Had the famous catfish here. Each piece was succulent and tasty. It’s fun making spring rolls. Note that although the menu says it feeds 2, it can definitely feed 3 or possibly 4 people. Pro tip: go ham on the sauce and lettuce. It makes the experience even better!

What a fun meal! There aren't a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the bay area that does turmeric fish (cha ca la vong) $33 like Thien Long. It smells great if you let it sit for a bit and let the little fire under the metal plate sizzle the dill and onions table side. You can wrap your own spring rolls (+$3 for rice paper) like Anh Hong in San Francisco. It does come with big pieces of leaf lettuce so the rice paper is not necessary. I liked how it comes with a piece of rice cracker you can put inside the spring roll. The yellow spice turmeric is great for burning fat tissues. But since the fish is fried, it negates the health benefits of this meal. On a side note, we had their seafood crispy egg noodles $16.50 as an appetizer. This was good. I wouldn't come here especially for their crispy noodles. Service was excellent.

Overall: 4.5/5 (dine in)
We came here for Mother's Day dinner around 6 PM and it was crowded. We had to wait about 20 minutes before we were seated. The service is a bit slower, & the workers had a bit of an attitude.
Pho Ap Chao Bo Don - Crispy Chow Fun With Stir Fried Beef & Vegetables ($16.50): This looks great in picture & in presentation but the taste is mid. The big blocks are pho are fried flat rice noodles. They don't have any flavor ready. The sauce is also mild and just not something I enjoy. Beef was okay too.
Bun Cha Ca La Vong - Grilled Fish With Thin Noodle & Vegetables ($32.95): This is meant for 2 people to share; my mom & I shared and we still had leftover. This is our go-to item whenever we come here. The fish was as good as always - the pieces were big, soft, and tasty. I wish they gave a little bit more noodles. We didn't think there was enough so we were mostly just eating the fish with the vegetables.
Bun Cha Ha Noi - BBQ Pork & Pork Patties With Thin Noodle ($16.25): The BBQ pork was good but the pork patties were just okay. Gao Viet Kitchen's Bun Cha Co Linh is way better.
Banh Bot Chien Trung - Fried Flour Cake With Egg ($11.25): This is also another go-to item whenever we come here. They make the flour cake so crispy. Love the flavors for this appetizer.

Cash only. And you gotta work for your good here. They give you the ingredients but you gotta roll that baby up yourself. Very traditional with the fermented shrimp/ fish sauce. But the fried fish and dill combo inside fresh lettuce and rice paper is quite a treat

CASH ONLY. Wonderful Vietnamese restaurant, the flavors of the grilled meat were amazing. Portions were huge and price was pretty reasonable. The restaurant was packed but no wait. Service was a bit lacking, nobody came to refill my water but that's ok, the food was just awesome and I will absolutely be coming back. The fried shrimp cake was also really good, juicy inside and the bean curd had a great crisp to it. The fish sauce was not overpowering, not too salty, just added really nicely to the flavours. Their desserts looked great but I'm not sure how people have room to eat any after their main dish. There are also a lot of other places in the same plaza to get dessert if you wanted something different. Everything from fresh fruits, to mochi donuts, taiyaki ice cream, boba, etc.

Ordered the #34B, the same thing everyone orders from this place. The fish on a searing hot plate. Comes with grilled vegetables cooking on it, rice wraps, vermicelli noodles, lettuce, mint, dill, etc.
$30 and is supposed to feed two people. That said, two people who eat a decent amount are likely to not feel full on this without an extra dish, especially since fish is a "lighter" protein.
It's not a cheap meal, but they are consistent, quick, and it's good. I come down to SJ to eat here a couple times a year.
Recommended.

