Reviews Thai Ghang Waan

We tried the tofu drunken noodle, chicken basil fried rice, and cashew chicken. Among these dishes, the cashew chicken stood out as our favorite. It had a delightful resemblance to the traditional general chicken, but with an extra crispiness that we absolutely adored. Not to mention, the portion size was quite generous. The drunken noodle, which we usually go for at Thai restaurants, was good as always. However, the fried rice was just okay; it lacked a bit in the salt and flavor department. All in all, we'd definitely come back for that yummy cashew chicken.

Love how there was lots of parking. The inside was clean and the staff was nice. We ordered Satay Chicken, Green Curry Chicken, Pad Thai Ra Yong, Steak Thai Ghan Waan. We got our spice on the side so the kids could try as well. They were all very good. Great portion size. My only complaint would be that there should be more steak in the Steak Thai Ghan Waan. My family of 7 would definitely come back again.

I’m never disappointed here. There’s a different variety of Thai dishes that you won’t find in other restaurants. Flavors are very good and service as well. The atmosphere is relaxing and cafe-like with good service. This time my wife and I had crispy chive dumplings for an appetizer. I had the kua gling (delicious) and my wife had the crispy pork belly and Chinese broccoli. First, it’s great that there’s adequate parking. It’s a comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. I like that their menu options include other things you don’t find in other Thai restaurants. Both my wife and I had crispy pork belly and both were delicious. My wife went for Chinese broccoli while I had garlic. Both satisfied.

The taste of food is delicious. A lot of various traditional Thai food dishes to choose especially if you're a fan of local and street food style. I had tried Goong Chae Num Pla (Raw Shrimp Spicy Salad) and Moo Ping with sticky rice. They both are very popular dishes in Thailand. And I wasn't disappointed, Thai Ghang Waan did a good job. The flavor was quite authentic (the way I like). Only one thing I didn't give them 5 stars because the texture of food weren't quite cooked perfectly. It might be because I ordered for take out. Anyway, the staff was nice and polite. The restaurant is an average size for dining.

Wow - I had heard about this place from colleagues in the past, but had no idea that this gem of a restaurant located in an unassuming suburban neighborhood could be so good. I went recently with my partner and some friends who stated it was their favorite Thai restaurant in the DC area. I had the crispy pork belly and Chinese broccoli, as I always do, my partner had the crab fried rice, and we shared other plates which included Isan sausage, fried shrimp cake, beef noodles, and minced basil pork - all exceptionally delicious. The Isan sausage was plump and juicy, although I would prefer a little less rice in the blend, but still tasted almost like I was in Thailand. The crispy pork belly was crisp to a perfection, and the sauce on the Chinese broccoli was light but coated all the ingredients on the plate well. The beef noodles, which isn't a dish I normally order but my friend did and I am glad he did - were so scrumptious I am still thinking about them days later. This restaurant is totally authentic and an amazing find in Northern Virginia. If you're in the DC area and you love and crave authentic Thai food you must try this place! 5/5!

Tried this place for the first time and loved it! I got the ginger lover with chicken and it was so flavorful! Much more flavorful than at other Thai places I’ve tried. The ingredients tasted fresh and you got a good sized portion as well. Would definitely go back!

Excellent Thai food with very good wok hay. The portion for dine in is bigger than take out. They kind of cheap with the meat considering the price of the dish.

Got the cashew chicken as takeout over the weekend, and really enjoyed it. The dining room was pretty full when I came by, so I’d definitely get a reservation if you plan to come in person over a weekend. It took a little longer than the original time estimate, but the quality of food made up for it.

Walked in for dinner and was told we needed to make a reservation or we’d be seated at a table by the door, which we opted for instead. The restaurant was very busy with only a couple servers, however, we were promptly provided with drinks and order was taken in a timely manner. My cousin who’s a local recommended the lemon ginger iced tea for drinks, crispy pork belly dish (which comes with rice), and we shared the pad see ew, pad kra pow, and pad Thai. Everything tasted delicious and flavourful, with portion sizes being quite generous. The only thing to be mindful of is you need to ask for additional things like chili oil and hot sauce, as they don’t automatically provide it with the meal.

My wife and I live right by Brookfield plaza but we had never eaten here before. It’s a really small restaurant so it got packed up fast with customers. We ordered the pad Thai with crabmeat as well as the steak. Both were really tasty. Next time I would skip the crab meat (artificial) and just go with the cheaper original pad Thai. We finished off our meal with the mango sticky rice. Everything was good but portions were pretty small.

I ordered yum woonsen salad and green curry, both were good. The salad portion is quite small, but it costs $11, almost the same as the curry dishes. Probably the price of between $6-$8 would be reasonable. The service I received was not good at all. My baby was sleeping when we arrived there, so my husband stayed inside the car with him while I went to order the food first. When I came in, I asked to see the menu, and after ordering I told the waitress that I would go check if my husband wanted to come in now. But she told me she already put my order for to-go, if I wanted to dine in, I had to let her know beforehand. She didn’t even feel like she should apologize and get me a table instead. Also, she didn’t ask me how spicy I wanted, which it turned out the food was too spicy for my taste. Even though I like the food but probably never go back there.

The most flavorful Thai food we have had in a long time! Each of the 6 items we ordered was spot on! Great, attentive, friendly service too. We strongly recommend this place.

Would give them 4.5 … why can’t we 1/2 star? Food and service were both pretty good. Portion sizes are large. Half of everything went home with us. Tofu appetizer was enough for a meal. Green curry had lovely flavor and just enough heat. Good amount of chicken and veg. Pad something #34 had a little sweetness and was rather tasty. Tofu was good too.

Thai Ghang Waan is the best Thai place in NOVA. The food is always amazing, the service is consistently good, and the restaurant is very clean and well designed. The Pad See Ew with tofu is incredible. Highly recommend :)

My husband and I ate her Saturday night. We agree that this is the best Thai food in all of Alexandria. Their green papaya salad is by far, the best we've ever tasted outside of Thailand. In fact, we drink the leftover sauce, every bit of it. This is a darling little restaurant, with excellent food and wonderful service. Highly recommend!!

I love their basil fried rice- I get it every time I go there. For the month of October, they’ve been giving out candy because of Halloween- so cute! The prices are also pretty good for lunch I’d say. service is also good!

We tried the panang curry, tofu pad see ew, thai tea/coffee and curry puffs. All were excellent. The staff were very friendly and the service was quick. Excellent spot for lunch/dinner.
