I've only been there a half dozen times.... but...... The Brisket is first rate Pulled Pork top notch Cheesecake to die for Fast friendly service... gets crowded at lunchtime (a good indication) and I can squeeze in a good 100 mile motorcycle from Raleigh (only 60 miles if you go in a straight line,,,but i don't)

Risin' Smoke catered our store lunch today and it was fantastic. The pork was tender and juicy and the brisket melted in your mouth. I can recommend every one of the sides and the hushpuppies are the best I've ever had. By popular demand, I'll be using them to cater all of my company events.

Good experience. Drove from Richmond to check them out. We had brisket and ribs, smoked chicken and Turkey. Everything was tasty especially the RIBS! The ribs were worth the drive! The best!! BBQ sauce was excellent too. Had oreo cheese cake, which I didn't need, that was very good too. We will be back with some friends. Thanks!

We really enjoyed the ribs and the brisket. There was so much that we ended up taking a lot home. The article we read made it sound like fast food in a gas station. There was plenty of seating, a friendly staff, and a huge menu. Reasonably priced. It is definitely worth the stop.

6 of us rode our motorcycles up from Raleigh. Big portions of authentic BBQ, including pork, beef, chicken. It's small with limited seating but well worth the effort to eat there.

Excellent customer service, very friendly and helpful...Went over the entire menu with us on our first visit. The food is fresh, delicious and the desserts are out of this world. I've tried the Raspberry Chocolate Cheesecake and Chocolate Chess Pie....So many to choose from. My next dessert will be the Peanut Butter Pie! Great menu, something for everyone even if you don't like BBQ!

Amazing Barbecue. I thought I was in Memphis. The Brisket is the best I have ever had in a restaurant. You will be too full for pie, so take some home with you. Thanks Jeff for one of the best places to eat in South Hill.

Hole in the wall with great service and food! Everything is made here! Brisket is good, a little too much grease. Mac&cheese, perfect. Potato salad, good. Bathrooms are clean. Get dessert also homemade! Only have a few tables, but also have old-time lunch counter & couple outdoor tables if weather is nice. It's in an old gas station and lots of memorabilia inside. I love stopping here when traveling thru the area! Not far off I-85 and way better than fastfood.

Man (wheat alergy friendly) You've struck gold if you come to this place. I believe that this is the Best Smoked Chicken east of the Mississippi River. If you're road trippin and want to get some true deep south cooking. This place is for you. Everything is southern cooking down to the bone. It's gonna have you crawling back for more like a hamster on the wheel with peanut butter hanging all over the place. My only regret for coming to this place is that I didn't order more of the catfish. I Catfished myself by not ordering more catfish. Shame on me. This kitchen puts Yankee cooking to shame. As it should. Quit the indecisive search and bring your hungry stomach down to this place. I would've taken more pics of the food, but the food hid too fast.....it simply hid..... in my stomach!!!!!!!!!!!! Close your phone now and eat here i tell you!

We love stopping at this jewel. Family ran home cooking that will knock your socks off. We do a lot of motorcycle rides up that way, and my stomach makes me stop each time. The staff are very cool and make sure you're taken care of. I will stop here every time Im up that way from raleigh Riding harley davidsons. The BBQ I will state right now is the best in this area, if not the whole state. 😋

This place has the BEST brisket I have ever consumed. I poked it with my plastic fork and it just fell right apart, it was...an experience. The cheesecakes too were something special, especially the Blackberry White Chocolate (my partner adored his brownie bite cheesecake as well). Also, I adore the space. It was once a gas station convenience store and the atmosphere is so cool. I live 1.5 hours from here and I will drive back specifically to eat more brisket.

Sustains: Hushpuppies were amazing, not too dry and perfectly crispy on the outside. The mac and cheese was great, traditionally made. Improves: Baked beans were alright, but a little too sweet. The brisket had a great flavor to it, but the cut was on the fattier side.

I love this place and been coming for the last 5 yrs. On our way to the campground it is a MUST to stop, pig out, and get the pie to-go. This is the best smoked ribs in VA so far and the people make it extra special. Do not expect a fancy restaurant setting. It is a refurbish gas station and it is comfortable to sit, rest and eat. All you need is at the table. Fridays are rush hour so be patient and you will get pupping hot food. I always have ribs but they say their chicken sandwich is superb and also the brisket.

The large plate is enough for one person, now and later. The baked beans and macaroni and cheese are delicious. The BBQ is tasty and tender, and even better with their vinegar sauce.

The food is wonderful, especially the beef brisket, hushpuppies, and homemade desserts. It's probably the friendliest staff I've ever met, and they were very helpful with explaining the different items on the menu. The prices are so reasonable. This is now our favorite BBQ spot.

Meat! This BBQ Brisket is melt in your mouth goodness. Served with North Carolina Vinegar sauce on the side of course.Hidden gem in a gas station. They were out of the ribs but that just leaves us something to look forwatd to next time. Mark this one on your maps. 4 piggys! #destination thisway

Great food and atmosphere, you will receive a warm welcome and pleasant smiles as soon as you walk in. Homemade sides and delicious meats 🍖. I recommend the Homemade light BBQ sauce that's my favorite and must have the hush puppies.

Risin' Smoke Barbecue has an excellent selection of meats, sides, and desserts! We both ordered the beef brisket plates which have the option of two sides and hush puppies or a roll. The brisket is great by itself or with their bbq sauce. The sides are just as great as the brisket! We tried the mac and cheese, fried okra, and baked beans - all were excellent! For dessert, I tried the Oreo cheesecake which was delicious! A great bbq spot!!
