Ha, I'm actually reviewing about the time I came here a year ago. I bought my birthday cake from here, and when we asked to try a piece, we were offered spoonful of samples, for free, right from a small piece of cake on display. It was kind of shocking and we decided to buy that cake after trying it out. And the PIC even let us take the piece of cake we taste test from.

Lovely pastries, good service.
I recommend the guava tacos and the powdered tea cookies. So rich and sweet and the textures are a wonderful experience.
TIP: Parking behind store and also metered parking.
Try the Aguascalientes frescos for something refreshing to go with your treats.

Wow! The pastries are authentic and delicious! If you’re looking for a quant but cozy coffee shop in Santa Monica, THIS IS IT!
Morning beverages with a Mexican twist, along with great pastries to fit the part.
The Vegan pan dulce was outstanding.
I ordered a mollete and the beans were seasoned just right, the cheese added that special zing it was missing!
The cake display looked so good I had to take more things home.
The staff was delightful but I would recommend adding a tip option for card transactions, they do an amazing job and I would have loved to reward them a little.

I love their almost croissant like cinnamon rolls. Coffee is good and people are friendly. Nice way to start a great day.

Wonderful place. Great coffee and eats.
They need to clean up the interior. All the furniture needs new coats of varnish and seal. A bit dirty inside and the music way too loud for the morning. Please clean up the furniture and turn down the music.
Great food and coffee and service.

Excellent croissants and a small but great drink menu! Their pastries and quiche are delicious and the atmosphere is quite tranquil even though they're on a busy street! Outdoor seating and a kind staff seal the deal.

Awesome selection of traditional pastries and drinks. The spiced coffee and cocoa are very well balanced, not syrupy sweet like the chain stores. And PLEASE ask if they have flan, then get two.

This place made me feel like I was in actual mexico. Not just the flavor of the drinks and the type of snacks sold, but it was also excruciatingly hot in there

the workers were very kind & the coffee was phenomenal!

Mexican bakery Cafe with friendly staff, nice decor, and basic ingredients. Feels overpriced for the style of pastries.

I come often to this place but the only problem they will lock doors at 7:30pm. They should change their closing time to this time instead of 8pm the way noted online.

They have really good cakes. I have only ordered through ubereats, and wish to go there soon, but their cakes taste different, and look very beautiful. I was looking for a french bakery when I came across them, and so glad I made this. Also on my second order there was a problem with my online order, i called them, and they were super kind and helpful. I don't know about other branches, but this branch is certainly lucky to have these good people working there

This is a nice and small family-owned institution. It serves traditional Mexican food which I found to be fresh and unfamiliar to me. Coffee and breakfast are also served.
They're are also plenty of pastries, mostly cases, for takeaway.

The DDLM themed cupcakes at the HP location is a baked goods fail. Terrible snack. The pan de muerto is good. Very moist. The coffee sleeve art for the holiday is on point!

I had the Cristobal coffee made with Abuelita chocolate and coffee and half and half. So decadent & delicious. The aroma when you enter the bakery in Pico Rivera is just like heaven. I also had. Soy chorizo quiche that was so good. I bought an assortment of cookies / galletas to take to the office and everyone was coming to my desk for some decadent goodies. The staff was very happy & friendly even at 6am in the morning.

Best place ever! The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and hospitable! He let us sample both of their flans! He is definitely an asset to this bakery!!! The Oaxaca hot chocolate was to die for!

Idk understand why cashier wanted argue with me over asking for a small coffee in a medium cup. I just wanted exra room for cream. No need to argue and fight over .30cents, especially since i was a regular customer. Well off to Starbucks. ☕

great coffee and really friendly staff! love the place

I came here after my cousin insisted I check it out. I had the cafe taxco and chorizo quiche and my mom ordered the cafe de olla and a croissant with cajeta. My mom was surprised to see that the cajeta tasted just like the one from Mexico and the coffee was delicious. The quiche was tasty, loved the fusion of French-style quiche with Mexican chorizo. The cafe taxco was exactly what I expected. I hate when coffee shops copy Starbucks's menu and La Monarca didn't disappoint. The service was warm and friendly and the restaurant was clean. If you are bored of Starbucks and Starbucks wannabes and want to experience something new this is it.

Took my daughter here Easter morning...we had pasties, chai tea and hot cocoa. I bought a strawberry shortcake for the family later on. Everything was delicioso!

Gavin Glynn
The quiches are que sabor! It's an upscaled Mexican panderia...so worth it!

I was just at La Monarca on Mission Street in Pasadena and purchased pan dulce, and was also going to have lunch there, but since they didn't have a very kid friendly menu I had to go next door to get a grilled cheese sandwich for my 1 year old. I came back to LA Monarca to order lunch for three of us, but they told me I couldn't eat there because I was bringing in a grilled cheese sandwich from next door. I told the clerk that I had to get a grill cheese since they don't have a kid friendly menu and she said well I'm sorry, but we can't allow food from outside and we can't let you eat here. So, I ended up leaving without having lunch there-- very disappointing! It's definitely a thumbs down it is not a kid friendly place and I can't believe they lost a sale and a new customer just because of a grilled cheese sandwich!
