I made a recent visit to your new downtown store on the evening of July 11th. It was my FIRST visit to the new store and I was very excited. I was looking to get some sausage for my beans and rice recipe. I went over the butcher and he was very helpful in describing the sausages and what they might be like and what would go well with my dish. Right when I made the decision, he mentioned one other, the South African Sausage and even though it might not be the best for the dish, I decided to try it. I was also greeted and helped in picking out a bottle of wine. I cant say how impressed I was with the selection and service. I came after 6pm, so I was also pleasantly surprised to see there was a discount. I would recommend this shop to anyone and as someone who grew up in Savannah, I am glad to see it back.
They are so nice, and they have the best meat and fish. I always, and will always, recommend them to get fresh local products. A+++++
Smith Brothers is a home town favorite and has been since I moved to Savannah 30 years ago! The residents of the Landings community were blessed when the store moved from their Habersham Street location 25 years ago to The Village on Skidaway Island. We have been spoiled by the wonderful service extended to us by the owner Robert Anderson, the manager Gary Griffin, Willie the butcher, Ted in the wine department, and all their other friendly employees. Smith Brothers is well known for its exceptional meat and seafood department, and many customers frequently use that department to place orders for smoked items, perfectly cooked beef tenderloins, and any kind of meat or seafood they want prepared... they do it all. Just order it, pick it up, take it home, and serve it to your guests. Same thing for the hot and cold deli. Their tomato sandwiches have been served at many a tea or cocktail party. Ted and Gary are both quite knowledgeable with wine selections and the store carries a nice variety of moderately priced wines. The beer selection is quite nice, too. Many gourmet foods not found at any other store in Savannah can be had at Smith Brothers as well as local Savannah brands. Need stamps or have to mail a package? Smith Brothers has a postal station and a UPS station. The store hosts a Spring Fling and a Fall Festival which provides entertainment (car show, art, kids activities, food, wine tastings) for the the area residents. But it's the contributions to the community at large that make this business extra special. The management is very generous in giving donations of food to families who have fallen on hard times. The entrance of the store is commonly used to allow groups such as the Kiwanis Club, the Girl Scouts, and other community-based groups to promote their projects. Smith Brothers really has just about everything a resident of Skidaway Island might need and want. Please support this business.
Went to Smith’s for the beginning stop on a food tour of Savannah. Decided to have a picnic dinner at our hotel and Smith’s was gracious enough to deliver a delicious platter with meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts, bread and wine TO OUR HOTEL!!! They could not have been kinder to these out-of-towners!!! Thanks, Smith’s, for your excellent Southern hospitality

Absolutely a new favorite place already. I stopped in today for the first time, everyone there is so geuninely friendly and helpful. I grabbed a late lunch before an appointment and was so impressed with the roasted brocollini. I can not wait to try other menu items and do a little grocery shopping.
These folks love what they do and it shows every time you walk in! From scratch andouille to bone in prime rib and everything in between, this shop offers the best savannah has to offer!
So we went to the dinner, what a great dinner, ambiance, cool, very cool, everything about the evening was special, the food, the appies, the presentation, the mingling with a very nice sparkling Rose, this was a memorable evening. This was their first dinner with this many people, they're going to do this again, we'll be back.
My sister and I learned of your shop on a food tour of Savannah. We are still talking about your amazing blueberry sausage. Definitely have to make a day trip to do some shopping!

Gary hosted the most perfect wine and cheese tasting for my bachelorette party!! The wine and cheese recommendations were delicious and the decor was adorable! We all just loved Gary...definitely a memorable experience!!
Top notch for meat and cheeses. The weekly wine tastings have been a great way to find new favorites.
Smith Brothers has everything you could ever want or need in a local provisions store. Their meats are the highest quality I've tasted, their wine selection is incredible, and their staff is friendly and knowledgable. I've never tasted a bad thing from their store. Try the fresh made donuts and coffee for breakfast, the deli for lunch, and a seasoned flat iron steak with veggies for dinner - and don't forget their cocoa dusted chocolate covered almonds with wine for dessert. Extra "cool" points for a well-styled interior - I'm a customer for life.
