Growing up in Texas, the Mecca of barbecue, it's a hard-pressed moment to find good BBQ joints in the world that really add up to something like Franklin's and other Texas joints. That being said, the pig is well-represented in Santa Fe.
The sausage was outstanding (but be a bit more adventurous with maybe a couple of types of links). The mac & cheese (yes, a plebeian offering in the food world, but deserving here) with chiles in it was truly tasty. The brisket was quite delicious, and the beans and slaw were very tasty, palate/texture-switching sides to complement the meats.
Go all-in, by the way, and request the Volcano sauce. It's worth it.
A visit to Santa Fe needs this to have a meal that's not in the easily-immersibly "New Mexican" vein and offers something both familiar and original.
#1 #3 #6. Six sauces to choose from, and I love 1, 3 & 6.
The service was humble and very top notch. The restaurant was super clean and the bbq was the best I have had for this part of the country. The potato salad was good but in a quirky, non-Southern way.
Sweet tea on tap, which is a must at any true bbq joint. It was better than any bbq I had in K.C. this last summer, so that is saying something.
Good location and I will be back before leaving Santa Fe.
Amazing ... And now they've added the best comfort food to go with BBQ .. And that's macaroni and cheese with some zip.. Best with ribs!! Hooray.
Food was good. Volcano bbq sauce is actually hot! Probably my favorite thing there. The meats were good and sides were average. I like my bbq at home better but it was nice to let someone else do the cooking.
Pulled pork from above... Down south touring (chorkle, snicker) Santa Fe and our first stop is BBQ (really?). Had a choice between two since they're across the street from each other and the Whole hog won the coin toss (I'm going to frame that coin). Had the jumbo pulled pork (as always) sandwich which was wonderful. A whole big heaping of beautiful moist pork with a smokey flavor topped off with a great bark. Dang can't really remember too much about the side, think it was slaw. What a way to start a trip.
Absolutely the BEST BBQ ever! I've never had such delicious brisket. You must stop here to eat. The potato salad & baked beans were an excellent side dish. The staff is friendly and service is fast. You will not be disappointed
We stopped in Sante Fe for a night and found this place. Excellent moist brisket and pulled pork! I had to steal my kids pulled pork nachos because they looked so good. Best BBQ I've eaten in a long time! Staff is very nice as well.
Best baby back ribs I had in a long time. They're decent size with lots of meet around bone, very tender and perfectly smoked, so half rack was more than I could eat and I am big guy. I will miss it here where I come from.
I have been eating here since they first opened back on Cerrillos Rd. Since then, I have been to countless other barbecue joints. There is just something so special about whole hog!
Their pulled pork sandwich is something I crave regularly and I just tried their brisket(after years of just getting pulled pork) and it was fantastic!
My go-to sauces are number 3 and 6 mixed, pro tip.
When I first got there I was a little concerned since there was no costumers dinning in. But it smelled amazing!!!!! And had some pretty good reviews!!! So we went ahead and ordered the ultimate platter for our party of three adults and three children along with a side order of the jalapeno Mac n cheese and cucumber salad. The jalapeno Mac n cheese wasn't too spicy it was mild and I enjoyed it. The cucumber salad was really good too. It looked like it had been soaked in the vinegar awhile but the cucumbers were still crunchy and VERY delicious ribs. I will totally come to Santa Fe just to eat here!!!!🤪😆
**Limited beer selection** I read through the reviews and people were being overly critical over the smallest things. (Losing stars over restaurant decor is silly, and I personally thought the decor was fitting for a BBQ joint.) I really enjoyed the #1/#2 (out of 7 options) Barbecue sauces that I tried. I got the Pulled Chicken with Baked Beans and thought the entree was an excellent portion size and the beans were incredible. (Very sweet, but I liked them.) If you are in the neighborhood and enjoy reasonably priced yummy BBQ I would check this out. (Not the best I have had, but for the taste, price and quick service I’d say very well worth it.)
This is one of the best BBQ spots I’ve been to. The mac’ n cheese, cucumber salad, cole slaw, potato salad, and the baked beans (basically the whole menu) is amazing! We are visiting on vacation and bought some sides to go to snack on later because they are that good! I wish I could bring this BBQ with me back home to Indiana! Thanks for the great meal!
Staff is super fast and pleasant! Good for family take out or a casual sit and enjoy. Bbq and sauces are the best in town! I was able to feed 12 people easily for about $70.00; 3lbs of meat and a large side of baked beans. Everyone was happy and satisfied.
