Delicious matcha! We arrived around 1:15pm on a Saturday and had about a 20 minute wait in line. You have to first order and pay at the window out front before you are seated at a table inside. I ordered a matcha latte and my friend ordered the iced strawberry latte with hojicha. Since we ordered drinks only, we were limited to a 30 minute seating, which they did time down to the minute and tell us when our time was up. So not somewhere I'd recommend for lingering or catching up with friends given the strict time limit
Came back for a second time and brought my whole family. 100% did not disappoint any of us! On a Saturday 11am we were able to be seated at the high top table immediately but would've had to wait a while for booth/table.
We ordered a lot (see photos) and everything was so yummy. Katsu curry was probably the most basic one. But the salmon matcha thing and rice porridge things were really good. Like so yummy. My mom thought the latter wasn't salty enough but I was okay with it.
Now.. dessert is FIRE. We loved the matcha pie and the sesame cream puff. Overall so good. We also got an Iced strawberry matcha latte and once mixed it was just properly sweet but not too sweet. Thank you!

On a weekday afternoon there wasn't a line for dining but there was for ordering Togo/pickup. Once seated, the food and drinks and snacks come out very quickly, and you have 1 hour time limit. I'm not sure if it is strictly enforced during off peak hours though.
Their pork katsu sandwich is really yummy. It's very crispy. Their matcha cream pie slice is quite big, and the cream is very sweet and flavorful, the matcha is very thick, and the crust is very crispy and flaky. I thoroughly enjoyed it!
Their matcha latte was not that sweet, which I think is more authentic but might not be to everyone's preference.
Overall great experience and would definitely come back.
We must have missed out on something!Walked by yesterday (8.26.23) and was wondering what this massive block-long line for Stonemill Matcha was about. I’m from out of town. Come to find out it’s closing for good today and their fans are coming one last time, to support and say farewell. What a beautiful sendoff! Good job SF, and best of luck to the owners of Stonemill Matcha.
Love it so much, it makes me feel like in Japan.
Everything is delicious & it's always busy but the staff is all super nice.
The dessert is awesome, don't forget to give it a try.
This place is so cute. Great food and drink offerings that can accommodate people with different appetites, peaceful ambiance, quick service. We were fortunate to be seated immediately after placing and paying for our order at the entrance-turned-window.
I got their hojicha latte, $5.75, which was wonderful. My friend got their rose matcha latte with a shot of ginger, $6.25, which mainly tasted like ginger (I was not a fan as I’m not a huge fan of ginger). He also got their Japanese seasonal salad with chicken katsu ($12 + $5). And we got a soufflé cheesecake to share, which was light and fluffy.
Best for matcha fan! Matcha cream pie was a little too sweet and not flavourful enough for me. But drinks and sesame cream puff are really good! Would go back to try savory meals again!
Was so happy to see Stonemill Matcha's soft re-opening after closing this summer! There is still always a line - but it moves relatively fast - and once we were seated we didn't wait long for our orders - even though it was pretty crowded. Everything felt pretty much the same - the service was great, the interior was cute, the food was delicious and the matcha lattes were perfect. Everything on the menu is a little pricey, but the portions are larger than average - even the matcha lattes were pretty large. After my Matchazuke and a Rose Matcha Latte - I was so stuffed I couldn't finish it all! We love matcha!! 🍵🍵🍵
We just absolutely love this place. The food was so good that it brings back memories of our travel to Japan. The place is spacious with good lighting, and has a quiet zen-like ambience. But they are famous for the matcha (green tea) based drinks and desserts. The Strawberry Mont Blanc is so delicious that it rivals some of the most famous patisseries in SF. It has so many layers of flavor and yet so well balanced that this dessert alone would make it worthwhile pay a visit to this modest Japanese cafe. You have to give it a try, and you won't be disappointed.
Cute shop with really good food. I enjoyed the katsu sando and i really recommend the sesame cream puff. The cream puffs are amazing! The iced matcha could’ve had a strong profile but still worth the try.
4.5/5 if you’re someone looking for a cafe that does it all. The strawberry matcha ($7) was amazing 5/5. The 1hr dining policy, the ordering outside to come inside after, and the lack of Wi-Fi makes it difficult to enjoy studying/working/lounging here. The ambiance is great, I just wish they were more okay with having people stay longer to enjoy food and drink.
