Great food and a beautiful covered patio. Perfect for lunch on a rainy day. The fish tacos were great, but they would be better on a corn tortilla instead of flour. The fries were well seasoned and perfectly crispy.
My partner ordered the BLT which I did not take pictures of, but picture a stock photo of a perfect BLT cut triangle-style (best style) and that’s what it looked like and tasted like. He said, “I don’t normally care about BLTs, but I think I loved that one.” Well said, sir. I had the Earl Grey panna cotta and hot tea. The place is very beautiful inside and relaxing. They also played Waiting Room by Fugazi so 5/5 stars from me.
Such a fun place and really lovely outdoor space to enjoy in the warm weather (patio in the back). Cocktails were the star of the show - try the holy smokes and the tequila one heh. We got the tuna melt, the Reuben, and the ortolana. Also fries and onion rings 🥰 Generally, everything was great, but more of a heavy food place. By that I mean, if you’re looking for a lot of lighter options, it might not be the spot for you. But if you’re looking for delicious sandwiches, burgers, pizza… this is a great spot with the ambiance to match. ALSO: they have a very accessible menu (see photos) and actually tell you exactly what is GF, DF, NF, veg, etc. really appreciate that!
My food pics speak for themselves. What they don't say is how great the staff are! Ben is our usual lunchtime server and he's awesome! It's a great place to regroup after a hectic work morning! The Vacilando burgers and the chaat chicken are a must try. And the onion rings are fire🔥!
A really great, albeit surprisingly quiet, place to have lunch and read some books from Ada's next door. We were having coffee next door and wanted something to eat, so we stopped in around 1pm on a Saturday. The venue is really nice, well appointed with tall ceilings and a very European/London feel. The service was great, friendly and made us feel comfortable.
The food blew us away, I had the chicken on naan sandwhich and was absolutely shocked on how good it was. From the description I was expecting the classic orange Indian-American chicken on naan affair I've had a million times, but what I got was a perfectly balanced brined and charred chicken, pickle-y, crunchy sandwich.
Going again for sure.
The restaurant is one of the most beautiful in Seattle, especially the patio. They've managed to get large trees in the patio, string lights and carved wooden furniture. The food is good, it's like elevated bar food. The Reuben bread is delicious. Will love more vegan options.
The bar has a great atmosphere. The food was tasty and the aioli for the fries was bomb. They had live music playing which created a great atmosphere too. I’m a big fan of their Rueben Sandwich.
Booked the patio for a private event this past weekend and it was great! The staff was super nice and helpful in getting things organised ahead of time (food and drink menu), quick to answer questions when they would come up and amazing during the event.
We had about 32 people on the patio and probably could fit a bit more without it feeling super tight. Would highly recommend people give this a consideration when looking to book a party!
Updating my review after 4 years. I first encountered this place pre-covid and it seemed to have changed hands after, which made me a bit nervous. My nervousness was unneeded, however. The food and drinks and place were still as creative and interesting as I remembered it. I had the very good fortune of living just around the corner for 2 whole years and looked forward to going. The staff are such a friendly bunch and the menu shifts sometimes to keep you on your toes. Their meatless options are far better in my opinion than even their meat ones and the sides are always a treat. This place will always have a place in my heart and I'm so sad I'm moving and won't be as close.
I loved this place and the food and ambiance are awesome! Both our dishes were very tasty, generous portions and really delicious flavors. The design and overall feel of the space is wonderful! So bright and fun. The only thing that was disappointing was the drip coffee. This place is really wonderful and it would really level-up your service if you offered quality espresso-based beverages to go with brunch!
My friend and I stumbled upon this place a few weeks ago, but thought it was closed. Had it not been for the posted "Blunch" menu, we likely would have continued missing out on what we both agree to be the best breakfast spot and best decor in all of Seattle, as I would not have found it again without Googling "Capital Hill Blunch".
I fear reviewing Bar Vacilando may uncover a best-kept-secret - only 35 reviews after nearly a year in operation, yet full of an eclectic group of clearly loyal patrons? Alas, this spot is fabulous and, thus, deserves the proper praise.
Service: laid back, unpretentious, and occasionally requiring a wave for service.
Menu: limited and likely intimidating for the unadventurous, but pleasantly creative and enticing for the curious palate.
Vibe: laid back with an eclectic patronage, as noted above. From hipster to hippy, and cute engagement party to boisterous birthday celebration, Sunday best to rolled-out-of-bed: we were all here.
Setting: A much-appreciated break from the Industrial Chic decor of everywhere else.
Indoors is stunning: beautiful, clean lines, marble table tops, and minimal decor. The dark cherry wood behind the bar provides the perfect touch of warmth. Absolutely gorgeous.
Outdoors is a lovely covered patio with tri-fold French doors, string lights, and ornate benches paired with single chairs. Overhead heaters, garden decor and greenery, and the clear vinal covering create a greenhouse feel. It was a tad too warm, so wear layers. My friend and I plan to visit during the evening to check out the covered patio with the string lights on.
Food:
Brisket hash: excellent flavor, potato perfection, large portion, served in a skillet.
Caribbean Benedict on Plantains: nearly perfectly poached eggs (one edge of one egg was overdone), perfect amount of nearly perfect hollandaise (perfect texture, but slightly too citrus), set upon perfectly crisped plantain.
Beverages:
Water: Each table receives a glass bottle and small tumblers.
Coffee: Strong, not bitter, with refills. Varieties of sugars and creamers available upon request.
Cold Brew w Bourbon & Cream: We instantly regretted ordering regular coffee when we saw this item. All the flavors came thru rather delightfully, with Bourbon taking definitive prominence.
Bloody Mary: Spicy with garnishments! It's tough to find a good Bloody Mary, but we found it here!
Good food. Great atmosphere. Amazing service.
Booked the patio for my birthday party, and everything was perfect! The service was incredible, especially for having 30+ people. The food was amazing, and they were so patient with us even though I’m sure we were slightly annoying. Thank you!!!
Super cute little gem in cap hill! Adorable quiet hidden patio in the back that allows dogs. Gorgeous decor, lots of plants. Happy hour deals are better for food than drinks but the drinks were super tasty! Crab artichoke dip was killer and everything else that passed by our table smelled and looked amazing! Specifically the pear flat bread, Brussels sprout salad, shishito peppers and chicken wings. Will definitely be back for a full meal!
Beautiful interior space. We had a delicious brunch. Cocktails were excellent and the Apple pie is not to be missed. We'll definitely come back.
A mellow bar with quality burgers and sandwiches. The staff is also super friendly which is a plus.
