Review Crust Artisan Bakery - Santa Rosa Beach

Jennie Conlon
I am stuffed! The food was so good I had to eat every bite. A local spot for a wonderful BYOB dinner. The owner and her team provide you with an exceptional experience. They have limited indoor and outdoor seating. I will return!

Oh my goodness, this was one of the greatest dining experiences I’ve had! Lord knows I’ve a lot of them. From the appetizer to the dessert everything was perfection. We enjoyed it so much we return the next night. Kim was amazing, entertaining too.. We most definitely will come back on our next visit.

🤯 the absolute best restaurant in all of Destin, Seaside, and Santa Rosa Beach - Crust Artisan Bakery is absolutely mind blowing. Ran by an incredibly beautiful couple with heritage from Tuscany, you can expect the most authentic Italian dishes and mouth-watering flavors on 30A. If you thought it couldn’t get any better, Crust is a BYOB establishment, so don’t forget to bring your favorite bottle of wine! Thank you Kim!!

One of the best meals I've had. Fresh seafood and Italian cuisine is a tremendous combination and the Crust does it right with personal touch. The hostess recites the menu which is different every day and always fresh.

The most excellent food I have had in a number of years. My table opted to order several appetizers and entrees and share them. It's bring your own wine and plan accordingly because dinner is the event. So nice to find an unrushed meal. Each course was more than worth the wait.

Excellent experience! Great service. Hard to get reservations. Small dining space. Sit in the kitchen if you can. Can’t wait to come back…oh and you can bring your own wine!

What a gem! Recommended by a friend -- we had a fantastic dinner. BYOB (so we splurged and bought a bottle for what we'd normally pay at a restaurant) -- we had the veil chop (juicy, tender, delicious) and chicken parmigiana with spaghetti (very large portion, very good). Service was attentive, food was amazing, vibe was casual fun. We've already sent several friends -- and look forward to coming back next time we're in town.

Nice little mom and pop shop! It’s a husband and wife team that run the show, the wife is the waitress and the husband is the cook. The Italian food was great. They only had a verbal menu in which various appetizers and entrees were named off. I got the chicken parmigiana and it was really tasty and fresh. My partner got the rib eye steak and the crab salad to start. They give you a little bread basket with dip to start off the meal. They have a nice little outdoor area too!

Absolutely Amazing Experience throughout the whole dinner. . No menu but the owner Kim comes to your table and verbally tells you the menu such a personalized experience. The food options are incredible and so hard to choose from Italian, Seafood and Steak ..makes you want to keep coming back for more. BYOB , No problem we got to bring the wine we prefer , we are locals here and will definitely be back again 😊

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CRUST!! I was there with my boyfriend and friends a couple of weeks ago, it was my first time in, not my last… IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! I wish I could give you all the stars in the world!! Y’all are SUPERSTARS THERE!! Thank you so much for an amazing meal and experience!!! It was truly OUTSTANDING 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

It is warm, small, but the food is rustic, authentic, made fresh and the pizza is delicious! The warmth comes from the heat of the pizza oven firing Italian pies in a few short minutes. If looking for a Domino's style pizza, this is not the place. Mark the owner, uses his mother and grandmother's Italian recipes, and the meatballs are a favorite. The bread is made fresh for the sandwiches, and it doesn't get any better. Dining is optional outside. Make reservations for dinner, and show up for lunch at noon.

The Bibisi Family gives 5 thumbs up!. We had the pleasure of eating at this great bistro type fusion restaurant. We had the lamb pops and crab cake for starters. All we can say is Devine!! We have dined just about everywhere on the coast and this trip we ate at many restaurants. Our daughter lived in Santa Rosa and Mirar for 12 years. By far the food quality was exceptional. The grouper was the best we've had in a very long time. My husband had the gnocchi- so different and the sauce was delicious- my husband did not say a word while he experienced this dish(-that is the best compliment! (Did Imention we are Italuan?) The pzza delicious. Not to mention the baked goods. We've all had croissants- the almond ones are outstanding. We've all had cronuts-but Crust has Cruffins- filled with fruit. We live in Atlanta and my son travels the country and has traveled to many countries. So he knows good food. I think we enjoyed the staff almost as much as the food. This is casual (no stress) dining. One of the waiters who is a prep guy too, has an interesting tattoo. You must see it to appreciate it. The chef came out and talked to us all the while they were preparing to go orders. What an interesting and eclectic bunch of guys. We live in Atlanta and have eaten just about every high end, low end restaurants , bistro, pub and most of the Mom & Pop restaurants. The Crust offers different, delicious meals at a reasonable price. If you want cloth tablecloths and a haughty atmosphere, don't come here. If vacationing, this is the kind of dining we love... A disappointing experience. Crust is a charming little restaurant that has a top-notch kitchen. However, our latest visit provided a terrible dining experience. In a much too intimate space, they had booked an unruly twelve-top celebrating a birthday. The noise level was unbearable for other diners and the management was feeble when asked to intervene. I understand that it was an uncomfortable situation, however in failing to do anything to reign in the offending party, the restaurant left the other diners suffering through their meals, unable to carry on any conversations above the din. I recommend to anyone considering Crust that they check to see if the restaurant has booked any large parties. If they have, go another night.

