delighted with every course! We also had we soft bread with garlic butter and several small bites. Will absolutely return to Nightbird in the future!
A hidden gem. The menu spans the full range: caviar and scallops, a delicious brown butter ravioli, quail and perfectly cooked tenderloin, plus a host of delicious small bite interludes along the way. We loved the range and balanced flavours. Great service too. You won't go wrong.
If you want a five star experience, look no further. This is absolutely, without a doubt, the BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER EATEN!!! The service was outstanding, the meal phenomenal and the restaurant beautiful. Every course was thoughtful and served with excellent wine parings. They make a point to accommodate any dietary restrictions. And that doesn’t mean they just remove the restriction from your meal. They actually substitute it with something just as delicious and at times I thought, surely this has to be dairy…but it wasn’t!!! All the staff is well versed in their menu and parings. I never had an empty glass and each time we were done with a course, it seemed the next was just around the corner. I cannot say enough about how wonderful this restaurant is. Make your reservation now! You won’t regret it.
It’s honestly shocking Nightbird doesn’t have a Michelin star or some other fancy European accolade. The food is incredible, the ambiance is incredible, and the service is incredible. It’s icing on the cake that we were able to support a female chef/owner as well. My fiancé and I haven’t dined inside since before the pandemic and there’s nowhere else I would have rather gone to break the seal after years of caution. I felt safe and cared for the whole time which made the experience all the better. I don’t have much more to say than it’s worth every penny and you should book yesterday.
Great dining experience with extraordinary service. We tried the tasting menu and every dish was presented with impeccable service explaining what each dish encompassed. Jordan was our waitress/ host and did an amazing job :) we will return
We lucked out and had dinner here while visiting from out of town. What a treat! The tasting menu ate well, was interesting and well prepared. Their attention to detail, including accommodating allergies, sending us home with treats and a copy of that nights menu and their cocktail selection made for s truly great dining experience. And lets not forget the amazing bar in the backroom. They definitely had my favourite cocktails while visiting San Fran. I am so happy we got to dine here and would recommend it to others.
Beautiful restaurant. The food is rich and delicious.
Amazing food, artfully prepared and presented.
Super dining experience. Superb wine tasting. I especially enjoyed and appreciated the two bread courses and the housemade “funions.” I’m not sure the dinner and experience was worth the cost of the NYE pricing, however.
We ate at the day of the dead in honor of chefs tasting menu -- japanese, Californian, Mexican mix
We loved the quail egg, spot prawn-tomato-wasturtimu, pain de meurte, chawanmushi, crab mole-roots, tamale, squab, wagyu shortrib-potato-crunch, peach match dessert (so decadent!), Vanilla foam ice cream w chocolate crumbs and burnt chocolate sheet -- intricate, elaborate.
Yum!
Only had cocktails but man is this spot clutch. Loved the whole vibe and ambience. Nice bartenders and sweet hosts. Dinner is a set menu and requires reservations
