Worth a try!. Despite all the bad reviews and the less than 60% favorable rating (which usually is a red flag), we decided to try Tony Gore's on a Wednesday afternoon. We ordered a whole slab of baby backs, and unlike other reviewers, found them fresh and well smoked. They are served with no sauce so the meat is dry on the outside, but inside is moist and flavorful. This is how ribs were meant to be served. Should you need a sauce, they have 5, and the sweet went well with the ribs.

Potato salad was good, fried green tomatoes were great dipped in their barbecue ranch which our server told us was homemade like all their sides.

I won't say it's the best bbq, but it's nice to have another option when visiting the area. In my opinion, it's far superior to the chains on the strip.

Pleasant Surprise. My wife and I were on vacation, and stopped at Tony's on a whim. (We had trouble accessing the internet that night...and in this case I'm glad. Our experience wasn't like any of the reviews I read later)
We were greeted by friendly staff, The décor is not big budget pretentious like a lot of the Chains can be, but it was nice, clean and cozy. I didn't mind the gospel music, it adds to the décor.
The food was very good. My wife and I shared. She ordered the Brisket, and I had the Catfish. The Brisket had a nice spice from the rub, a lot of great smokey flavor and was tender. We loved the selection of sauces, and they all went well with the meat. The Catfish was tender and moist. Cooked just right. I mixed a little of the spicy teriyaki style sauce and some of the spicy vinegar sauce together and dipped some of the catfish in. Wow. The coleslaw. We really liked it. it was different the plain ol' stuff every other place has. This was cool and refreshing, I liked that it didn't linger on your mouth and tongue like some slaws do. It's almost like a palate cleanser for your next bite of wonderful BBQ.
About the portion size. We didn't get dessert, and we were full when we left. And the price wasn't any different that any other place.

Best BBQ ever! Staff was friendly and helpful about the menu. It took awhile for our food to get out but it was SO worth it. I recommend this place to anyone who is in the area!

Great pulled pork. Very casual restaurant and small, but the food was very good. I had the pulled pork which I'm told is 6oz of meat but seemed like a lot more. Great smoked flavor to the pork, nice and tender too. For sauce I actually mixed the spicy and sweet sauces and the combo was amazing! They are good separate as well. Coleslaw was ok - little liquidy, but it was never my dish but it came standard. The okra was fried up just right - golden and crispy but not burnt. And the deep fried roll? Like eating a donut (thus it doubled as my dessert). All together, very satisfying.

Yummy BBQ goodness!. The restaurant is nothing special to look it and you can see the cook outside smoking/grilling the meat next to the parking lot. The interior is rather simple and very casual. Southern Gospel music plays in the background. Don't let that foodl you because the food is the star of the show.

I am really surprised that previous posters were complaining about portion size because every one of my dining companions had leftovers. I guess it depends on your appetite.

We began our meal with fried green tomatoes that were quite tasty and served with a housemade, spicy ranch sauce.

I ordered the BBQ chicken and the flavor was incredibly smoky with just the right amount of spice. The fried okra was just okay. The fried corn on the cob was fairly good.

My dining companion enjoyed the baked beans that were obviously slow simmered all day with lots of shredded pork added. He had the half chicken that was grilled to perfection.

They offer kids meals and my son had a good sized pulled meat sandwich with fries. The fries were so good I found myself ordering a basket for the table and a bargain at $1.99!

While we didn't have dessert, the coconut cake looked quite decadent.

A good place for a casual, BBQ meal. Make sure you try all 5 of the housemade sauces on the table. They are all quite good.

This is by far the best barbecue in town! The ribs literally fall off the bone. I'm not sure what others are complaining about, the portions are huge. And the after dinner treats are amazing...try the chocolate elegance!

Nice quite little BBQ place. A little pricey but I thought the portions were large. I had the upgraded 4 meat deal which got me a half rack of baby back ribs. Along with the pig candy , chicken , and smoked turkey breast. I haven't had or seen chicken legs this big in years. They have a BBQ sauce section where you choose which sauce you want. While I prefer my ribs to have the sauce smoked or grilled on the meat while it's cooking, I would still recommend you to stop and try it.