When are you open??. I would love to try and review this place..but my husband and I tried going 3 different times now, all at about 2pm in the afternoon during the week and there was a "closed" sign on the door and it looked like the lights were off..but the door was ajar. We were put off and will not try again, since it's a drive for us and we don't get that many days off together. :(

Family style and you will not regret it! Absolutely fantastic food. It's a little eclectic but who wants corporate food anyway? This is a find!

Very strange service, the guy at the counter who ended up as our server seemed really grumpy and said less than 10 words to us the entire service. The bread was good and pizza was alright but the service was bewildering and just made it an experience not worth re-living

Fabulous weekly stop. Crazy Friday Night crowds make this little "local" bistro a weekly stop for us now!!! You can name your fancy Steak Houses, but the monster Bone-In Rib Eye is a real treat.

My new favorite restaurant. Crust Artisan Bakery is my new favorite restaurant. I have been there four times over the last month, and each time seemed to top the prior visit, Killer seafood, lamb, pork. Have not even tried the pizza yet, but have had "order envy" when I see it served to nearby tables. Mark and the kitchen staff are creative, and everything delivered to the table looks great, tastes better, and is hot and fresh. As the name implies, this is a working bakery and the bread alone served with the meal is worthy of a trip. First time I was exposed to calamari steak, but it won't be the last. The shrimp and arugula crostini is a meal in itself. Being able to bring your own wine is nice as well. . When friends from out of town visit, this is our "go to" place.

What an experience. This place is not a Restaurant, it's an experience!!! Lot's of Locals all visiting and sharing tastes of food. Yes, it took a while, and the Staff were running like crazy, but the food and the experience was worth it. The Calamari Steak was divine, and the Pasta for my Wife's dish was made right before our eyes. No interior walls, so you can see it all. We'll be regulars now, too.

Sad but true. This establishment was great when it first opened. However, as a local, I have seen this place decline in service and quality. On two occasions, I have been completely ignored when waiting to place an order. The restaurant staff appear frazzled and disorganized. They mostly cater to their repeat crowd of wine connoisseurs who bring their own wine and their large dinner orders. If the staff do not recognize you as someone who will make a large order, you are likely to be ignored or subject to VERY SLOW SERVICE. Beyond that, the food just doesn't make up for poor service and big prices. Sadly, you're best going elsewhere.

HORRIBLE RUDE PLACE. My daughter and her family live in Santa Rosa Beach. I was visiting from Naples, Florida.
We went to CRUST for dinner on the 23rd of January. We arrived about 5:30. At least 5 empty tables. After being completely ignored , someone from the kitchen. Came out and said they were full. Just RUDE. I was totally embarrassed.
What a shame . I'm sure my daughter, who frequently picks up take out there
Will NEVER go again. With a family of 5 she spends a lot.

Got in late.... The food was great but it came out a little slow.

In addition, our waiter was clearly on something. It seemed as if he had been hitting the sauce in the back, and I am not talking about the marinara. No print menus available, just the slurrings of a drunken waiter in a polo. A lot of requests were never dealt with due to the fact our waiter was drunk.

Overall...good food, weird service, weird vibe.....not in a good way. I will not be making a trip back.

