I am currently not eating gluten, so I heard Black Walnut has gluten-free pancakes and decided to give it a try. It was so worth it.
I ended up having some regular waffles, but the gluten-free pancakes were more than acceptable.
I like this place better than IHOP.
Go for it!
I was looking for different place to have breakfast. The atmosphere here is fun. Modern and Comfortable with the touch of industrial. The line to order moved rapidly. The wait for the food was twice what they suggested I expect; however, the service was very friendly both when I ordered and when I inquired about my order.
I ordered the Frenchy breakfast . French toast was average but everything else was very good. The yellow corn grits were excellent. By far the best thing I had was the breakfast sausage. This was a Thursday late morning. By the time I left around noon it was full but the line had gone down. If you’re in the area I would definitely recommend it as an interesting place to try.
Café style dining is a good option when you want served in a hurry. Full service dining is best when you have a little more time to spare and want a better- prepared meal. Falling between these two is the service you receive at Black Walnut Café, an eatery in Sugar Land, Texas very close to the First Colony Mall.
I have been driving to this area of Sugar Land on a regular basis with my kids while they attend cooking classes/demonstrations and once they finish, we are almost always hungry. Black Walnut Café is a good choice during these times for two important reasons: Quick service and hours of operation. The service involves placing your order at the counter, then waiting for your buzzer to vibrate. You pick up your order at that time. If there is a large amount of food, one of the staff will help carry everything back to your table. This is a happy medium between the two options described above. And the hours of operation are excellent because this restaurant opens at 7 a.m. every day. When I’m in this area with my girls on Saturdays, they usually finish their class around 10:30 a.m. and at that time, Black Walnut is one of the few places open.
For food, Black Walnut serves a good selection of American foods like burgers, steaks, sandwiches, salads, and the like plus breakfast. I’ve had good luck with the pot roast, beef fajita tacos, grilled chicken croissant, and most everything else I have had when I dine here. They prepare the food with care and while the presentation and other factors could stand to be improved, the food is still better than average and priced more than fairly. They also have a kids menu for lighter appetites plus some tasty desserts.
Beverages at Black Walnut include pre- packaged drinks that you grab and pay for when you place your order. There are also self- service fountain soft drinks and coffee. Wine and beer are served, too. And if you feel like dining outside, there is a large area of outdoor seating. Unless the weather is just right, I would rather dine on the inside, not just for the climate control, but also because the inside looks nice and is very comfortable. The wood fixtures, plants, and large office- style sitting chairs are pleasing to the eyes and make you feel at home.
Black Walnut Café doesn’t have the accompaniments of a full service restaurant, but it is more than close enough and the speed of service and quality of food and drink make it worth a visit. It’s better than the food options inside the mall and during the early hours, it is often one of the first restaurants to open, making it perfect for those in search of an early meal. Pay a visit when in the area- you are almost certain to like the food and atmosphere at Black Walnut Café in Sugar Land.
I love going here because it's not only convenient but the food is great! They have tons of options for dessert and gelato, and the grilled cheese sandwich is delicious. The coffee is not very good except for the espresso which isn't too shabby.
$$$--soup & salad w/ shrimp and 2 iced teas=$25! Food was good but not worth the $$. Would return, just not too often.
Delicious! All their entrees are amazing here, and I especially love their chiptole chicken pepper pasta, and their soups are good too. Their pastries and gelato is okay, but their entrees are great!
I love coming here every chance I get! The food is very good I haven't picked one thing that I didn't like. I love the very chill atmosphere. Its a great place to meet up with friends or go on a date. Their sweet potato fries are very good I would say the best I have ever had.
Lovelovelove. The Black Walnut Cafe is a wonderful restaurant! I'm not from the Houston area, but my aunt lives in Sugarland. So, every time i visit or am in the area I make sure to visit this place! They have a wonderful variety of food and the dishes are superb every time I go! Also, they have wonderful gelato! love it! it is by far one of my favorite places to go in the area. The ambiance is nice as well. I love sitting in one of the comfy chairs and eating my food in this somewhat upscale but reasonably priced cafe(: and would highly recommend stopping in(:
Had a great dinner with friends. Reasonable prices and tasty food. The place is clean and classy.
When you come in, look at the menu and order, go find a table and wait for the food to be ready. You will need to pickup your food yourself from the counter, kinda like at starbucks. It's a hassel when you order a lot and the plates are extremely hot.
But otherwise great place to dine with friends.
Best kept secret in Houston :) just kidding! this place gets packed after 9 a m on a saturday morning! Amazing food and lovely concept and design. I keep coming back on weekends for brunch and even though its busy, i always get served fast and the workers are very pleasant and friendly always asking if we need anything and thank us for coming! The soup and salad combo is a great deal with added shrimp. And grits are amazing as well! We spent 33$ for two meals. Not bad at all and quality of the food is amazing. Keep it up BWC!
I love coming back here usually after shopping at the mall. They have a nice setting and great food. Usually you can catch people hanging out and chatting in the comfy seats. They have a friendly staff. You can eat inside or outside. I always like trying different things when I stop by.
Alway delicious fresh foods here. The fajitas omelettes is nicely season, with tender fajitas beef and bell peppers and onion with some melted cheese!! Very yummy and every order to make so alway hot and delish. Must try when you are around the 1st colony mall!!
I love the location of this cafe. It’s so convenient and the atmosphere is pretty cool too. I recommend their build your own omelet. I didn’t like the pancake (go to IHOP for pancakes:). The side potatoes had onions in it which it doesn’t say on the menu, so couldn’t eat those as well.
I had the smoked salmon Benedict, it was pretty good! The yolks of my poached egg was almost the consistency of a thick custard though. Their blended frappe has probably been one of my favorites.
Black walnut serves breakfast, lunch and dinner options from salads to sandwich to desserts and fresh orange juice .You place your Ofer at the counter and you are given a buzzer to alert you when your order is done.Lots of seating area .Delicious meals and nice wait staff.
My favorite meal is the Cobb salad
I googled places to eat breakfast and this restaurant popped up. Never heard of it but the reviews seemed promising. Well, they didn't lie. The food was so delicious! Now if the breakfast was that good, I can only imagine the dinner so we do plan on visiting again.
Good food, good service, and good atmosphere! I liked that they had a few vegan options on the menu for people that don't eat meat. 😁 Nice restaurant!
The chicken was thick and juicy. The crust was just right on the texture. Vegetables we're tender and flavorful, no burnt tasting. The mashed potatoes were a tad bit dry, I know it's subjective. The artichokes we're good as well. So overall presentation and taste was worth the price.
