Boyfriend and I stopped in here for dinner after wandering around City Market and the shopping districts. I was delighted to find that the shop is actually Japanese owned and operated! For those of you complaining about price vs. size, lemme tell you a little something about sushi and dining in Japan -- your portion sizes are smaller and people typically share plates. When the Japanese go out to eat and drink for the night, they order a bunch of things, nibble on all of them, and split the bill. If you want more food for your money, stick to the rip-off hibachi places. We actually got a great deal that night since the restaurant was offering your choice of 1 large decorative pressed sushi piece from the case plus either your choice of roll or 4 pieces of chef's choice nigiri. Deal also came with your choice of miso soup or dessert for $15.95. I got the Sunrise (shrimp, egg, salmon roe) and a roll. Boyfriend got the spicy tuna and avocado large piece and the 4 nigiri. We got free refills on miso soup as well, but that may have been because the wife was happy that I'd lived in Japan and she had someone to talk to. Here's something she told me that also helps you understand how their restaurant is different: They have the bigger decorative pressed sushi in the case because the area is populated with poor art students who need something light to eat at night when they're up studying and working on projects. They'll pop into Sushi Zen and get a large piece of sushi and some soup to go. All in all, they've only spent $6 on a light meal that will power them through their night without putting them in a gross food coma like McDonald's or Zaxby's would. If I ever find myself back in Savannah, I will definitely visit Sushi Zen again. The food was delicious and the staff were welcoming and kind. Made me feel like I was back in Japan again.

The most delicious sushi I've eaten. It's pretty expensive though. After a night of drinking, Sushi Zen can be dangerous on the wallet.
