Everything on the menu is fresh and excellent. Great service, homemade pasta, fabulous food and atmosphere! Mr. Gennaro and the staff are all incredible.
Great food & service. I travel a lot and always looking for a comfortable place to eat with good food Will be returning when ever I'm in town.
Nate's on Marsh is the kind of Italian-style restaurant that you expect to find in a much larger city, and easily one of my favorite 3 restaurants in San Luis Obispo. The service is top notch, food quality is very high, and the atmosphere is friendly, yet sophisticated. On each of my visits, I've been impressed with the knowledgeable and friendly servers who are typically familiar with each of the dishes and make thoughtful recommendations. The Italian pasta dishes are prepared perfectly, and the steaks are grilled exactly as ordered. There are several interesting appetizers, including a charred octopus, which is exceptional. Nate's offers an interesting and diverse wine menu with interesting Italian choices, as you might expect. There are a variety of by the glass and bottle choices, reasonably priced (a hefty $35 corkage fee though). The restaurant is set in an old but nicely restored house on Marsh street near downtown San Luis Obispo. In addition to the warm and welcoming indoor areas, there is a lovely outdoor patio, with heat lamps. There is also a 5-seat bar that is open all day, on a first-come, first-served basis. Overall, this is a delightful restaurant that consistently delivers. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality and level of service.
Easy to make reservation online. We ended eating at 745pm since the 5-730pm slots were all taken.
We came on Monday so they had $10 vodka and gin martinis. Also had interesting non-alcoholic drinks as well.
Ordered 2 pasta dishes to share and added the polpette/meatball to our red sauce dish. It was huge.
Liked the lemon ricotta pasta was very light.
Excellent service from the hostess and the busser to our server Megan.
We sat inside on the glassed in porch and it was a bit cold in November so I suggest choose inside dining if you get cold.
Parking is in the back if you can get a spot otherwise metered parking up front on the street.
Very intimate and cozy so you can hear everyone's conversation, but a great place to share a meal.
Excellent food, generous portions, and all set in a lovely historical building. Food came out borderline too quickly for me, but that's a matter of personal preference. Service was very good, but not quite excellent. Forgetting dessert plates, drinks coming a bit slowly, and a bit of general server scarcity are why I took off a star from the service category. Still, very much 5 stars overall.
I had an outstanding dinner with a friend at Nate’s. We were greeted upon arrival and waited less than 5 minutes for the table. Our server, Michael acknowledged us rather quickly to take our drink order. We shared the polpo which was perfectly cooked. We each ordered the filet special and the meat was perfect and cut like butter. Desserts were also fantastic. I can’t wait to return.
Beautifully decorated restaurant with impeccable food, drinks, and service! We tried lunch here for the first time and were super impressed by the cacio e pepe and spicy chicken sandwich. Love your selection of shaken iced teas, too!
Wonderful place in town with tasty dishes! Fresh pasta and great recipes! Service beyond expectations! Had the pasta but can’t wait to return and try the rest of the menu!

If you have never been to Nate’s On Marsh, you are doing yourself a disservice and missing out on the most delightful and delicious restaurant in San Luis Obispo. This was my first time dining at Nate’s On Marsh and I was truly blown away. The most flavorful, intentional dishes I’ve ever tasted. The service was INCREDIBLE. I wish I remembered our servers name but she was just incredible and so knowledgeable about the menu. The setting is intimate and friendly. Nate’s possesses a charm that can’t be duplicated anywhere else in San Luis Obispo. Graduation, Birthday Dinner, Date Night, or just another Dinner… go to Nate’s! Pricing wise, it’s truly on par with other downtown restaurants but larger portions, better taste and great ambiance.
Our visit to Nate's on Marsh was for our 2nd anniversary. This is a very chic and cozy restaurant. We ordered the burrata and bread, which was wonderful and the burrata was very fresh.
I ordered the MARY’S 1/2 CHICKEN with yukon gold mashed potatoes, charred asparagus and citrus vin, chive crème fraiche, and crispy prosciutto. It was a good chicken dish.
My husband ordered the BONE IN PORK CHOP with veal bordelaise, bacon braised mustard greens, polenta, smoked tomato jam. The pork was cooked well and it had great favor. He was a little disappointed with the polenta, as it was somewhat chunky, not smooth.
We also had a couple desserts, the flourless chocolate torte and a scoop of strawberry Gelato. The torte was good, but very rich and you can never go wrong with Gelato.
It was a very busy night, so I think I would like to try it again on a quieter night and I would like to try their pasta dishes. Overall good meal and atmosphere.
Nate’s on Vibes! Bates is energetic and always happy when I get the chance to dine here. The staff is always friendly, the drinks are flowing, and the food is always great. If you are looking for a date, note this fabulous spot, or if you want to have a drink with friends, they have a great bar area 10/10
I had such a lovely evening with my fiancé ! The food was delicious!! Not one complaint about the food or service. Got a little rowdy with some of the locals towards the end. The head manager that evening or even the owner not to sure, wasn’t trying to get them to quite down either. So it did put a damper on our night considering we couldn’t even hear ourselves talk. We ended up leaving shortly after. The food is DELICIOUS but be prepared if you go on a busy weekend you might have to deal with the drunken locals as well.
