Yes!!!!! I'll say it again for the people in the back- yyyyaaaaeeeesaassssss! So cute, so good! Yeeeaaaassss! It's that time of the year again where restaurant week reigns supreme, and this time they didn't miss! I had their restaurant week special which was a salmon box. Everything was perfect, especially the salmon belly, grilled salmon and salmon sashimi! Everything was fresh tasty and out of this world. Despite this location doubling as a bakery, they know how to make sushi and prepare wonderful pastries. The matcha cheesecake was superb with plenty of fresh matcha powder on top and mung beans on the bottom. This was easily my favorite matcha desert ever! While they don't have indoor seating, I saw two small tables outside. I'll be going back and happy freaking restaurant week!

Cozy, clean atmosphere. Good food and delicious desserts! Very nice neighborhood restaurant. I like their Poke bowl, Salmon teriyaki set, some happy hour menus. Their desserts are superb. Everything is tasty without feeling sugar heavy. Highly recommend!! Family friendly, street parking only. Went back to my favorite restaurant. We had Spicy poke bowl, curry, Kimono roll and desserts. Spicy poke bowl was not spicy enough for my taste but it was good because I can taste each ingredients. It was not too saucy nor salty like other places that serve poke. Really good. Curry is also very good here. It comes with a small salad and potato salad. One of my favorite dessert is Yuzu panna cotta which has a delicate flavor with a hint of yuzu. Not too heavy.

Lovely store and employees! Got some great suggestions for bentos for the family. The food was delicious and nutritious! They also sell some goods like bags and cups which were very cute.

Originally went in to get desserts but the food menu was too tempting. Slid in a minute before happy hour ended, very nice of them to give us the happy hour deals. Got an assorted sashimi salad with fresh fish and a savory dressing on it, 3pc hamachi carpaccio with some yuzu was very refreshing, and the mini salmon Don had a decent amount of fresh salmon along with warm rice. In the end treated ourselves with salmon Toro nigiri, which was phenomenally buttery and rich. Got desserts: rich creamy custard pudding with a delicious caramel sauce, and a matcha tiramisu with azuki on the bottom. Also got a strawberry mochi daifuku to go, which was devoured in an instant. Will definitely come again! Cute restaurant vibes and good staff. However definitely understaffed and service was a bit slow.

Their sushi is good! Ocean Platter is made fresh upon our order. Refreshing rolls, we had the White Emperor rolls. Then the desserts - yuzu panna cotta, strawberry mochi - all light and just right. New favorite place for desserts in town.

Delicious sushi specials and grilled options! Cute atmosphere, but kinda small so make sure to come during a quieter time. Next time I'll have to try the baked goods they make...

We came here right after lunch and the owner was prepping for dinner time. She was wonderful and allowed us to buy pastries. Very nice space, great desserts, and wonderful customer service.

at $30 all in for a chirashi bowl that is 80% the portion of fremont bowl, I am not excited about the quality trade off that might be present.

I ordered a delivery, that was a really good Japanese dessert. Since I was a crazy matcha fan, the green tea tiramisu and green tea roll cake are the best. The strawberry roll cake and custard pudding are amazing as well. Definitely recommend!!

We live down the street. We also eat at restaurants all over Seattle. The thing that stands out for me at Modern is the food feels like it’s lovingly prepared. The ingredients are premium. Even the to go orders are carefully prepared. We get the salmon bento a lot, and the cuts of fish are premium. It’s the perfect amount of food. Tiny garnishments of pickled vegetables compliment everything perfectly. Service is also top notch. Love this place!

I used to eat there a lot when I was living in Seattle. It is a small cute Japanese restaurant where offers varies kinds of sushi rolls. Their entries are also great, especially the Japanese curry. It is quite flavorful and spicy. Love it! Their desserts are heaven. You cannot never leave that place without ordering some their famous desserts. They are all daily made, super fresh and low sugar. Just hope they can lower the prices a bit, quite expensive for its small portion.

Their sushi is really fresh and their customer service is incredibly friendly! Their desserts are also really good! Location is really close to the Woodland Park Zoo so I would highly recommend taking a quick trip over to it once you are done with your zoo trip.

We did takeout for my pandemic birthday! Our first time, encouraged by delicious looking food posts from our Seattle Minority Owned Resraurant Support page on FB. We had simple shrimp tempura udon for the kids, which they loved, kara age, another kid fave. Them my husband and I split the sushi. If you want to indulge in sushi. Consider the party platters. I had called ahead to reserve a few desserts that were left. They sell our quickly so call ASAP in the morning. That said, I'm stuffed. We did green tea tiramisu, custard with matcha powder on top and sweet red bean on the bottom. Absolutely great!

Excellent small Japanese restaurant that has Japanese desserts along with sushi, rice bowls, and other Japanese foods. I was really impressed with the quality of the edamame, hijiki salad, and the pickled ginger. I’m betting it’s all made on site as it was a cut above the typical Japanese restaurant. We ate here with a party of six, including 3 kids and everyone was really happy. The desserts were a hit too. They have a back outside terrace I look forward to trying when it’s warmer...and sunny! They also have take-out too.

Yes! Authentic Japanese. I’m worried this review will make it impossible to eat here again, but it was really nice. Of course not like japan, but still of the sushi places in Seattle this was affordable and good! Sushi rice was very well done and the cuts were generous, but not repulsive. We will be back again. Gochisosamadeshita!
