Reviews Hob Nob Drive In Restaurant

Like the old days. We stopped in for lunch. I went all out getting a Hob Nob (double cheeseburger), subbed for onion rings, and a chocolate shake. It was all good. The burger was a little greasy, the onion rings more so, the chocolate shake past delicious. No 50’s music, just traffic noise, but still a nice experience. Service was friendly.

Today was an absolutely beautiful day, very sunny and a little breezy. Breezy means you need to pay a little attention to things like napkins that can blow around. The Hob Nob is a Sarasota icon, sitting at the corner of Washington Blvd (US301) and 17th St. It had a fairly recent renovation but did not lose any of its charm. All seating is outdoors but they do have plastic protection in case of weather. You can also drive up to a few spots in the front and receive car service. An old style drive-in, no talking through speakers or getting food through windows.

I did not see anyone smoking but there were ashtrays on the tables, in case that is important for you to know.

Karenbike. I was hungry for a burger and fries and this hit the spot. It wasn't close to us bu worth the drive. We sat at the counter and I had a orange creamsickle Edy's milkshake, cheeseburger and fries. The sauce on the hamburger was really good- a little like the Big Mac sauce. Since this is outdoor eating, the biggest problem were bees. I'd go back anytime.

Ultimate Indulgence. It doesn't matter what diet you're on, Hob Nob will bring it to its knees. Every item on the menu is a flashback to the heyday of drive-up food stands. I am not convinced that they actually HAVE a kitchen. I think they have a time portal back there and they simply ZWOOP the food and shakes from some heavenly, idealized version of 1956. The burgers are luscious and perfectly (if VERY traditionally) topped. The fries are crinkle-cut directly out of the word delicious and the onion rings should be illegal. The shakes are so thick and rich that the straw is really a waste. If you come here for the service, that's okay - the food will make you forget it on your first bite anyway. It's a DRIVE-UP people. You are here to be transformed into your greaser or poodle-skirted alter ego through food. Go with it.

Great Diner Food!. This "joint" is a Sarasota institution! If you haven't been there yet, you must. The decor probably haven't changed much since it was first built (you can tell that by the articles posted on the walls), but the food and service is perfect. They have the 50's diner style menu complete with colas, shakes and even BEER! I always get their 'Special' sandwich which is listed on the chalkboard behind the bar. Their grouper sandwich is good, burgers of course are phenomenal.....(beware they are H-U-G-E) and they have the Bacon-Wrapped Dog that are just to die for! I stop by every once in awhile and it's a place you must bring friends if they are visiting Sarasota. They won't be disappointed!

Looked for a nice place to eat with the kids and let me tell you this place did not dissapoint! Fast service good food not super greasy not soggy. I ordered bacon cheeseburger and fry basket. Standard diner fashion dressed with lettuce tomato onion pickle mayo and mustard. The veggies were crisp and fresh (no I don’t eat raw onion) the tomato was juicy and sweet the burger was cooked perfectly cooked with enough gristle from the grill to give a wonderful char. But without all the nasty grease! The French fries were cooked as anyone would expect from a diner. Crisp outside with a hot fluffy inside. Service was awesome and fast! The open wall outdoor drive up diner concept really works and I hope more people stop in for such an awesome experience! The only thing I would look into if I was the owner would be additional fans to help circulate the heat but overall great spot!

It’s a roadside drive-in, so how good can I be? How about excellent! I came here for breakfast, and the food is amazing! Great portion for the price. And I definitely worth dropping in if you are hungry and want a neat experience.

Discovered/visited this little gem on a trip to the tile store. Its holding on to its own cool vibe in spite of all the traffic noise and urban growth around it. The bacon cheeseburger was awesome, a 1/4 pound, on a nice bun, with the lettuce, tomato and onion slices all fresh. The shakes and sundaes looked delicious as did the Patty Melt and Chili Dogs. Lastly, the service was great, with several servers checking on us, all very pleasant. I will definitely visit again soon!

This place fits my vibe. I always love 50s-60s stylized restaurants, as they always bring a cool vibe. The food was really good as well, the burgers were good and the fries were as well. I thought it would be to hot to eat outside, but they have fans and the wind helped as well. Overall, a really cool place, and I recommend it to anyone

Love the Hob Nob.. local staple for many years. Burgers and shakes are always very good. Staff is always friendly. Local car clubs meet there usually on Saturdays. This visit it was the Camaro Club.. love looking at the cars and having a burger and beer.. shake to go. :)

This place is precious! If you like the old school neighborhood small diner experience, then you need to stop here. Hob Nob is a small open air, no frills diner right out of the 50s/early 60s. Community style seating at large metal clad picnic tables fosters socializing and conversation. We were immediately acknowledged with a smile and told to sit anywhere. An older gentleman indicated there was plenty of room at his table (not that the place was crowded) so we joined him. He proceeded to entertain us with interesting stories and slightly naughty jokes. He was a hoot. Server took our orders promptly and as this was our first time answered our questions about the menu gladly. Our food came out rather quickly. Wife had the classic patty melt. I opted for the "Hob Nob" which was a juicy, grilled, double patty cheeseburger with all the fixins! I also had the onion rings, which if you know me, you know i LOVE onion rings. These were very tasty and not greasy one bit! Nice crunch to them. Hob Nob is definitely a great spot for a casual lunch. Good prices, great food, great service! Ps - it does sit on the intersection, so traffic noise can get a bit loud, so maybe not the best spot for a meeting :)

Great service and food. My order looks 2as takeout. There is no indoor dining, just a covered outside dining area! Burger was tasty, just too many onions, which are easily removed. Onion rings were lightly battered and not greasy.

It is always a good experience. The food is good and the service is friendly. It has been in Sarasota forever. It is family owned and has an oldies feel. Been there many times. It is outdoors so no AC but had fans. See the photograph.

1st time visiting. The food was ok, edible. Western omlett was overcooked. The pancakes were spongy. The grits were flavorless. The waitress was exceptional. She made the experience enjoyable. She deserves a raise on a for real tip.
