Attended the electric city best of 2017 award ceremony which was held at Backyard Ale House last night. They had a buffet for all the winners and guests. They had pasta pizza and wings. Generally, I hate wings but being that I was quite hungry I grabbed a few.
Once I tried them I was regretting not filling the plate! They were perfect. They were not hot and the sauce was pretty mild. I personally loved the taste. The pizza was also very good. Would definetly go out of my way to go out to dinner there now. 5stars
We had a very good server named Amber. The service was outstanding the timing of bringing out the food was great and the food was fantastic! I highly recommend this place if you're in Scranton PA
I don’t know why some people gave this place bad reviews, but Debbie and I had a great time. The service was lacking in nothing. The food, well, it was fantastic. I recommend the Banjo Pig. Couldn’t eat it all. We will be back
This place has been a mandatory stop for the past 3 years. I drove from Florida up to Connecticut, and made sure I stopped at Backyard just to be in this little slice of Heaven. The beer list is endless, the food is superb, the staff is knowledgeable and extremely friendly, and the atmosphere reminds me of returning home. This location is very hospitable, and I've recommended it to everyone I come across if they're traveling within the Scranton area.
Stopped for a few drinks with our daughter, I wanted a Smirnoff Ice Raspberry as my second drink, asked for Smirnoff Raspberry, got Vodka and water on ice! My fault, third drink got my bottle, bartender noticed, apologized, deducted second drink! Didn’t have to, mistake was my fault! Very good atmosphere.
Great place & service .... Jeff & Thaz were the best!!!..
Tonight was not my first night at the Backyard Ale House, but it WAS my first time having their food. The sandwich I had was REALLY good...like to the point where i had to put down my sandwich and text my friends and tell them how good it was. I had the Midtown Melt and the Strawberry Lager. The service was really quick as well. My friend and I went to the Backyard Ale House around 6:30pm before we saw Kinky Boots just around the corner at the Scranton Cultural Center at 8pm. We were in and out in about an hour give or take, without even telling them we were in a semi-rush to catch the show. We didn’t need to. The service was THAT good. I’ll definitely be back :)
This is my 3rd time here for Sunday Brunch and I am not disappointed. The omelette does not even fit on the plate and the home fries are once again perfect. The Bloodys are the best around. I had three. The atmosphere is clean, comfortable, and relaxed. The service is friendly and attentive. You don't get one waiter you get a Team. They all work together making sure your desires are met. Alternatives were suggested and made to accommodate the uncommon food allergy of my friend. Joe remembered me from my prior visit and offered the same beverage. I thought this was remarkable. Kuddos to Zack and Allie as well.
Terrific menu, staff, beer selection and more importantly quality live music.
Awesome vibe inside. Great selection of beers, drinks, and nice pub food menu. Good bbq which is smoked daily. Fantastic onion soup. Hot garlic wing sauce was good. Great service.
Excellent service, decent beer options. Some good food with hits and misses, the ribs are very good, the brisket is a bit bizarre, cut too thinly and has a dry bacon type vibe... But a nice spot overall. Dog-friendly space in the back which is what we needed so extra point for being accommodating on that front.

Visiting from Texas, and falling in love with the surroundings. Dropped in and enjoyed incredibly.
Dope concept. Smoked Turkey/Dressing/Gravy/Cranberries atop Sweet Potato Fries. Definitely reminded me of Thanksgiving and it was #Noms #PoutineStyle. We enjoyed the smoked chicken… it’s beyond flavorful.
We went here with my parents to celebrate my son's birthday. We ordered the smoker sampler and the Bavarian pretzels as our starters. The ribs were some of the best we ever had extremely tender and delicious. The wings were very smoky and flavorful. I ordered the surf and turf grilled cheese, my son ordered the Nashville chicken sandwich, my father ordered the cowboy burger and my mother ordered the steak Flatbread. Everyone's food was fresh and hot and we all loved what we got. Our waitress was Sherry and she was excellent. Very friendly and got everyone's orders correct by memory. Highly recommended.
I had never been to Scranton before and didn't know what to expect as far as dining. We were invited to this place by a work friend and I was not disappointed.
We were promptly seated and had our orders taken. The pretzel appetizer was hot and dipping sauces delicious. I ordered the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich and although I'm not sure what the standard is for that meal, the one I was served was absolutely delicious. Perfect breading on the chicken, crunchy but not too heavy. The meat was tender and juicy, and the sauce on top was spicy enough to make me cough a bit, but not such that I couldn't taste it and I'm so glad that I could. Possibly the most important part, for me, is that the bun was soft and didn't break apart while I was eating it.
My friend ordered a rack of ribs and they came out looking incredible and with more meat on them than a previous place we had eaten at the day before. Though I don't drink anymore, the beer menu was substantial with lots of great labels and types.
If this establishment was in a larger city, I fear it would be impossible to get a seat in it. I would absolutely eat there again and I suggest you do as well.
My wife and I and Of Aged Step Daughter all went out for Lunch and we had a wonderful time. Food And drinks Beer and Cocktails. Yum yum 😋 I would definitely be going back here again. The Bartenders and Waitresses and Cooks were all good to us.
It’s an ale house that had a backyard. It’s crazy. The people seem cool that work here and the clientele ranges from young and hip to old and curmudgeoned. If you hate college kids then come during the off-season.
First time in Scranton and I’m quite sure I have stumbled on the coolest place in town. Enjoying the outdoor patio bar with many others enjoying the cool summer evening. Great selection of local craft, IPA and international beers on tap and bottles. Great atmosphere inside and a little younger outside. A must stop if you are if you find yourself downtown. Not to mention I might die of a heart attached driving home tonight from the brisket, bacon aioli jam, cheese fries…