We just ate at Tony Gore’s Smoky Mountain BBQ for the first time. The food is absolutely delicious! We were only able to eat half of what they gave us so now we get to look forward to leftovers!! The lady that took our order was so friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back!!!

This place is fantastic. Food is amazing, we got the 4 meats platter and the brisket platter (pork burnt end is the best I’ve ever had) and everything else tasted so great as well very tender and flavorful. Owner is very interesting and friendly, he is also a gospel singer, and all the tips for the restaurant go to charity. We will definitely be back:-) highly recommended!

Mouth watering good BBQ! The pulled pork with the family sweet and tangy BBQ sauce makes me want to drive back to TN. My hubby got the brisket and thought it was good too. They had 3 or four sauces and heat levels to choose from.

Tony Gore’s restaurant was very good! The whole restaurant smelled amazing from the meat smoking outside, the sides were delicious, and the cake was divine. We got the chicken, the loaded potato, and the burnt tips with a variety of sides. I would definitely recommend it.

By far some of the best bbq we’ve had. If you’re looking for authentic bbq this is the place to be. The hospitality there was great. The employees were helpful and friendly. We enjoyed learning about their smoking process and seeing the food prepared in house/on grounds was wonderful. And those desserts!!! The cake pictured was only one slice!! Sure it’s a little pricey but it’s more than filling and enough to feed a large family. We tried the brisket, ribs, Mac & cheese, loaded potato, collard greens, fries, cornbread muffins, fried chicken, burnt ends, mashed potatoes, and strawberry cake….all DELICIOUS.

It's a cross between a mouth watering BBQ restaurant and a soul food restaurant! Our first visit and my husband and I shared the Express special with 3 meats and 2 sides. St. Louis Ribs, fried chicken liver and Burnt Ends were the meats. We had cornbread salad and collard greens as sides. We also had an appetizer of fried green tomatoes. Every single thing was one of the best tasting foods I can remember eating! It's a little pricey, but the portions are HUGE! I meant to get a hunk of homemade cake to talked home and I forgot. 🤪 We will definitely be returning to try more good southern cooking!

Stopped by on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the smell when entering was enticing. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by Tony. He explained all the options and selection. We ordered a two meat dinner. Brisket was melt in your mouth tender and the flavor was incredible, don’t you dare put sauce on it! Fried chicken was crispy and juicy. The bbq beans could be a meal on their own, I actually put mine on the yummy corn muffin. Actually a corn muffin with bbq beans should be an option 😉. Also had the green beans which were delicious with just a touch of onion. Portions were great for sharing. Tony Gore’s is awesome 🤩

We had the dinner specials. Great food! Fast ordering through the line. No table service, they have free drink refills. (Sign says employees are paid well enough, no need to tip. If you tip, it goes to underprivileged children and their families.) Stop by and enjoy your meal.

We've seen this place several times as we often vacation here but today we finally had a chance to stop and eat. The food was great. Atmosphere is what you would expect of a BBQ joint. The smell of the smokers outside are amazing, especially when you're inside and someone walks through the front door. The cafeteria style selection allows you to see what good home cooked food you will be having. The menu options offer a variety as well. The triple loaded serial cut potatoes were amazing! I highly recommend but for at least two people as me and my wife didn't finish them. We will definitely be coming back on a future trip.

Don't let it fool you, it looks like an old BBQ shack on the outside but the inside is gorgeous! We stopped on the way back to SC to get a bite to eat, and boy was it well worth it! The staff was super helpful and friendly. I got the brisket, Mac n cheese, and mashed potatoes. My husband got the half rack of ribs, and they were so tender he could barely pick them up! All of the sauces were delicious, couldn't decide which one to buy to take home! We will definitely return when we come back!

Hands down the best bbq in the area. Tony has been doing it right for a long time, I’ve been a patron for 13 years now and I won’t eat bbq anywhere else. We always get a mix of food and share, and we always have to take some sauce home. Don’t listen to the Debbie downers and the nay-sayers. They got it wrong. It’s worth the price, it’s worth the experience.
