Great home made food hidden in the foothills. You can walk off your meal by walking on the path next to the diner. There is a lot of beautiful vegetation in this hidden Valley

The worst part of giving this place a good rating is that more people will go there. The food & service is top notch. It's the gem of the San Gabriel Valley.

Really cute, funky place. Breakfast is awesome. Lunch was a bit on the slow side but worth the wait. Salads are huge. Friendly staff.

It's the closest thing to a small town cafe in SGV.

Pro Tip: If you can carpool, do it. This place is nearly impossible when it comes to parking. People even double-park behind other customers or the residents whom live there. This charming little eatery has been operating since 1922, though it's changed ownership since the original. It's a single business tucked away into the woods where the rest of the neighborhood is residential and the roads are narrow. I believe this used to be a resident in which the original owner converted the front house into a market and cafe, which is why it's so out of place. This place is quite a hidden gem at the base of the mountains. I only found it because of Yelpers (yeah, go Yelp community!) when I was looking for a spot close to my girlfriend that morning to meet up for breakfast. Mary's Market is adorable. It's kind of all over the place in terms of decor- it's a combination of kitschy, vintage-inspired, whimsical and totally eclectic. You feel welcome the moment you step into the cafe. The employees are nice, helpful and knowledgable about the food and menu. The pictures speak for themselves. There are flowers upon flowers everywhere, mini fairy gardens and homegrown herbs, fruits and veggies on the property. The food is pretty good but the savory stuff is a little too salty for me (I'm not big on sodium). You order right when you walk in and pay there. Drinks are self-serve, nothing fancy- either bottled drinks or you get a mug where you go to the coffee station and DIY. There is table service for the rest of your meal. There is outdoor seating both at the front entrance as well as the back of the restaurant because there are not that many tables inside. I hope to go again soon. It was a very pleasant first experience. I couldn't stop taking photos.

Just THE best...the food and the experience. This authentic piece of Americana is nestled in the canyon of the sweet village of Sierra Madre. Run by two creatives - women who greet you like you are a long lost friend. Bring your kids to enjoy the vintage toys and delicious food. Mary’s market was an actual market owned by a woman named Mary decades ago I would go there as a child. Just sweet. A great weekend experience.

When we arrived we thought that this wouldn't be a great place but am so glad we stayed and ate. It's in a stunning area, very cool and shaded. The place itself is very basic, almost a canteen type feel. But once you are inside, the friendliness of the staff overwhelms you. They were lovely. You have to order food at the counter, but then they bring your order to you. Coffee condiments are self serve, tables are covered in brown paper. All of this doesn't give you hope for a great breakfast. But the food when it arrived was wonderful and fresh and delicious. It wasn't oversized or fried. It was beautiful fresh food cooked really well. The Benedict was the best we have had in USA. And the poached eggs was great.