Made reservations for 6:30 on Wednesday night and sat inside. It was at least 85-90 degrees inside and we were told that was normal due to the pizza oven. We placed our order immediately and waited 40 minutes for our cheese pizza and waited a total of an hour for our entrees. We asked when the pizza came if she (the owner/waitress) knew how much longer- as we had two kids under 8 with us and I was told no. The gnocchi was delicious but the cioppino amd mussels lacked flavor and seafood was over cooked. Pizza was fair- needed parm and salt and we were never offered parm. We had to ask for additional water during meal and no bread came w mussels or cioppino. Our kids hung in there and other than asking for a time estimate and an itemized bill (after we paid) as we were walking out the owner told the next people who walked in that it would be a moment because "they had some high maintenance customers to handle." We wouldn't go back due to the okay food quality, the sweating thru dinner, and the crazy wait for our food but the complete rudeness led to writing this review.

Run Away...don't even think about it!. Horrible experience. Tasteless food, rude, slow service, and extremely hot inside restaurant! Don't even think about it!

Run don't walk. Fabulous. Period. Blown away. My caprese with grilled summer veggies was heaven felt like I was in Italy and the pizza was amazing.

In a word - Superb!!

I didn't quite know what to expect except that I planned on having a dessert. I ordered the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese appetizer. The tomato tasted as though it came from a home garden. My chicken piccata entree was excellent. We were given a generous basket of fresh, crusty bread. The staff was friendly. Definitely will return for another meal. I was too full for dessert

Exceptional. From the moment you arrive at Crust Artisan Bakery you are relaxed. The veranda outside is strung with white lights & is perfect for conversation & a glass of wine. From Crust’s signature bread to their signature brick oven pizzas, each entrée is delicious! Don’t stop with the entrée because Crust also features amazing desserts! The staff is friendly & upbeat... Excellent experience from beginning to end!

Very good pizza. If you're in the area stop by. You won't regret it. The Italian sausage pizza is stellar

As you all know great pizza is limited in Santa Rosa Beach. There are a handful of good Pizza restaurants in Santa Rosa Beach, my new favorite is by far, "The Crust" on Hwy 98. First of all, it's conveniently located if you live ANYWHERE in Santa Rosa Beach. Secondly, all the food is INCREDIBLE, I mostly go for the "gourmet" pizzas but they really mix it up with their daily specials! The other thing I LOVE, is this BYOB, WoW, my wine collection is from around the world and many years years in the making, where else can you BYOB/W to your favorite local restaurant.....Order a gourmet pizza and bring your own Vino....how does it get better than that??!! The pretty blonde waitress (she's the owner) shhhhh...maybe she's keeping that a secret (oops).....go try "The Crust" you won't be disappointed, I promise!!!! http://www.crustbakers.com/

Great pizza and baked goods. I stopped here on my way from Pensacola to Panama City based on JEL's review of their pizza (which resulted in him ousting from the top of his list my personal favorite in Pensacola).

This place is wonderful (which makes me worry for their longevity in NW FL). My hope is that enough people who know quality will try this place and keep it thriving. I have family in Panama City and I intend to stop at Crust every time I make the trek over from Pensacola, though it is worth a special trip. I had the sausage pizza, which was perfect. This is not NY-style. I haven't had a pizza like this since I was in Sorrento, Italy. From crust to topping, this pizza was flawless. I would liked to have seen a pizza featuring anchovy, but I did not see one this day. I also purchased some of their biscotti, which are slightly moist, nutty, and delicious. Table water was infused with orange, which was a nice touch. The woman at the counter made me feel very welcome.

Our first visit but not the last. Outstanding!

GREAT FOOD!!!. Great food, Great prices, and they are a locally owned restaurant! Support those that support our community! Keep it LOCAL, not NATIONAL!!!

WONDERFUL. Four of us went here for lunch, and we loved everything we tasted. Freshness and quality are definitely a big part of this establishment. It's the real thing. Wonderful breads, pizzas, sandwiches, and more. We will look forward to dinner on the patio there soon, and trying their specials.

Amazing!. FANTASTIC PIZZA, fabulous baked goods, the desserts are incredible (all homemade).

It is BYOB, and the owners are wonderful. This is a serious go to for locals and tourists alike. Laid back atmosphere with absolutely delicious brick oven pizza. You will not be disappointed!

Mangia! Mangia! Mangia!!. We've been coming to Destin for nearly 20 years & have eaten in some great restaurants all over the country and by far, Crust is arguably one of the best I've been to. Mark truly is an artist In the kitchen. The flavors are amazing, the quality is superb and the service is always friendly. Everything on the menu is great. You can't go wrong here!! They make their own breads & pizza dough and the quality definitely shows.

