If you're not a fan of traditional Japanese cuisine and lean towards Americanized or Korean/Chinese-influenced Japanese dishes, Okayama might not be your top choice. However, if you're seeking a more authentic Japanese experience, this restaurant delivers. Upon entering, we were immediately greeted with a warm smile. The attentive and polite service, along with the aroma reminiscent of a Japanese home kitchen, set the tone. Okayama stands out with thick sushi slices, a departure from neighboring establishments. The classic Japanese home-style cooking impressed us, and the portions and prices were reasonable. Although slightly off the main street, free parking at the back and side street adds convenience. For a reasonably priced fish-centric dinner for three in San Jose, Okayama is worth trying. Our diverse selection, including Philadelphia, Golden California, Summer Smoothies (Mango), Shrimp Tempura R, Dynamite Roll, Dragon Roll, Crunch Roll, Tempura Mix Appetizer, and Iced Tea, was both delicious and a good value.
The place is clean and the atmosphere is vibrant. I like their decorations and their delicious food!
The spicy pork ramen was tasty, the pork was thick and tender. The broth was well made, and the noodles are good as well.
The California is a regular cali roll. You can’t go wrong with it.
The deep fried crab meat that goes with the juice from the sliced orange was well balanced. You wouldn’t want to miss out this dish when you come here!
This restaurant was open after 2 pm on a Friday in Japantown so we stopped by. We ordered a couple of bentos and one sushi. It was fine, not wow, but we were hungry and it was a late lunch. The serving size for the bento was generous. Service was nice.

Reasonable prices, Best Sushi in town
BK
One of my very favorite places to eat in town! Their food is very good and priced reasonably. The service is very fast and they only approach when you look to be finished or need more of your drinks, which is perfect for eating out with friends. The interior is also extremely cute and comfy.
I have found me a go to spot for my sushi cravings. 🍣 and 🍱
The two sides/three sides bento is outstanding. All options so yummy 🤤 - (we tried almost all of them btw) the variety of rolls with some Star Wars reference outta this world! Service was great, order came fast, food is yummy (got sake and Sapporo as well) well what else would i ask for. Had a wonderful lunch date with the wifey. Thank you Okayama 🙏🏾
I ordered 3 rolls for takeout: rainbow roll, fantasy roll, and a spicy tuna roll. Came out to about $44.
The taste and the quality was great. They threw in a free edamame. I'm happy
The food itself was hot and a good cooked. The rice sadly didn’t have a lot of own taste. I also had a stomach upset later but that is probably cause my stomach didn’t tolerate the onions so no fault here. The salad and chicken was excellent. The price is fine if you only drink the water they serve you. Also the room is really nice. You can smell the cooking and they have a funny Star Wars vibe.
Pretty decent sushi, but very American. I had the broiled Saba, which was very good with the shioyaki. The skin was very crispy and the flavor was just right. Oddly enough, the Saba came out before the rolls did. Overall the rolls were interesting as they have a star wars section of their menu. The overall atmosphere of the place is very laid back, which is comfortable to be in. Service is pretty quick and the people are nice.
Really great service and accommodating staff. They have a great lunch special (until 4 PM) that includes your choice of two or three items for either 16.99 or 19.99. I had the salmon teriyaki and I love that. She asked if I wanted the sauce on the fish or if I preferred it on the side. I ordered salmon nigiri as my second item and when I received my bento box it was a salmon roll instead. They did not hesitate to replace it with the item that I wanted, which I really appreciated!
The rolls are pricey at almost $20 each, but they are huge! Definitely share them if you want variety.
Overall, I prefer Amami Sushi for its value, freshness, and flavor, but this is a great choice that's open after 2 PM when most Japanese restaurants are closed. They also have their own free parking lot, which is a great bonus in Japantown!
This was a nice surprise for me. I was looking for a place to have a quiet and light lunch and it definitely exceeded my expectations, from the host's treatment, the atmosphere of the place, its cleanliness, speed of service, and taste of the food.
I know the photographs don't do the dishes much justice, but trust me, the flavor, consistency, and freshness are there. Their menu is very wide and varied (many vegetarian options!)
I had:
- Vegetable tempura
- Special Vegi roll (shitake mushroom, cucumber, asparagus, yamagobo)
- Crack me Up Roll (deep-fried spicy tuna roll on top with house sauce and tokikko)
Give this place a try, I promise you won't regret it.
