U:Don was on my list of places to try last time we were in Seattle. They have another location in town (Capitol Hill) but this one is surrounded by a plethora of restaurants on University Way.

We dropped in on a Friday evening (around 6:30pm) and the place was popping. Mostly students but don't worry, there's tons of booths and even an udon bar for the solo diners.

There's about 16 udon options (cold and hot) along with a few tempura and dessert. You choose from three sizes (small, medium or large). Awesome that you can see the udon noodles being made fresh while you wait in line. Green onions, grated fresh ginger and tempura flakes are free to add into your bowl.

- 2x Onion ring tempura ($0.33 US each) - these were sitting out for awhile so they weren't fresh but still tasty. It tastes better dipped in their tempura sauce.
- Curry udon ($10.50 US large) - spicy Japanese curry dashi soup with beef, onions and green onions. They give you a massive amount of noodles which had a springy bite and retained a good texture the whole time. Broth is flavourful. Solid.
- Tan tan udon ($10.00 US large) - topped with spicy pork, wakame and house made chili oil. I was surprised that the broth was actually spicy. Good kick to both the broth and meat. Loved the wakame for some vegetables and change in texture. Again, noodles were abundant and had a satisfying chewy bite to them.

Reasonably priced, comfort food at U:Don. I'd happily come back again to get my udon fix.

Came here for a quick lunch. There are a handful of choices, and for most of them, you can pick from 3 portion sizes. The medium is plenty for most folks. Ordered the kitsume udon with vegetable broth. It was prepared very fast, right in front of you. Taste-wise, it was quite good, and filling, and it was quick.

Excellent soup and noodle restaurant! It is pretty involved when you walk in and you have to read the menu and signs to figure out the ropes and what exactly it is you want to eat. Once you figure that out it is fine. There is of course staff that can help you through it. I got a nice noodle pork soup which was perfect for my lunch as well as some dumplings and a few extra items on the side. The meal wound up being very satisfying and delicious and I did not leave overfull since you can kind of dictate what size your portions will be.

Great place to go if you're craving udon. Service was pretty quick considering I went during lunch rush, and everyone I went with enjoyed their food. The prices were pretty good and the food was filling. I highly recommend the takoyaki, which contains octopus. I would definitely come back!

The dishes were great, all the food was wonderful and beyond expectation in quality. I have been to many Udon houses before and having lived in Japan I definitely ate the best Udon there was! But this was definitely up there with some of the best I've ever had. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4.5 is because of the menu being so complicated and the system of ordering not being as fluid as I'd have liked. The menu was up on the wall and it was sorted into many categories that didn't make sense, in the end I had the kitsune udon which I'm pretty sure means "fox" in Japanese. It had 2 pieces of tofu on it and that was that. It was tasty! The other options for food were great too with a lot of traditional japanese food like onigiri and tempura. Great place to hang out, eat food, and enjoy great company!

With out of town guests visiting, we went to U:Don at University Ave. U:Don is most definitely my top choice for udon and Japanese fried food in Seattle. They have summer specials now with cold tan tan udon and better yet, my new favorite goma tan tan udon! It’s spicy (slow accumulating heat) and it’s delicious!

It’s the first time I had udon in a curry broth. Since it’s any topping goes I went with the sweet potato croquette & tempura for one, wifey did chicken karaage and poached egg. Side of takoyaki to completely spoil myself with all the deep fried goodness. I say the meal was good, not regular rotation though. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a try especially if you got a college student budget.

Delightful noodle place. This is a clean, inexpensive noodle house with great noodles and delightful toppings. We'll drive to the U-District just to eat here.

Flavorful noodles fast. In a very nondescript building with a smaller sign so it is easy to miss. The inside is kind of blah but the food is worth it. Order at the counter and they make your bowl in front of you. Add tempura pieces/ or spring rolls for an extra charge per piece. The broth is very flavorful and the noodles are homemade and cooked perfectly. My 2 year old even loved them! Then you bus your own table and your done. Great on a cold rainy seattle day!

