I went here once, long ago when they were in the old location and had been meaning to go back. Now that my son works here, it was high time. We had a table of five and everyone enjoyed their meals. We ordered: shrimp and grits, the Cajun sampler, kids' nuggets, a burger, and a shrimp po boy, respectively. Everything was great! I really liked how the shrimp and grits had a cream sauce mixed in and large chunks of sausage. Really well done. Good service, lots of employees present to help, and a cool space. We also took cookies to go, which I highly recommend! We will definitely be back.
We’ve been wanting to go here for a while and finally made it for a quick dinner. The first thing we noticed is it’s a little dirty. The floor is a little sticky and our table and bench wasn’t very clean. However, our server was very nice. She seemed a little new but her kindness made up for it! Our food was excellent. We ordered Alligator bites for an appetizer which was served to us mid way through our meal, the Cajun sampler and a Cajun pasta. The food was all excellent! Id definitely recommend stopping in and giving them a chance despite it not being super clean.
We weren't sure what to expect when we visited Coosh's, but we were pleasantly surprised. The base decor on the inside is maybe a bit drab, but when you look up, college football flags are everywhere. There seating inside and outside and small bar one could sit at. We noticed this place seems to have good customer and employee interactions as there were a few groups that were greeted like friends. I can't really say I've seen that anywhere else in Tallahassee!
Now, on the experience. Our server was phenomenal, gave us plenty of time to look over the menu, and provided excellent recommendations for both food and drink. He was attentive and asked for refills appropriately. So much so that when we were taking in the scene of the restaurant, he came to make sure nothing was wrong. I wish I could remember his name, but I lost my receipt.
In terms of food, both my husband and I were astonished with how flavorful our dishes were. The chicken and Sausage Gumbo was seasoned and came with a side of bread. He got the smaller size, and it was perfect for dinner. I got the jambalaya pasta. The portion size for that is HUGE, and you could possibly split it with someone if you're bad with leftovers. The star of that dish was the Cajun smoked sausage and put the chicken to shame. The chicken wasn't bad by any means. There's just no way to compete with that sausage. The fries were the most disappointing, but I got them subbed for the salad. They're thicker crinkle cut fries with some seasoning salt. They did taste better dipped in the Gumbo sauce.
My only real complaint is that some parts of the sausage in both dishes tasted more smoky than others. But even then, it paired ok.
Overall, we will be back. This gave us comfort food vibes and we look forward to trying Coosh's again in the future!
This place is a Tallahassee Gem. Walking in the dining room and seeing 10+ years of Tallahassee Bests plaques gives you an idea you picked the right place. This place wasn't here when I grew up. But we stumbled in here just to try the lunch one day and were blown away. I thought I had reviewed this place back then, but realized I hadn't so I don't have pictures from that visit but I can definitively tell you Entrees are incredible. Shrimp and Grits was excellent. 2 things will stick out in todays inflated world. Food is still excellent and the servings are huge. Bring a huge appetite or enjoys leftovers for at least 1 extra meal and maybe 2. Pictures below are from Sunday Brunch which I cannot possibly recommend more. It is more of a eat and go home and nap. But it is so good, we hit it up on the way out of town and grab a coffee for the drive. I love biscuits and sausage gravy and this is one of the few places left that actually still puts sausage in it. We are not talking a fine cut where you are unsure there is sausage. We are talking rough cut like you made it at home and you are thinking, lets put a little extra cause I love sausage in my gravy. My wife and I both ended up ordering the same dish with eggs, home fries, and biscuits and sausage gravy. I couldn't finish and she eat her fill and didn't even look like she had dented the plate.
Wanted to try this place. I'm from South Mississippi and New Orleans food is like home too me. Only disappointment was you only had pork boudin balls and I was really hoping for crawfish. Oh tad bit pricey on the appetizers too. Food was great and so was the service.
First time here, won't be the last. Babushka doesn't do spicy, so the choices were limited, but they sounded so good! Ordered The Osceola salad with the dressing on the side. BUENISIMO! The rest of the party had gumbo and the shrimp and grits, everyone was happy and satisfied. Give it a try, it really did have that NOLA vibe.
I had been here one time before, several years ago but I never wrote a review. So here it is now.
It was great! The portions of food were large and I felt like there was good value for the money. The staff was polite and friendly too. Out party sat outside, so I cannot comment too much how thr atmosphere was inside, but it seemed nice. Everyone (including myself) enjoyed our food :)
I'd you like Cajun food, give it a shot!
Awesome, as always.
If you like Cajun food and feeling like you are in a NOLA restaurant, you'll love it at Coosh's.
Went for Fat Tuesday. $5 Hurricane drinks. They didn't taste like they were made from a syrupy mix. Quite yummy. I had Jambalaya Pasta and cup of Gumbo. Tasty.
Coosh's is great! I love the laid back atmosphere with their super friendly staff and different sports to pick from on each TV. The food is excellent, as well (the crinkle fries are the BEST). If you're looking for some good Cajun food or even just a fun place to hang out and watch the game, definitely check this place out.
I love to eat at Coosh's! Everything I've had is yummy. I lived in the New Orleans area and honestly, the food here is better than most of the restaurants there (outside of home cooks). I love their étouffée and my husband loves their gator po'boy. Definitely recommend them to everyone who likes or wants to try Cajun food.
Delicious and well worth the prices. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for southern/ creole style food. The shrimp and grits was out of this world and the drinks are great. Can't say enough good things about this restaurant. (This was also my first time coming and our waitress was phenomenal, A+ customer service)
Tasty.. Big portions.. Better Cajun food then most of New Orleans. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. Server was super helpful and nice.. You have the choice to be in the loud tv area.. Or the peaceful deck . We will go back
Food was awesome, my dad loved the salad. They do have a kids menu but it's not advertised.. they have burgers, chicken strips and a few other things. The service was great, the food came out very fast. I recommend the sampler, that way you get to try a few different ones. I definitely would return.
Ordered the beignets to start and they are huge. Perfectly fried and delicious. My wife says the shrimp and grits are the best she has ever had, and she has had a lot of them around Tallahassee. Smothered chicken is great and a huge portion. Half to go with a half order next time.
We wanted a place to watch the FSU game that was not in the close vicinity so that it would be more laid back. We spent several hours at Coosh’s and we basically grazed our way through the menu….. Gator, voodoo shrimp, wings, atchafalaya soup, nachos and Captain Al were all delicious. Sorry we didn’t take pictures. We arrived during the day shift and stayed through the shift change, so we had the pleasure of having both Emily and Anna take care of us. The service was excellent and they were great during our entire visit. We will be back whenever we are back in the area. Thanks for a great time! Go Noles!
