Golden Island Cafe offers an extensive menu of classic Hong Kong style desserts and snacks.
I came here late at night on a Sunday evening to catch up with some friends. The staff was very welcoming and we were seated quickly. The interior is well-lit and while seating may not be the most plentiful, it definitely adds to the cozy ambiance of the store. I ordered my classic go-to which is the grapefruit with mango and sago. The dessert was packed full of mango flavor, exactly what I expected it to be (needless to say I enjoyed my dessert).
If you're looking for a late-night dessert spot, then Golden Island Cafe should definitely be on your go-to list!
Don't fret it is a great spot! Be wary of the crowds if you go on weekends, or just after 6pm weekdays --as there are usually lines and waiting lists, I suggest the Mixed fruit with Mango Sago--especially during October, one of SF's warmest months. Simply refreshing delights and free tea upon walking in the door, I cherished this little, glowing, corner haunt when I lived up the road, now it is a nostalgic place to visit from time to time.
A local boba tea establishment in my neighborhood also has lots of other kinds of sweet treats and goodies. I had the coconut milk which was completely delicious; really strong coconut taste with icy slush to complement it. My wife had the green tea ice cream which was also very good. Usually this place is packed with lots of schoolkids from the area. On this day they were not as busy so we were afforded much time to enjoy the ambiance. They also offered us hot tea in addition to what we ordered. Will definitely go back for the coconut milk if not something else on the menu.

I had green tea ice cream and my honey had milk tea for dessert and it was delightful usually this place is full of minors using what I presume to be the free Wi-Fi (frightening but true, since there is no such thing as free Wi-Fi) but since we went in the early evening there was tons of space. Would recommend for a variety of authentic Asian desserts and dishes!
Got the mango sago and fried chicken and was very pleased. Affordable, tasty, good portion
A good variety of Hong Kong tong shui made with simple ingredients. Reasonable pricing. Definetly the best in the area, although it's far from the stuff you'd get at Honeymoon Dessert. Usually a wait- there are only three working staff. I would recommend the red bean tapioca drink if you're looking for something unique. Sago is good too. The sweet sesame soup isn't the best, however. Also, I wouldn't recommend any of the savory stuff.
