During a visit to Tampa, I saw the smoke. I smelled the food. And I was hungry! I stopped into BJ's Alabama BBQ with hopes of consuming some "backyard" family bbq! They did not disappoint! Not only was the customer service over-the-top, but the food was hot, good amount and tasted great. If you're in the area and want a good BBQ spot without all the drama of a chain restaurant, I'd highly recommend you check out this spot. I'll definitely be back!
I have to say, what a find. Excellent food, great service. This place as been around for 3 decades, my only regret is I didn't find it sooner. I will for sure return. Thanks BJ's for the great real smoked BBQ.
I had visited here in July and let me tell y'all something, this is best barbacue I've had in a long while! I got myself a pork sandwich, corn on a cob, cornbread, and coleslaw, and everything tasted wonderful! The women here are also very friendly and lively! They really bring a lot of joy into the place! Go ahead and get yourself some good barbacue from here! 😋👍
In town and we heard about this place so, we decided to check it out. They did not disappoint! This family owned business served up some of the best ribs we’ve had in a long time. They were so tender and Smokey! Potato salad, collards and Mac were equally delicious as well. If you’re looking for some good bbq, this is it.
Our first visit and we were NOT disappointed!! A family owned business for decades, they treat everyone coming in like they're family. With simple, unpretentious surroundings, the bottom line is that the food is fresh, the prices fair, and the servings ample. You will NOT go away hungry! These are good people who deserve your business!! If you like BBQ the old fashioned way, make note of when they're open and check them out! As for my wife and I, we'll be back soon!
Best BBQ I've ever had! Do not pass this place up. The family that runs this 35+ year establishment welcomed us warmly and feed our stomachs and souls.
We got a little of all the meats, chicken, brisket, ribs, sausage and beef - all of it was amazing- the sauce is a tangy vinegar based gem.
For sides we got the slaw, beans and yams - usually not a huge sides person but they held up as delicious as the meat and I went for seconds.
Portions are huge and my husband can eat so that's saying something.
Eat here you will not be disappointed.
I went in today for the first time and told them it was my first time coming here and it was for take out for Michelle and this is the taste I was looking for! I ordered a full slab with half chicken all white meat, bbq beans and potato salad and it was amazing! I found my BBQ place and everyone was so nice and they shared with us their take over and hope they are making their grandparent proud. They are definitely making him proud 💜🦋
Having lived in both Alabama and Georgia for several years, I can honestly say that this is some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Staff were the ideal of true Southern hospitality, and unlike most places, the sides were incredible. We’ll be regulars here!
We were in town visiting from Jersey and came across this joint on the way to our Dinner 😂 We saw the smoke outside and made a sharp right! This place was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! Everything we ate was incredible- especially the potato salad! My daughter devoured the chicken and rice 😀 I wish I could give this family owned restaurant more than 5 stars! The customer service, hospitality and food was all 5+ stars!
First time here and already can’t wait to come back. The service was awesome- not only do they cook great food, they treat you like family. Large portions, variety and the price is very reasonable.
And my gosh does it smell amazing!! Can they make a wax melt that smells like their BBQ for my house?!?
This place was amazing! Some friends and I did a "BBQ Crawl" in Tampa. Out of the 5 places we went, this was the best. Everything we ate was so good. Everything! Ribs, sausage, pork, mac, beans, GREENS! cornbread, sweet potato pie. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The hospitality was top tier. Staff was very inviting and friendly. Reasonably priced. Living in St Pete, BJ's is definitely worth the trip over the bridge. We will be back.
Found this place by chance when we were down in South Tampa. FINALLY a place that knows what type and how to cook sausage! The ribs were tender fall off the bone good. The ladies working there were super friendly. It was hot in the dining room but eating BBQ isn’t exactly a 3 hour long meal so…. We will definitely be back to eat more sausage and try their pork.
On my last day at Tampa decided to eat dinner here with my family. The second I walked in, my family and I felt welcomed. They are super friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing. I've been to several BBQ across the country, but nothing beats BJ's Alabama BBQ. The best part of the whole experience was the hospitality. I will definitely come back when I visit again. This will be my first stop.
It's definitely a southern atmosphere. Your mouth waters when you walk in. I knew it was going to be good when they brought it out on Styrofoam plates. I had the beef, ribs, and pork. Every single bite was enjoyable, the baked beans were to die for, the sauce was the perfect mix of sweet and heat. My 8 year old proclaimed this is her "favorite BBQ ever." The sweet tea is everything you could ask for on a hot summer day, and when they ran out, they outdid themselves with the homemade lemonade too. They have very reasonable prices and they gave my daughters Popsicles to fight off the Florida heat. We are here from Ohio, but if I'm in the area again, there is no doubt we will be coming back. Hats off to the BJs crew and we appreciate the hospitality and amazing food! Keep being great at what you do!

Hands down one of the best BBQ I've had!!! First time experience here and we ordered the everything platter just to get a taste of all the meats they offered with two sides of baked beans and potato salad. All the meats were juicy and delicious. The sausage was perfect. Not to salty and the spices were just enough that you could tastes the flavors . The chicken was smoky and succulent. The smoke was definitely the best part when biting into the chicken. Had the beef and the ribs and they were phenomenal. The ribs were juicy and held themselves firm to the bone. I could eat a whole rack of ribs alone if I could. The beef looked dry but once you bite into it, it was juicy and tender. Give me a sandwich with just the beef and I'd walk away a happy man. Everything was finger lickin good 😋. I would say they did a phenomenal job cooking their meats. They kept it simple with the seasonings and with just 1 type of bbq sauce, it hit all the spots you would want in a BBQ. The individuals running this place were just as phenomenal. The work they put into this place from making the food to taking care of their customers makes me feel like I'm at home with family. I loved every bit of this place. And I forgot to mention their cornbread. As a person who personally doesn't like cornbread because they're always dry, this place nailed the cornbread. It was moist and left you wanting more after every bite. HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMING HERE FOR YOUR BBQ FIX!!!
The food was amazing! Glad we got stuck out to sea courtesy of Hurricane Idalia. We had a 12 hour layover so we stayed at South Tampa Hotel and Suites and were about 100 yards from BJ’s Alabama BBQ. The staff was so kind and nice. Being from Nashville, I know good BBQ. This is the real deal. It would be worth driving at least an hour to get some amazing BBQ.
Love at first bite, Best BBQ in town without a doubt! I’ve been coming to BJs every week for over a year. They are well worth the trip every time! It somehow gets better with each visit? Definitely give them a try! Everything is amazing but my favorite is the beef sandwich with potato salad and Mac n cheese!!! They treat everyone like they family, with a great atmosphere and great people!
