I am pleased that I stumbled upon this restaurant. It will quickly become one of my go-to Chinese places. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and although not very spacious, it provides a relaxed and pleasant environment to enjoy your meal. Moreover, the menu is quite varied and offers more vegetarian options than you would typically find in Chinese restaurants.
Try their food and enjoy a complimentary dessert of ice cream!
The food here is overall great! The only thing that holds me back from giving it 5 stars is that the vegetable options aren't very tasty.
HOWEVER, this is probably the BEST halal Chinese spot my husband and I found across the Bay area.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Mongolian beef, general tao's chicken, and the house special fried rice. The prawn+veggies we got was okay - we like adding a veggie dish but so far have not found one we love extremely like the other dishes pictured.
STAFF: Very friendly and fast and serving.
ENVIRONMENT: cozy family spot.
Visiting Ma's Restaurant after a long time and it did not disappoint us. The Mongolian Beef with a little chili oil was the stand out dish on this visit. The kids liked the chicken soup and the noodles and spring rolls. The lamp dumplings were great. Fried rice was good too. We will be back soon even though it is a bit of a drive.
We had dinner here & loved every dish we ordered. I especially loved the spicy beef tendons, even thou they were quite salty! The fish tasted good and didn’t have a fishy smell to it. There was self serve ice cream machine and we couldn’t help ourselves & had some before our dinner came! 🤪
This place is a legit chinese restaurant in the bay area. Food is halal and delicious, and service is also both efficient and attentive. Menu selection is also excellent. Try the beef dumpling or the chicken menu. They're good. Free ice cream dessert, which they don't really have to do it but yeah it wins the kids.
Dining area is also spacious and there's a couple of large round tables to sit people with extended family or a medium sized group. Chinese tea comes complimentary with dining.
We went to Ma’s restaurant tonight, and every dish we ordered was exquisite. Bonnie, the server, was helpful, courteous and great. We ordered prawns with walnuts, General’s chicken, sesame bread, rice and seafood chow fun. The food was very fresh, tasty and delicious. The portions were big, and the food is unsurpassable. We can’t wait to go back soon.
Everything we ordered was good. Oxtail was good and it was a good portion too. Everything was a good portion. I didn’t get to try to green onion pancake. Must have been good since my family finished it before I could try it.
Nice touch to have a self serve soft serve machine.
We will come back for sure. Parking lot has security and a police car parked. Don’t leave anything in your car.
Whenever not feeling well or sick- we just order their hot and sour chicken soup and make us feel alright!
We also have our other favorites there plus their staff is so nice….
Bonus there’s a free ice cream!
I love Chinese Islamic food - great portions, diverse selection of amazing dishes, and abundant tea. It is a real treat to try different Halal dishes, especially in different cities.
We flew in from Chicago just today - visiting relatives we have not seen in many years. Ma’s Restaurant was recommended by one of them.
You MUST order the sautéed fish (not fried)!! This was the best fish fillet dish I’ve had - incredibly fresh fish, so tender and soft, WOW.
Also, under cold dishes, order the jellyfish and cucumber dish - the jellyfish is so fresh and chewy! Loved it.
I love chive buns and green onion pancakes, so we ordered them, but honestly, it fell short of expectations. The chive buns were beautifully pan fried, but that was the extent of it. Too hard of a shell with not much flavor, and the inside filling was a touch on the saltier side. The green onion pancakes looked so nice but was unfortunately too thinly made. It needs to have the right balance of thickness and chewiness, with flaky layers.
At the end of the night when we got the check, there was a double charge of steamed rice when we only ordered one bowl ($3.00). So we just mentioned it to the waitstaff. Hurriedly, two other employees came over in a huff and argued with us, saying my brother ordered an extra bowl (which he never did). One aggressively even pointed at my brother.
Look, my family has been in the restaurant business for many decades. We know the incredible stress, pressure, and challenges that comes with running a successful restaurant. Restaurant workers do not get enough credit nor praise. Yet they show up, everyday, feeding families and communities.
However, why would we try to swindle a small business over a $3 bowl of rice?
The attitude and level of disrespect from the two waitstaff was inappropriate and unnecessary. Minus 1 star for the accusatory nature of how the staff treated us re: the check.
It’s a pretty decent Chinese restaurant. We went there on a Friday night and it wasn’t that crowded. Their food is pretty good but their service is average. I tried the eggplants with spicy garlic sauce, egg rolls and the sesame pancakes. I liked the egg rolls more than the rest and honestly don’t think I’ll order the sesame pancakes again. Overall I recommend trying this place if you’re in the area.
Authentic Chinese food and it is Halal, delicious, plenty of cozy sitting area, ample parking. This place puts a smile on our faces after a long drive from Glass Beach.
Really, really phenomenal Chinese food with BIG portions.
The first sentence really sums up the experience but... there are a ton of great options on this menu. This was my first time here so we ordered like 6 or 7 dishes and we were SHOCKED at how large the plates of food were - we literally couldn’t fit all the platters on our table.
Now normally I would say with portion sizes that extreme a restaurant would be compensating for maybe less than ideal food, but everything we had was very, very delicious - couldn’t have been happier.
They also have free soft serve for when you finish your meal.
Definitely looking forward to coming back!
Our meal started out with a bowl of Hot & Sour soup tasty but a bit more tofu than Iike. We ordered Pineapple Chicken & Spicy Garlic Chicken. Our food arrived hot and abundant, with a large bowl of rice to share.
Everything was fresh and so good. This will be our new go to place for Chinese food. If you are in the area make it a point to stop by.
Lunch for two was around $25.
If you are looking for a HALAL Chinese cuisine option then this restaurant is for you. I had Chicken Chowmein, Chicken Fried Rice and Prawns in Special Sauce there. The Prawn Sauce was extremely yummy. They have a spacious dining area but it may be too crowded in weekends and the service there may be too slow. They offer complimentary icecream cone per person.
I have a huge soft spot for lamb and hand pulled noodles. Luckily for me, this place has both, and a ton of other tasty dishes besides. Great tasting comfort Chinese food, huge servings, and decent prices. Awesome!
