The positive reviews really had me fooled. My food lacked any decent flavor. The chicken tasted like rot. The curry was nothing more special than colored water- just awful. Pad Thai was majorly depressing and disgusting. The rice was mushy. This was a take-out order and after a couple of bites we tossed the food in the trash.

I moved to Spokane a year ago and have tried all the this places now. (I love Thai Food) This was the last place for me to try because they are take out only. Based on the google reviews I was excited to try it so I ordered my standard Pod Kee Mow (Drunken Noodles). These are supposed to be made with wide rice noodles and vegetables. What I got had almost no vegetables and something different for noodles. Disappointed - Won't wast my time here again. Sry

Being a Seattle native, I would argue that I know what Phad Thai should be. Phad Thai from here was very flavorful. It’s a pretty good balance of sweet and savory. They use thin rice noodles which are not typical but work well once you get past what your expecting for noodle width. Beware, I ordered a zero in spice as a baseline because of what others have said. A zero here is close to a typical 3 star. I would also say that while it wasn’t dry, it wasn’t saucy either. I’d go back.

The authenticity of the food could some improvement. The pad see eew might be better served with khanna (Thai kale) instead of broccoli, and with a bit thicker sauce.

Ordered delivery, was missing food, disappointed that the curry doesn't come with rice, wrong meat was in the curries. The curries still tasted really good but I would have liked the food I had ordered.

Order Chicken Pad Thai and the Spring Rolls. Food was made quick and it was a good price to what you got.
The food wasn't so great. Pad Thai seemed like it was spaghetti noodles, it was super dry, and way over spiced for a 2 out of 5⭐.
I had hoped to find fresh rolls but they only had Spring Rolls. These were just moosh on the inside. The were nice and crispy though. There also wasn't enough sauce for the number of rolls you got.

I would dare say this is the best Pad Thai in Spokane. We had a pretty big order for the office and the owners had it ready for us right when they opened, and helped me carry it all out to my car. It was all perfectly packaged and tasted amazing!! They also accommodated our gluten free and vegan eaters as well without hesitation!

One of the best Thai restaurants in Spokane. The food is fresh and prices are reasonable.

Love this place! I can't believe it isn't constantly packed; there should be a line out the door. For ten years I've been basically addicted to their panang chicken; it is simply amazing. That said, the decor isn't all it could be and I do wish that they were open for more hours. But if I ever met the owners I would just say thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I started cooking Thai food over a decade ago after falling in love with their food and not being able to afford it very often as a college student. They published a recipe in the Inlander and I read it and then I had the confidence to try cooking Thai and other food myself. Writing this is making me salivate so much I think I need to run over there right now and get my fix of delicious!

LOVE 'EM...Best Thai in Spokane. We've dined at numerous Thai restaurants around Spokane and still feel this one has the VERY BEST Thai food. We generally take our orders to go but, dine in from time to time. Quality and quantity are exceptional. The staff are so friendly and helpful when we're needing explanations or special requests.

Very friendly service and very very yummy! Spiceness level is authentic, so if you are a whimp like me don't go higher than a 2!

Best Thai in Spokane. Full disclosure: my office is across the street, so I eat here a lot. Even in the relatively small downtown core that Spokane has, there are plenty of similarly-priced lunch options, though, and Thai on First is consistently our go-to, which speaks to both the variety on the menu and the consistently high-quality of the food.

The spice level on the food is quite high (it can be a shock for small-town palates expecting maximum stars to have minimal bite), but once you figure out that a 4* at most other area Thai restaurants is equivalent to about a 2* here, you're golden... and you'll be better able to taste the excellent dishes you've ordered!

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the E1 (beef, bok choy and mushrooms), but everything I've tried here, from the curries to the soups to the various noodle dishes has been fantastic. Their Phad Thai is more "dry" than the vinegar-y, soupy Phad Thai that you get at Bangkok Thai, but it's excellent and I'd almost guarantee that you'll be taking some home for later.

I'll admit that sometimes their hours are a little wonky, and that there's something both charming and alarming about the minimalist decor, but I cannot say enough good things about this hole-in-the-wall place. It's clean, the staff are always more than helpful and nice, and the food is brilliant.

Best Thai in town. My wife had previously worked at a Thai restaurant here in town. We tried many places and love the food here. The restaurant is clean and peaceful. Our kids love the pad Thai with no stars. If you don't like this place you don't know good Thai food. The flavors are amazing. If spice isn't your thing then order no stars. You shouldn't miss out on this great food because you prefer no heat in you food.

Not the best I've ever had... I've recently moved back to the area and was taken here for dinner the other night. I ordered the Pad Thai, being my favorite dish, with a 1* spice level. Now lets be honest here, when you go to a restaurant that offers custom spice levels, normally they don't put any spice in at all. So ordering a safe 1 out of 5, 5 being the hottest, expectations of the dish being spicy is very low. Right? Wrong. Although the flavors were delicious, my mouth was on fire. I'm not the biggest fan of heat in my food, it makes it less enjoyable in my opinion. Thankfully I will know for nexus time to order a 0*. What did strike me as odd was the presentation. I've never seen Pad Thai in a dark brown sauce. It looked like worms in a pasty, dirty brown sauce mixture. Although the dish was good, minus all the spice, I'm not sure this place gets my thumbs up. I might have to come again to get a solid decision.