A must stop for anyone.

Best Pizza of my Life! FIVE STARS. Wow - I have to say I didnot expect to have the best pizza of my life in Destin, Florida but here i am writing a review. I own several homes there and quite honestly have never found any pizza in the area like this! It has a very thin crust and is crispy and I felt like I was back in New York. This is not surprising after meeting the owners who could not be nicer people. We sat outside on the back deck and they brought us some fresh baked bread that made my mouth water. They also make these amazing crossiants everyday that sell out! Anyway, I cant wait to go back and they have more than pizza and my husband was raving about his dish which was some itialian special.

I LOVE crust. Wonderful menu with delicious food. Truly original cuisine and warm friendly atmosphere. Wood fired pizzas are the BEST. Artisan breads and pastries are spectacular. YUMM!!!

Great Food Greate Service Great Price. I really enjoyed the meal, however the prompt kind and friendly service topped it off. Well, not quite as sweet as the dessert, but they all went hand in hand..

The pizza was not even edible. It looked authentic and yummy on top but the bottom was completely charred. I was already home when I opened the box and immediately called the manager. At first they were in a bit of denial that their pizza could be burnt but eventually he admitted the oven was too hot. He offered to mail me a gift cert to make up for it (instead of simply refunding my money like he should have) but now, it's one month later and still gift card. I didn't want to give them a bad review but I have waited long enough for them to make it right. I'm still out $25 for a pizza that was thrown away.
A colleague had a similar experience with burned pizza from this place. If you are getting takeout, check the bottom before you leave the store. You have been warned.

Delightful food! 5 stars. What an awesome first night of vacation dining! This quaint but extraordinary restaurant has made the top of the charts ! We ordered pizza and it was truly the best flavor and texture. Authentic! We definitely will return again during this week trip. The management and service was over the top in hospitality! These people bake some incredible bread, the croissants are crusty outside tender inside, a flashback from Paris! Very good choice.

Don't Go Here. Could not wait to try Crust after reading the review in the Daily News. Called for a large pizza with spicy salami, mushrooms, & black olives; well we got the above and more ----olives still had pieces of pits in them, pizza crust was cold and burned on the bottom, I think they forgot the cheese and the service was terrible. Service may have been a result of the fact the air-conditioning was not running. (July 6) Pizza was $20 and we are feeding it to the crabs.

Was really hoping this would be something those locals of us would love but I'm sticking with Fat Daddy's.
Jake
Pizza was incredible!. I stopped in last week while on vacation to grab a small pizza and what a great decision! These folks make some great food! The facility gets pretty warm with the pizza oven though, I'd get it to go untill they get that worked out. 2 thumbs up!

An incredible place, very friendly, and with solidly creative italian cuisine. Just bring a bottle of your favorite wine, chill for a couple of hours and enjoy one of the best new treasures of santa rosa!
Elizabeth Powers
I ate my first pizza at crust last week with my dad and the experience is entirely unique to this area. Crust is not a typical destin restaurant the food is truly an art form and will far surpass any other pizzeria or bakery in the area. Eat more crust!!

MM Good. OMG..... knew I wanted to visit this new eating establishment when I read the article in the Walton Sun. They did not disappoint. Think they've been open now about a month and have been there at least once a week. Even stop for breakfast on the go. It is WONDERFUL. Haven't tried everything yet but plan on going thru the menu before the season is over. You wouldn't notice it by driving by but it's worth finding. And the people are soooo nice.

Fantastic!. My husband and I ate here while we were on vacation, and we will be back next year!! Delicious, REAL food and fantastic, friendly service!!

Finally! Authentic Italian food in this town! This little place will not a hidden gem for much longer. The word is out! Try out their pre-fix on the weekends. Pizza is fabulous too! The owners are working at all hours with all their heart and soul. You can taste the LOVE in this food for sure! Best wishes to Kim, Mark, and crew.

So happy to finally have a REAL pizza place in the area. The food is excellent, the restaurant is full of character and the owners are very friendly!

Amazing Pizza & Bread!. Super-cute and rustic little place that makes amazing pizza and bread. We had the Salsiccia Pizza and it was perfect! The crust is thin and very light and the edges are crispy. The sauce is really good and light as well. The Itallian sausage was very lean and was very flavorful. This has to be the best pizza we've ever had. You can really taste the love that goes into the food.

