The crowd at Herkimer is usually present because they seeking it out. Near Ravenna/Cowen park, it’s away from the white noise of “The Ave” and is a place to linger. My visits to this locations are rare, admittedly, due to its small size; they have reliable wifi and a good amount of outlets, but I’ve only seen its few tables occupied. Herkimer is small, mature, and confident in their product which features fresh beans roasted daily that emphasize quality (their americanos can attest to that). Take the gamble favoring quality over quantity and make an effort to land here for a fulfilling morning.
Another great cup of espresso.. Met up with a friend here and the coffee was pretty good. We tried the local donuts they were feature here and Zoka. They were the Mighty O Donuts. Not bad for an organic/vegan donut.
Perfect and Exquisite. The folks at Herkimer know exactly what they're doing. From the selection of the beans, through the roasting process, and finally to pulling the shots, the skill and dedication to the fine art of espresso is unmatched in Seattle. Obviously I am a big fan and a regular, but when every day my latte is exquisite and beautiful, a work of art in a cup, how could I ever go anywhere else?
I'm not a coffee person so I actually am rarely at this location. However, over the past year I've gotten to try (thanks to their generosity with the community) an assortment of the various pastries they offer. And those pastries are quite amazing.
This is a cute little coffee shop that serves amazing drinks as well as sells amazing coffee. They have a great collection of some single origin coffee and they also carry their own blends. You can buy whole beans or get it ground from the cafe itself. It’s my first time purchasing beans from here and I really like the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. The baristas are pretty friendly and knowledgeable about the coffees they sell so ask away any questions you may have. The art work and the rustic interior theme also makes it very nice to work or read a book at the cafe. Downside is that it’s a small cafe but that should not be an issue if there’s few people sitting in the cafe to begin with.
Many of Seattle’s coffee shops went paper/plastic cups after the pandemic, and I’m so glad Herkimer returned to porcelain cups. Love their buiscuit and cappuccino. Big table to sit and read. Fast and easy internet. I like the soft rock music they play. A laid back neighborhood place with soft spoken barista.
Cozy coffee place with some of the best coffees in u district. You can get beans here too.
And the coffee is much cheaper than Starbucks. Better too.
The staff are warm and friendly
Lovely little neighborhood shop! We stopped by on a Sunday morning for some drinks and a quick snack. The baristas were really kind and we got exactly what we came for. Both the drinks and the baked treats were really solid. We enjoyed sitting and sipping near the window for the brief sunlight. Perfect AM pitstop before starting a lazy weekend —
So for context, I've been trying to get out to as many of Seattle's espresso places as possible when I have time off, especially ones that have come recommended. I've been recommended Herkimer a *lot*. A lot of places I love use their beans!
That said, the cappuccino I got here didn't live up to the reputation. I don't really know what all the variables are; I've heard even great baristas occasionally pull bad shots. My cappuccino was really acidic and a bit burnt- not the most burnt I've had, for sure. Better than Starbucks, for sure; It was also not busy, so I don't think it was a case of the staff being crunched. I think I was led to believe this place was a bit more of a "we dial in everything with care" place, but it seems more like a "get your daily latte" place that is not very intense about the quality of shots pulled.
Anyways; no shade to Herkimer or the staff! If this was my local shop I'd still come often. Again, better than Starbucks and a great local option- Mostly, if you are hunting for the *best* cups in Seattle, it doesn't quite live up to it's reputation yet, to me.
Caveat that I also know from my local shops that even the same barista can have a wide range of shot quality, or the quality can vary between baristas, so I don't want to review bomb based on a single drink. (I have definitely picked which shop to go to based on the day of the week, so...)
(4 stars because I'm not trying to hurt the business!! mostly just posting to try and give constructive feedback/set expectations. The baristas were very nice and the vibes were good!)
Fantastic coffee and fantastic service! Espresso roast was a lovely medium blend - very smooth, gentle earthiness, and mild tannin. Ordered a cafe latte and was quite impressed. Service was also great. My new go to coffee spot in UDistrict.
While there are better coffee shops in Seattle, the atmosphere here cannot be beat. If you need to finish some work or need a place to study, I highly recommend this coffee shop.
Great service, enjoyable environment and delicious coffee. Was a little disappointed with the pb cookie, as it didn't taste very peanut buttery, but great crum and not overly sweet. Everything looked lovely!
love this place! great, simple neighborhood coffee shop with excellent prices. everyone working there is chill & friendly. 5+ stars!