Consistently excellent. Thai on First has the same decor it had in the late 1990's. Thankfully, another thing has stayed the same; it's terrific food. It's food has stayed consistently excellent for years.

Spokane has a lot of bad Asian restaurants. There's a strange phenomenon that happens to Asian restaurants in Spokane. An Asian restaurant will get a following and then systematically dumb down it's menu and then go down hill in quality. I've seen it happen several times. Thankfully, it hasn't happened at Thai on First.

The service is good and friendly. It's one of my favorite Thai restaurants.

Wonderful, flavorful chicken and beef salads and yummy curry although "spice level 2" was a bit too hot for me. Owner (or owner's son?) was very pleasant to chat with. Also had beautiful colored plates that made the already colorful food look even prettier. Will definitely return on my next trip to Spokane.

Pretty Good. This place was pretty good overall.

The atmosphere is kinda weird. Partially due to the space being huge with a lot of weird rooms off to the side that have couches and a tv (I dunno, just seemed weird and not very cozy to have half a restaurant with random sized/furnished rooms). They also had huge bamboo style umbrellas over the tables; it was a good look, but made dining at those tables very dark as the only lights in the place were being blocked by the umbrellas. Thankfully not pretentious or trying to be too hip, just a bit awkward.

The food was solid. Nothing amazing. It's my second favorite Thai I've had in the area, but is at least consistently good, just not the kind of place I crave again the next day/week. It's not as good as my favorite place, Phonthip up on Francis, but when I don't want to make the trek North, I have no qualms at all about Going to Thai on 1st.

Great Thai. My favorite Thai place in town, well anywhere really. Always hard to find a great one, but these guys are awesom. Chan and Nick are very friendly and have made me special dishes that were rocking. Once a week at least!

Pretty darn good Thigh food.. The interior is nothing spectacular but the dishes were quite tasty. Went a few times, upping the spice level each time until I made a clown out of myself with too much spice. Big fan of the lunch plates.

ONLY based on the curry (green) it is not my favorite in town. It was a bit too runny for my taste, and Just wasn't as good as Linnies. I will still go back though to try their other options.

Born again fan. I never thought much of the place until recently. My friend has become a full-blown addict and has now converted me. Hallelujah. Great food, prompt and friendly service, plus bonus points for trying to pass off patio umbrellas as Asian decor.

The best Thai in Spokane. I was doing some work downtown and got the privilege of eating at Thai on 1st three times in one week (once for lunch, twice for dinner). They still have the best/authentic Thai Food in Spokane or surrounding areas. Everything we sampled our group sampled on the menu was excellent and prepared very similar to the food I eat in Thailand. Remember that they are authentic so if you order a 3, you are ordering a Thai 3 not a Spokane 3.

If you have only eaten at Americanized Thai places (or places that use Americanized ratings) this would be an appropriate.
If you order a 3 in Spokane try a 1
If you like 4 get a 2
If you like 5, 3 is probably good
If you add spice to your 5 get a 4

However they are slipping in the decor department, several booths are ripped and in need of repair and the menus need to be wiped down. And I will agree that their hours of operation are rather frustrating but I'll work around the hours just fix the fabric in the booths.

SIDEBAR: Another poster rated this restaurant as two stars because it didn't conform to their idea of what Thai food is. they mention that they ordered Larb Gai and wanted lettuce leaves to wrap the chicken with - sorry that's PF Changs Asian fusion NOT THAI. If I was served lettuce leaves with Larb Gai I would knock a star off for NOT being authentic. They also complained that it didn't come with "sauces" - again Larb Gai doesn't come with sauces, all the ingredients should be mixed in the chicken. Again just because PF Changs is loosely based Asian fusion chain restaurant, they are not Thai and authentic Thai restaurants don't serve dipping sauces with Larb Gai. I'm not trying to pick on the person in particular but I find annoying that people will rate down a authentic restaurant because it doesn't conform to the Americanized version they were first exposed to.

Do yourself a favor and try Thai on First if you wish to have an authentic Thai meal.

Not too bad. Smiling waitress but useless;(, Too spicy. My daughter burned her lips. They don't care about it. Rice is not included with soups or curries.

Always Great!. Have been going to Thai on First since it was the old Thai Cafe across the street. Consistently the best Thai food in Spokane - and I've tried them all! Great service, love this place! The Pad Thai is fantastic - not too much fish sauce like some places make it. Also - the spring rolls are the best in town - hands down! My husband loves the Tom Kha Gai soup. You won't be disappointed!

Best pad thai!. I've been going here for years and they have hands down the best pad thai. great for take out or dining in, the staff is always friendly and attentive. i wish it was open later so i could grab a late night dinner more often!

This is the best Thai food in Spokane. The owner is really cool and is fun to chat with. Best Pad thai and peanut sauce around. Eat thai here!

I love this place. I love Thai on First, have gone to them since their old location when they were the Thai Cafe. They are the only place that believes we actually want spicy food when we order 4 and 5 star. *** If you don't like spicy food, then order 1 star or even half star here! When I order 4 or 5 star at the other places I've been to in Spokane, they give me Thai on 1st's equivalent of 2 star ***
My kids love #35 (noodles with broccoli, choice of meat, and a slightly sweet soy sauce), and of course the Chicken Sate. My favorites are their Larb Gai (lethal on 5 star), Hot & Sour soup, and all their curries esp. C2 (pork/pineapple/peanuts/red curry) and the green curry with peas and eggplant - I like it with chicken but my family likes it with shrimp.