Fanstic, new japanese noodle experience on the Ave. U:Don is one of a kind here in Seattle. It's a Japanese joint that serves up fresh, made-on-site japanenese noodle/soup dishes that are healthy, flavorful, and fullfill my culinary desires. I am thrilled to report that the U District has another jem for us to try.

Order at the counter and find your own seating. This place was really packed on a Tuesday. The udon was amazing though! Great taste. I wish there were more free toppings and the additional tempura toppings cost a little extra.

I liked the tempura selection but it was a little cold. The portions are big for the udon even for the smaller size as well. Came here on a Sunday evening and it wasn’t very crowded. Plus, you order and get your food before seating yourself so this makes for a good place to bring a group.

The tonkatsu curry udon dish is delicious. Their curry is made in beef stock and onions which makes a scrumptious sauce. Only concern was the cold tempura and gyoza. :/ Wasn’t my favorite, but the takoyaki has the perfect consistency to it. Everything is well-priced and well balanced. I’d return!

I dined here in May of 2022, during the Street Festival. The prices were excellent, and the food was perfectly filling! There are a wide variety of options, and you are definitely able to customize your Udon based on your preferences -- they offer both cold and hot options, along with many sauces and add-ons (spring rolls, etc.). If you are looking for a great quick option in the U-District, I would highly recommend U:Don!

A different experience of what I’m used to ordering my food in general. It was a good place, tasty, and big dishes, but a little bit expensive and strange if you haven’t been there before.

I had the tan tan udon soup here after deliberating on the dipping version (tsukemen) or soup. It's got a good amount of spice and flavour is not lacking. The tempura is reasonably priced and I'm reminded of marugame in Japan (chain udon and tempura shop) and I did not expect to find this in Seattle. Only thing missing is the grated daikon for the tempura sauce.

I was searching for some udon place and found this place. The taste is good, not too salty and totally not oily. The server was quick and professional. Although the place is not so big but I recommend having a udon there :)

I really love udon and there's plenty of stores of hot soup udon as well as chilled dipping udon, with the choice to add in all kinds of fixings. They also have a tempura bar so you can add different kinds of tempura on the side (price varies by type chosen). Pictured is a small sized kitsune udon and a few pieces of tempura. This place hand makes all their noodles fresh right out front so you can sometimes watch behind the glass as they press the dough while you wait. They even offer to-go take out and package the soup base sperate from the noodles to ensure that they will be there desired texture when you get around to eating them. They're always a great place to stop in if you're looking for a quick bite.

Fresh udon and union. The style is similar to marukame undo in hawaii. Self serve and you can pick your toppings. The udon comes in hot soup or cold or mix with sauce. Wish the portion of the meat is bigger. The tempura just so so to me. Overall we enjoyed our meal.

Food is great but too expensive. Makes you put a minimum 20% tip on your total, bringing a meal for two beyond what the food is worth, after noodles, tempura and drinks. In Japan, there is no tip culture. Pay your employees a fair wage like Molly Moons (another Seattle based business) does, rather than forcing your customers to pay exorbitant prices. This is one reason why people don't eat out and why businesses struggle. I only took off one star for this, because employees were nice and helpful and the tempura was good though cold. Could have asked for them to make it fresh but didn't know that til after we ordered.

This place was much much better than I first thought! Prices are solid, and the food is also really really good for its price. There’s a small bar after you get your udon which you can add on such as spring rolls, gyoza, karagge, etc. though obviously not the freshest made/fried, the prices are still really good for it (45 cents per gyoza when I went in December 2022) The udon is also very solid, good selection as well. The portions are also good since there’s 3 sizes to choose from. Curry udon nice unique flavor and feel! Highly highly recommend to try at least once!

Both the niku udon and tan tan we're super yummy. I really like the deep fried food bar with tons of options to pick from. I'm still pretty new to udon but I enjoyed this place and the vibe it gives. Pricing seems a little steep but with the pandemic most places have increased menu prices.

The Niku Udon was good and savory from the sukiyaki beef and onions. The Ume Niku Orishi was on the sweeter side. This place is consistent and tastes and looks the same as it did nearly 10 years ago. The side options were good, the tempura is a hit or miss depending on how long it has been sitting out.
