I am only reviewing this place for the ambience and drinks, didn’t really eat anything. I was passing by while walking through OSJ and noticed this rustic old building that had a bar and few tables. I was told by the bartender that it is approximately 500 years old and had something to do with the church across the street. At any rate, it’s pretty cool and quaint.
Came across this restaurant during San Juan trip. Weather was hot and restaurant had no AC but we decided to have drinks as a short break, so glad we did.
Faurys was our bartender and server. After she made us two delicious drinks , we ordered House Ceviche to try even not hungry. It was refreshingly good.
Since our first experience was remarkable, we went back the next day for dinner.
My fried fish was a bit overcooked when the side fries were undercooked, other than that, food was above average.
Give it a try, at least go for a drink.
Traveled from out of the country to San Juan. This is the best restaurant we visited. They offered exceptional service. It was a group of 10 of us. We were looking for a nice upscale place to dine in for dinner. We all was extremely satisfied.
The atmosphere is very warm and cozy. Highly recommend.
We just experienced this restaurant and I have to say it was wonderful!!! I loved the rustic, almost cave like atmosphere. I can’t say enough about the pleasant service and Wow the food was delicious!!! This was a shrimp mofongo made of yuca instead of the traditional plantain and I loved it. My husband had a grilled pork chop with rice and beans, my sis in law had a skirt steak with sauted onions. Just wow!! We will be going back!!!
Very laid back intimate place. The food was really good but the service was a little lack luster. They brought out everyone's drinks except for a bottled water. And easy items like a salad came out last
Amazing food and great service. The seafood mofongo is out of this world. Fresh red snapper and the ceviche was very refreshing. Definitely a place to visit.
Very beautiful place!! Walked in and was seated immediately, very calm/peaceful with nice music in the background. Highly recommend the seafood soup or pasta, both very good. But the taco could have been better (no picture sorry) aside from the food everything was very fast, in a good way. This is probably a hidden gem of a restaurant. Highly recommended if visiting old San Juan. In summary great restaurant, great food, but a not very good taco. Calm and although all the doors are open cold and no bugs. 4/5
The food was good but what made our experience the best was our waitress. She was very patient in letting me attempt to order in spanish, helped me with some pronunciations, and then gave me tips on the best way to enjoy my mofongo de plátanos Puerto Rican-style. I never would have guessed that she had only been working there for a month. My husband had gotten the churrasco which was very well seasoned and juicy.
The food was good overall. The staff was friendly and the place had a good vibe. The decor was rustic and nice.

Absolutely amazing here all around. The staff were all friendly, the food was amazing, and the drinks were perfect! I dined in a lot of different restaurants in the area and this place had the best food by far! The atmosphere here is the best of the best, open doors to the street, rustic and clean on the inside. I celebrated my birthday here and the staff made it memorable. I will be back El Asador!

Came here for a nice dinner and loved it! I had the lobster risotto, husband had a grilled pork chop. We were seated right away at 7pm, it wasn't too busy, quiet with a lovely atmosphere. If I lived here, this would be my go to spot for special occasions.
Delicious food and drinks! Staff was incredibly kind and patient. The interior is absolutely breathtaking. I go here every time I go to Old San Juan, perfect for date night or a girls night.
Absolutely perfect. The food and drinks were awesome. The service was outstanding. Beautiful seating areas with a masculine feel; cement and wood is very artistic.
We started with the fried calamari as an appetizer. I had the Seafood Mofongo, wife had the grilled mahi mahi with lemon, and of course a delicious coconut flan for dessert. This was our second trip to this restaurant during our visit to Puerto Rico. The food was delicious, the price is quite reasonable for the quality, and the ambience is just awesome. We dig the old world vibe with the decor and the smooth jazz playing in the background. Our waitstaff was excellent as well. If we ever come back to Old San Juan, you can bet we will return to El Asador!!!
