Amazing was meal. The beans have just a hint of heat to them & a Smokey flavor. The salsa has a Smokey flavor as well. We visited here in mid Aug & temp was perfect to sit outside . I had the Huaraches and my husband has the ribeye. Our total meal was $53 ( + a tip).

I got a quesadilla and my partner had chicken enchiladas Christmas style, and chips n salsa. The food was so good. The rice was unfortunately very dry and did not get eaten.. Best quesadillas I’ve had a in a long long time. The salsa was fresh and perfect spice level. Definitely recommend.

My wife and I stopped by on the way home on a Sunday night. Once we found it (look towards the end of the shopping center on the right) we got in pretty quickly and sat inside. I will say the tables and chairs looked plain but the food was great! I had the Shrimp Cocktail and it came out like a bowl of soup (very surprising) but it was delicious with a slight heat to it that seemed to come from horse radish like you would expect in a shrimp cocktail dish. I also ordered fries on the side and they came out hot and crunchy, also tasting very good. My shrimp were fresh and crunchy and very good! My wife had the Calamari and it was also really well prepared! I believe the chips and salsa (hot) was home made and quite good!! I gave it a 4 star or atmosphere only because this food should be presented in a more upscale looking establishment. I can easily recommend Azteca for your meal!

Located in the back of the Plaza next to the church, it's a bit hidden but we'll worth the walk. Good atmosphere, wonderful fresh lemonade and fajitas! This Mexican restaurant is quite quaint and a fresh take on down town Taos. I've had fajitas in other restaurants but these were tastier and had good flavor. Tacos were yummy too! The chips were delicious and crispy! I enjoy those better with refride beans rather than guac, but to each his own... Parking is ok right infront of the restaurant, availability may vary though depending on the time of day....

Let's get right to the point - the food here was excellent. Everything we ordered, especially the tres leches cake, was delicious. The portions were plentiful and the spice level was just shy of being too spicy. Excellent. I ordered the relleños with the mole sauce. While the sauce was flavorful and delicately spiced, there was so much oil in it that the sauce broke and separated. Hardly a big deal - I still at it all happily. My only other criticism is that employees were eating in the same room, at the same time, as usual. There are plenty of rooms in this place, including outside dining. It would have been slightly more pleasant not to hear about their problems.

Sat outside on the beautiful patio. Our waiter was so kind yet professional. Ordered civiche and it was the best I've ever had. The steak fajitas were delicious. The atmosphere was casual without loosing its elegance. What a lucky find!!

Fist of all, let me start by saying that we were very happy to find out that they were open on Sunday, no too many restaurants are. it used to be a different restaurant in this building that I frequented every time I’was in town. (I visit Toes several times a year) it make me content that this new one makes some good food. The service was good attentive and quick, and like I said the food was pretty good, my friends dish was delicious, she order the pork huaraches, I was jealous! now regarding to my shrimp tacos; they were good but I wish I was informed that they were spicy, I barely finish them, they were good nonetheless. One thing though, the building is beautiful and they have a really cute courtyard I hope they get to make some improvements on it.

Great Mexican food in a relaxed environment. While we LOVED the food, their margarita tasted like margarita-flavored water.... Maybe it was just a bad day at the bar - we would definitely dine there again!

We came across this place driving through Taos. It’s tucked away on a corner behind the main city plaza. The menu was pricey, but the inside decor did not say, “Fine Dining.” Inside there were common tables and chairs like you would see in any small cafe, and the table setting consisted of a knife and fork rolled up in a paper napkin. Not what I would expect from a restaurant with $80 bottles of wine on the menu. There was art on the walls, some of which were unusual and with an Aztec motif. Also, regarding the menu, if you are vegetarian, the beans do not have lard in them, but the rice was cooked with chicken broth. My husband had a large shrimp cocktail that had nine shrimp in a very large glass of sauce that was unusual and delicious. Instead of the usual cocktail sauce, it was more like a gazpacho with cucumbers, onions, avocados and tomatoes. There was a hint of horseradish, but not too hot. We were surprised and delighted with the depth of flavor in this dish. I didn’t find anything that fit my usual vegan preference, so I had fried calamari. I used to love calamari but dread getting a rubbery, unchewable texture. This calamari was NOT rubbery at all. It was very well prepared and quite enjoyable. The chips, salsa and guacamole served were fresh. Chips not too oily. The flavors were very mild, which may make some people happy. It was a little bland for me. Overall, we enjoyed our variety of appetizers for dinner. Sorry, we didn’t order entrees or dessert. One thing that stood out, in addition to the special shrimp cocktail, was the generous portions of every dish. We found that three appetizers between us was very satisfying! Funny story, I visited the ladies room, and on the door inside the stall a sign read, “please don’t flush toilet paper in the toilet.” What???!!! Exactly how does that work? Luckily there was another stall with no such sign.

Had the burrito with shredded beef. Possibly one of the best burritos I’ve ever had, just great flavor and generous with the beef. It comes with rice and pinto beans. Would be nice to have a black bean option, but not available. I rate the food 5 stars. But the restaurant is dirty, lots of food and debris on the floor and window sill. We were there early in the day too, not like it was food that had collected over the course of a shift. One person in our party had a hair in this food too. Also, I was not offered a glass with my beer. Had to drink the beer from the can, no big deal. Service was fairly good otherwise.

This is one the best Mexican restaurants I've been doing Taos. I never forget to eat from here whenever I go to Taos. Based on my experience eating Mexican I think it's authentic. This is definite place to try when you visit Taos for a relaxing vacation. The staff is also very attentive.
