The food is good but can very much be elevated to five star with a bit more effort. The service was lacking a bit. The decorations inside were pretty, especially the glass artwork. I had a Net York steak asked for medium and came well done. The meat quality was excellent.
Calamari was over cooked but that I was told that Mac and cheese was very good.
Other had fish and mussels and described them as very good.

Chicken soup was great; Caesar was so-so (underdressed and lacking flavor); fish chowder was very good, fish was baked perfectly (crispy on outside, moist on inside) and simply but effectively seasoned, laid on top of the solid chowder.
Service was excellent

We had fun! The ambiance is incredible for someone outgoing like us, or we got lucky and ended up talking to everyone on our side of the restaurant and toasting to the big night :). Our cocktails were strong, and my Skirt Steak was delicious (I recommend you ask for it). The personnel seemed very busy and at the end was kind enough to offer us free dessert for what they thought was not excellent customer service - they were great! Thank you, Oswald Restaurant in Santa Cruz. You sure know how to make your customers feel special!

Haven't been here in ages, and never for lunch. Absolutely deLISH grilled trout over farro and sautéed spinach. It was 90+ degrees in Santa Cruz this weekend, so why not throw in a strawberry rhubarb infused vodka with lemon + mint for the ultimate refreshing cooldown? Indoor and outdoor dining, excellent friendly and not overbearing service. Will be back!

Great simple menu with a huge drink menu!
I went for dinner with my family on Friday. It was busy but everything was fantastic.
The fresh bread is good. Comes out very warm.
We started with a Mac and cheese and the cold vegetable salad for the table. Both were good but the Mac and cheese was great.
I got the skirt steak which was cooked beautifully. The portion was very good.
My girlfriend got rhe salmon. She liked it as well.
For dessert we tried the almond torte, lemon meringue, and the souffle. Every dessert was amazing. The souffle was definitely the star. But the meringue was right there with it.

Fantastic staff and food. If they ask if you want the aioli, say yes!
Great music too, someone older than the staff has planned the music and they are fans of John Hughes movies. Very enjoyable meal and evening.

Took a long time after being seated by the hostess before sitting and waiting for 40+ mins to find out they forgot about us because we were sat outside.
More people came after us and were seated and dined before we even got our drink order.
2/5 due to lack of speed or recognition of even being there as a dineee.
The food was ok at best not really worth the 25 per plate because it became very bland the more I ate and I ordered the "housemade" beef pasta the pasta was overcooked and the cheese was burnt and undercooked in areas my spouse liked the fried chicken. All in all one of our two waitresses that worked with us was extremely helpful the other one was too but didn't see her much to be able to gage her service.
Probably won't be back

A gem of Santa Cruz. Bizarrely google maps has this on the wrong intersection so be aware it’s closer to the water side of the parking deck than the downtown thoroughfare.
Attentive service, sustainable food, solid cocktails with elegant preparation. Really a treat. Cost is higher than other nearby options but it’s worth it!