The atmosphere is very casual and cozy and it makes you forget you're in North Florida. This is the ONLY place we'll be ordering pizza.
Steve P.
Bravissimo!. Having moved to Northwest Florida from San Francisco 12 years ago I never thought I would see good bread or pizza here in this part of the country. I am glad to say that Crust Artisan Bakery is here to save the day. Their pizza is fired in a wood burning oven at 700 degrees and is amazing. You'll have to go to Naples to get it this good. Simple fresh ingredients don't subtract from the sauce or crust . I chose a Pizza with Prosciutto and Arugula that was perfectly cooked and hit with a light drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil. We also ordered a beet salad with Blood Oranges and Goat cheese that was amazing. I also highly recomend the Arugula Salad with Walnuts as a nice appetizer. Portions are good sized so you can split salads and still have plenty. The owners Mark and Kim Fressell make you feel like you've stepped into their home for dinner. Bringing us fresh Manicotti and Meatballs in a tasty red sauce (cooked in the wood oven) I will NOT order pizza anywhere else except from them. It's BYOB and they have a wonderful assortment of Pellegrino and other flavored waters and soda from Italy. It get's even better. Remember this is a bakery as well. We stocked up on the most amazing orange buns and croissants for the morning and bought a loaf of Kalamata Olive bread all while having a post meal pot of French pressed coffee and fresh Riccota Cheese cake. Crust is located just East of Hiway 30 A right on Hiway 98 so it's an easy place to get to and has ample parking. If you live here come by. If you're visiting come by. You won't regret it and you'll save yourselves thousands of $$$ on airfare for not having to go to Italy. They have outdoor seating so pets are welcome....

Incredible and Original. This place is awesome, there are no, and I mean no, real bread makers in this area. If makers is a correct word I am not sure but going to a grocery store where they make bread in bulk is never any fun, its not personal and its commercially produced. This is the old world way of making a quality bread and the name Crust says it all. A sandwich, a pizza and a pastry are perfected by their dough. Crust has perfected their dough in every single way. I had a few slices of baguette with some olive oil, roasted red peppers and a few slices of dried salami and it was heaven. Perfect crust, lots of air pockets, well risen bread soft on the inside, but the crust was definitely the difference maker. You just cannot find bread like this unless you travel a few thousand miles. Its baked in a real wood oven, this oven is a monster and the hardwoods are fired in the morning and begin to heat up while the dough is hand made in small batches and left to rise naturally. I had the white pizza that melted in my mouth, New York style, perfect in every way, worth the drive from Pensacola, I wanted to stock up on the bread enough to last me a week until my return. Crust is unique and one of a kind and no one dare duplicate their brand because their bread is special and so unique

Made My Day!. Thinking that a place will have promise just because the website looks great may seem a bit shortsighted, but trusting instinct I had a feeling that I would find something tasty and new here today.

Crust just happened fit into a road trip to the beach on one of the most perfect weather days of the year. The space was filled with sunlight and just plain disarming. The crusty loaves and baguettes were displayed in front of the three dining tables and gave rise to temptation and optimism about our first savory food of the day. Irregular crusty artisan loaves are just not seen around these parts, and I was enthralled.

Just because the space was so well planned doesn't mean that I would really love the pizza. The actual menu combinations were all tried and true combinations of truly Italian ingredients that actually work, no pandering to the crowd of extreme tastes.. It was the first quatro formaggio that had a balance of great cheese. I had a couple of adequate likes in South Walton, but this is the new favorite for the area.

We were also served a sampling of their house made meatballs as well. They were amazingly tender and flavorful, and topped with a dollop of creamy ricotta(yes they have an in house cheese maker) and fopped with fresh basil. These alone are worth a trip back. I intended on taking a photo of them, but must have been so excited to eat them that I forgot.

They also have a CIA educated pastry maker doing their morning breads for Saturdays, and will eventually be open for breakfast on most weekdays.
Ryan
...ordered the Fungi (mushroom) pizza. Mushrooms, tomatoes, truffle oil… It was a little cold by the time we got to eat it, but it hit the spot....
JEL
The real pleasure of this pizza is the simple flavors in the toppings that really star at first bite. The usually thin edges of the crust take on an enjoyable crispness ensuring that the bones will disappear from the plate. The overall texture is very evocative of the square Roman bakery pizzas that were the highlight of last year's visit to Italy. This style is quite unique in our little corner of the world.
