A++ Experience. Anyone who gave this restaurant a bad rating doesn't know what good sushi is. Period. In all my experiences of dining in Japanese restaurants, Shogun has to be on the top of my list. Everything about Shogun is fantastic.
The restaurant setting is an authentic Japanese setting. Wooden walls and frames in the restaurant, Rice-papered windows, and serene Japanese music playing in the background. That is truly Japanese.
The food is phenomenal. Their appetizers are excellent, their sushi is fresh, and the entrees are delicious. Shogun gives generous portions. On their nigiri, the chefs give the perfect portion of fish and rice. And the rolls are magnificent. They are large and fair in price. But most importantly, their are DELICIOUS! They present their rolls very well and everything about it is unbelievable!
I love Shogun! Everything about them is incredible; service, selection, food, and setting. Definitely a restaurant I will continue to dine.
I've enjoyed the food at Shogun since they opened. It is my favorite japanese restaurant in the Bay area. Sushi is excellent.
I enjoyed the nigiri and specialty rolls.. not too much rice to fish ratio. It all tasted very fresh, and the place has a very authentic decor and vibe. It was reasonably pleasant in there despite the hot weather, but did get a little warm inside. Order came out pretty fast and price was reasonable. I would go again.
Great service and food. We came in a little late, and they were more than willing to feed us a ton of food!
Ordered online for pick up and the gentleman, whom I can only assume is the owner, was prompt and professional. He took my payment and he told me he would find me outside and bring me my order when it was complete. Not very long after he brought my order. Mind you, in the midst of this exceptional service was probably as busy as it gets at this location.
Now for the food.
The food was still hot (and cool for the rolls) even after getting home. Everything was packaged incredibly. To the point that if anything drips or spills it was 100% your fault and not theirs.
Alright, I have had many spicy tuna rolls and this is up there on my list of “Best Spicy Tuna Rolls”. I can not wait to eat the menu over as I continue to dine here.
TLDR: It’s damn good and you should go here if you like American style sushi.
Started going to Shogun when it opened in Montgomery Village. Favorite place for my son, Scott and myself to go. Left Santa Rosa and just went there on a visit after 20 plus years and it didn't let my son and I down. It was fantastic and tasted just the same - great! The best miso soup ever and I live in Vegas ! Thank you for not letting us down!
Ive been coming to this place for years. Sushi is delicious and fresh. My kid loves the bento boxes. Staff is always accomodating & friendly.
1 week later - Still my favorite place in Santa Rosa. Lemon Chicken Bento Box was 🔥. Rolls ❤️. Toro belly ❤️🔥💯
Our normal sushi place was closed so we tried Shogun. It was pretty good. Presentation was a bit of a mess. Rolls were good, but a couple tasted like they maybe had mayonnaise? That wasn't bad per se, but it was kind of strange. Shogun would be fine if our usual place is unavailable for some reason.
Excellent food and very nice atmosphere. I will definitely be back.
Amazing quality of fish and great service!
We love this resuturaunt because of the quality and service. Exceptional in all categories
Amazing quality and very reasonable pricing! The shogun scallop dish is definitely worth ordering. I have been coming here for years and am always impressed.
I eat here a few times a year. The food is good and the service is excellent. The atmosphere is warm and friendly like a neighborhood place instead of upscale and artsy which I tire of at sushi places.
I always get a chirashi sushi which is always a bit different but generous and very good. I don't even know if it's on the menu; I just ask for it. The people I go with tend to get various salads and rolls which I've tried which are well made and presented.
Great place.
Got take out and portions were small, sashimi was 3/5 quality. Rolls were good, but not worth the price. We've eaten here a few times before and portions seem to be shrinking.
One of my top two favorite restaurants.
Traditional Japanese dinner house and Sushi bar. The food is always high quality and prepared to perfection. Best miso soup anywhere! Meals come with soup, salad, rice, entree and delicious veggie sides. Meat is trimmed thoroughly and we'll.
Very generous portions and reasonably priced.
Restaurant is always well kept and very clean. The service is excellent, from the greeting at the door to the hot hand towels at the table, thru check out.
I've tried almost everything on the menu over the years and I've never been disappointed once.

Wow we were totally impressed with this experience. Very authentic and warm feeling with the inside decor. Im not sure if this is a family run restaurant, but all the staff seemed all in sync and very Japanese lol. The food was GREAT, very timely. The staff was beyond attentive, probably the best service we have gotten in a few years. We will indeed return if we are ever in the area again - and in the mood for Japanese food.
Well, this year my coworkers and I went for a new twist on the day, sushi! You heard right, yes sushi. My other single coworker( as am I) turned me on to the "cherry blossom" hand roll. It contains snow crab, avocado, sashimi, and rice rolled into one. 8 pieces in all! Oh snap, it's great with a touch of ginger smothered on top and dunked in soy sauce both sides. A mouthwatering plethora of intense flavors enticing all aspects of the human senses. A must stop if you are in the mood for some culinary excitement anytime! Enjoy!
The atmosphere is great, and the sushi was amazing. The staff were attentive but not pushy. The only complaint I have is that the edamame was a little overcooked, but I think that was a fluke based on how good the sushi was. Eat here!