This review is mainly for the grilled fish "cha ca la vong" because that’s what I come here for! I go here every chance I get. This is one of my favorite dishes and hard to find a place that makes it good. It’s more of an interactive meal if you choose the rice paper option. You make your own rice paper rolls at the table. So good! This time we got the beef too and it was pretty good but I still prefer the fish. The portion size for both is pretty good. My hubby loves A3 too...bot chien! Lol...oh yeah, the avocado smooth is legit too (I get it with half sugar). 🐟🥗🥢🥬🥑
CASH ONLY but they have an ATM machine inside!!!

I've eaten here twice now and both times everything was fresh and delicious. The first time we came some good friends took us here, because it was their favorite Vietnamese restaurant with their favorite dish which was an incredible grilled fish dish where you make your own rolls. The Boba tea is nice to have with your meal or have for dessert.

This place is all vegetarian. Really loved the creativity of the food and the wide selection they had to offer. Tried the shaken beef rice plate, broken rice plate, and the pork spring rolls. Everything tasted good and the food was fresh. Table service is a bit lacking but overall it was a positive experience.

Sure service may not be the best. But their cam ca la vong is! Best turmeric dill Vietnamese fried fish in Bay Area.

We only come this restaurant when we’d like to eat Cha Ca La Vong. It is a large portion, my friend and I couldn’t finish them all. I love how they service with a lot of veggies and different kinds of dipping sauces. Service is good and price is reasonable.

Had an early lunch on Sunday 06/05/2022, around 11:30 am. Seems much slower than in the past. Cash only establishment.
Had the usual turmeric & dill grilled fish set. Guess the restaurant is trying to contain cost/cut corner where the waitress asked if we wanted rice paper which will be extra fee. It used to be included in the set price.
We opted out of the rice paper so I don't know how much the extra fee would be. Should have asked. Just a heads up so you won't be surprised for the extra fee.
The grilled fish set taste stayed consistent but my lunch date was complaining about the fish freshness. The fish fillets were more flaky and less resilient. A possible of reheat instead of freshly made when it was much busier.
I noticed this is the trend with restaurants with my own personal experiences dinning out the past few weeks. It appeared that inflation/economy has caused people to tighten their purse string. Less customers dinning out causing restaurant to churn out less food...hence the freshness/quality of the food gets impacted.
I confirm the recipe/taste stayed the same. Still good value set to share for 2 people.

My favorite place for fish at a Vietnamese restaurant. The fish is the fillet type without bones. You eat it with rolls. It takes some effort if you are not used to rolling. My next favorite dish is the seafood crispy noodles. It's so crispy it flies off the plate. Just don't drop the shrimp. Tasty! Make sure you bring cash. No card reader available.

Our favorite noodle soup place, see lots of people ordering dishes that come on a metal plate that has a burner underneath. We jokingly call it the flaming fish dish. It's pretty good, but I opt to put out the flame because I don't like the smell. Pro tip...it's an alcohol based fuel, easy to snuff with a little condement dish. 😎

I came to this place a few years ago and it stayed on my mind. Service and employees were nice and service was fast and great. Prices are reasonable and they have a variety of dishes and hot pots. This place has not disappointed at all and definitely I will be back for great Vietnamese food.

Everyone gets the fish slices here. The seafood crispy noodles is one of a kind too. Very tasty and special. Different from other Asian food I tried.

One of the best pho places around! The beef noodle soups are the ones to have! Social distancing is pretty great here with tables blocked every other table!

Quite authentic! Dining here transport me back to Asia! The atmosphere! Foods good too! Cash only. There's an ATM in there tho.

Love the Cha Ca La Vong here! Must order if you come in since the cooked fish is amazing. Says it serves too but easily could serve 3-4 people depending how hungry you are.

The pho broth is on point, had it with fresh made noodles. Very good. However, service could be better. The server never checked on us nor give us a refill until asked.

Food is always on point. Nicely priced and just so good.

Bun tom thit nuong no. 28 is legit. I love that they butterfly the shrimp and the pork is so savory. I've only gone a handful of times and it's never a disappointment.

Buena comida, todo muy fresco, las verduras recien cortadas, el servicio estupendo, y el precio muy bien.