I had a small trade tasting to present and contacted Gary Griffin with Smith Brothers. He and April put together the perfect food and presentation within a very reasonable budget. My guests had a more private entrance, plenty of space, and the opportunity to explore this wonderful place at their leisure. Parking was also available, ALWAYS a plus in downtown SAVANNAH. Thank you so much Gary and April for your hospitality and expertise!!
Fabulous store! Lamb chops, fresh veggies, wine , cheese ... even clotted cream for Sunday brunch!
AWESOME cuts of meat, grass fed Hunter Cattle beef co. And they ALWAYS have a jam up sandwich of the day!
I attended a private event. Great food. Wonderful wine selections. Best of all....a parking area!!! No hunting for a parking spot!!!
There is no better store in the region for meat than Smith Brothers. For the 12 years I lived in Savannah, I bought meat, fish, and wine at Smith's. Their attractive new store on Liberty continues the long tradition of the area's highest standard of excellence in meat and fish, very personalized service that you just don't get at chain store groceries, and some very tasty prepared foods when you don't have time to fix lunch or dinner. Now that they have been licensed for wine and beer, I can find a thoughtful selection of wines from real experts and not break the bank. I notice too that they are creating a center for expertise in cooking with a library of cook books. I love this place.
Remember when you could order what you wanted from a butcher shop?!? That's an old one. On a recent visit, this past Wednesday,, I mentioned to one of the counter guys that I really wanted some Hunter Cattle beef bones (anti-biotic free etc!) They said, they'd call me, when they had some. It's not an item they get all the time.
Well, it's Friday noon. I just received a call letting me know that the soup bones were in. Not only that, but they were willing to set them aside til tomorrow, for me to pick them up. Called me back with the deets on price. I could not be happier!
Great Service Equals Happy Customer. Thanks to the Butcher shop peeps at Smith Brothers! ... and did I mention how nice to have free parking?
Oh, and try their house-made brownies - priced a bit higher but a better value for the size! Mocha was awesome! And what tastes to me like a kale/parsley tabooleh salad! Just perfect with the right amount of lemon & a twist of crispy shallots(?) !
The best meats in town and the best deli style sandwiches as well.

Sad to hear Smith Brothers Butcher Shop is closing their doors December 29th. They took a special risk to bring their family institution of over 90 years and invested heavily downtown Savannah to build a really beautiful place and didn't play it safe which is a gambler's nature and I salute them. Even the "earthier" groceries around here won't come North of Victory Drive. Alas, its often the fate and visionaries for people ahead of their time and yes, timing is everything. I'd say, to soon and too much too early. You also hear the usual grumblings from the peanut galley, "too expensive, over priced." While that's true, we still see Whole Foods, "Whole Paycheck" afloat do we not? And hey, don't think Smith Brother's had a known plan to automate and replace human jobs with machines as does Whole Foods owner, Amazon's Jeff Bezos. I'd call that a plus. And granted Kroger around the corner is, well, like Whole Paycheck, a giant corporation with all of the marketing machinery. That will one day too replace its humans. Marketing lackluster may have also been a shortcoming for Smith Brother's. I'm not sure I saw enough of it or that it had its own identity in that way. And not kicking them when they're down here, but I'm not sure if anyone in their sphere said, "Ummm. there's no foot traffic." Historically Smith Brothers had the virtue of being the closest grocery store to the city's most elite walled Savannah community, The Landings. And not assuming to know-know, but will fairly theorize that might give one a false sense of reality of elsewhere. I think someone in their world said, "Well you know. they're building million dollar houses in that block...and there's that new megaplex condo development going in on E. President St" or whatever they fell under the spell of. They were good bets in a way and I mean, again kudos to them for "believing" in their town's growth. But many have died on the rampart's of Savannah's image vs some of its realities. As a Foodie Agent, I'm full of good advice and some closings make me happy because they just suck or had giant egos and I never shed a tear over some trendy joint to be honest. Its really the old school ones with heart that make me weep and this is certainly the case. So its probably a little late to dole out advice but mine would be this. The go-to "young" place was Parker's Market on Drayton St. They're open 24 Hours. Well when they remodeled and sold out to the look of their other gas stations, they lost face and honestly are no longer that cool or in the way it was for at least 20 years. They lost their edge. They still have location by bars and upscale hotels so they'll make it off of the quickie customers. Not saying Smith Brother's wants or wanted to be that. But even Parker's at one time had a high end deli and expansive gourmet retail. And they were the ultimate local's grocery who had all the older residents and the young crowd. Smith Brother's needed to get more ambitious and work the pulse of the market not just go after a singular vision for some high end regulars. Again, I'm not in their business office so can't speak to everything but I don't think they hustled all of the angles. Or enough. I'm just not sure they wanted it bad enough or had the right people on their team. I say these things in part, because yes, I want to sweep in and wave a wand and rescue Smith Brother's and this is my last ditch gasp. You know, if just to make it more difficult for an Amazon grocery to show up with robot bag boys that are promoted as "greener" because they run on Tesla batteries. But to also guarantee its success. But even my advice has arrived too late it appears. Thanks for keeping it human Smith Brother's. And sorry for your efforts lost. Look forward to the next chapter.
This place has an outstanding selection of food, everything in the butcher section looked delicious. Very nice selection of beer and wine.
Customer service, space, and quality of sandwiches are top notch. They have a great selection of meats and cheeses and specialty cuts. If ordering for lunch, plan ahead since there will be a wait typically at least 25 minutes regardless of the number of customers. Like other reviewers mentioned sandwiches are expensive but large and delicious. You should definitely stop in and check it out especially on free wine tasting Saturdays.
My husband and I ordered a cheese plate for our visit to Savannah. It was waiting for us when we arrived! We were so pleased with everything on it. The meats and cheeses were excellent and the portions were very generous. The fruit was very fresh and the olives and other pickled items were delicious. I highly recommend them!
An amazing selection to choose from and the staff is always willing to help. Every time I have gone in there, I have received nothing short of the best service. The butchers are more than willing to help out with making sure you get the best cut for what you are looking for. The deli counter also has a wonderul selection of meats and cheeses to choose from and the lunch specials are always easy on the wallet.
Great sandwiches -- the falafel surprisingly enough is literally the best I've ever had, they make their own sourdough wraps which are incredible. We often get meats from the butcher as well, I don't eat much beef so can't comment there but everything we've bought has been of excellent quality and surprisingly well priced.
My boyfriend and I stopped by here on our Savannah Food Tour. The owner was incredibly kind and came to our table when the platter was served to explain all the pieces and meats. The serving butcher always made sure we were catered to. The Blueberry sausage literally tastes like an entire breakfast exploding on your tastebuds. The beet dip is phenomenal! Our tour group did let an ounce of that go to waste.
Oh my gosh, this place is great. Shop here! Savannah needs more food shops like this. The meat is top quality for great prices - some local, no organic (that I've seen), all high quality. Wine, veggies, cheese! New deli offers expensive, but large, sandwiches.
Went to Smith Brothers today on the first stop of the Famous & Secret East Side Food tour. The owner came out and greeted us and served 3 different types of sausage made in house, as well as some delicious beet dip. They also sell locally sourced produce, some prepped foods, and have a large wine selection. Definitely worth checking out if you live or work nearby.
Amazing place. great selection of meats, veggies and wine. I pop in twice a week for food now, and I'm so much healthier for it. Very friendly bunch. Owners work there!
Best turkey sandwich I’ve ever had!!!!! I also purchased two big ass aged ribeyes!!! Amazing amazing!!! I will be back!!! And to the guy with the review about handling meat without gloves you’re retarded!!!
This family-owned and operated store has been in business since 1924. The owners and their staff are passionate about quality products, quality service and building relationships with their customers and vendors. Smith Brothers Butcher Shop offers the highest quality meats, wine, cheese and speciality food items to its customers.
Love this amazing shop! Big selections of wine, cheeses, meats and more. The owners are delightful and the staff offers very friendly customer service.
Tried this location during a food tour, amazing experience. Next trip to Savannah from Daytona we purchased some sausages and took home, its that good...….highly recommend for anyone for fresh meats etc.
Very good sandwiches. Not you average deli by no means . Seating is limited so prepare to carry out on peak hours
Authentic, old school butcher shop with all the family ownership traits you want plus all the style/accoutrements "sides" you'd expect from a tastemaker's upgrade. Why shop Whole Foods - and pay their prices - when Smith Brothers exists? (Question I asked & answered of myself when I stopped buying meat at WF and started getting it here.)
Always the finest meats, hand cut to my specifications. Produce and wine selections are outstanding. Service is always superlative!!!
