What a fun place to eat. The food was absolutely superb. A little noisy, but that was part of the ambiance. We tried many of the Tapa dishes. The lamb chops, Spanish shrimp and prawns were perfectly spiced and ever so tasty. One person tried the Gazpacho and thought it was better than anything he ever had in Spain. It was my husband's birthday...so all the diners were directed to spin their clothe napkins in the air and yell OLE OLE...what fun. If you are used to all the dishes arriving at your table at the same time...that is not how it works. It is assumed that you are sharing the Tapas, so they bring them right out when they are fresh and hot. This can be misconstrued as slow service. However, appears to be the norm in this extremely busy restaurant. If you are looking forward to Paella, you need to place your order 4 hours in advance for a party of 4. Having taken a Spanish Paella cooking class, I realize how important it is to plan this meal. Hope to try it the next time we visit. The Flamenco dancers were entertaining; the Spanish guitarist superb. Overall a great experience...
We did entrees instead of Tapas. The main course was exquisite, featuring perfectly cooked large prawns in a creamy garlic sauce that was light and infused with a satisfying depth of flavor. The flan also was amazing. I have to say that the service, however, was not quite on par with the food - neither attentive (scant-to-no refills on coffee,/tea/water, wrong orders, food not all out at approximately the same time) nor particularly gracious (welcoming - and I don't really like super intrusive/chatty wait staff styles). If the tip had not been included for our group at 20% (what we usually tip), I probably would have tipped slightly less than our usual as I expect a little more professional service at establishments where dinner runs $25/plate before drinks, salad, or dessert. That said, I enjoyed the food so much that I would probably go back and even consider renting their outdoor patio for an event because I care more about the food (kudos to the chef) than I do about the wait staff's level of proficiency. It was really, really delicious.
Fantastic tapas. Great service. Authentic food and staff members. The calamari was perfect. Quail eggs and caviar were divine. Back patio was pleasant. Continuous and impeccable timing on delivering the tapas plates as too not overcrowd the table.
Great atmosphere and great tapas. There are many, many, types of tapas you can choose from. No matter what you're in the mood for this place probably has a tapas dish that will hit the spot. Their tapas are served family style so order a few different dishes to share, maybe go outside your comfort level a little bit, and enjoy. Try one of their house margaritas while you're there too, you won't regret it.
Very authentic atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. They turned on their "festive" (ie Christmas lights that were still up) on the patio so our two kids could enjoy it. Also, get the cheese tostata appetizers. They're like mini Mexican pizzas. Kids/adults will love it.
I lived in Manhattan for most of my life and have taken two trips to Spain. I am quite familiar with the Tucson restaurant scene and Casa Vincente is the ONLY restaurant in Tucson that makes me feel I am back in New York or Spain. The food is very good. The entertainment can be excellent. The bartender really knows how to make a cocktail. Great atmosphere too! My only wish is that they would make a paella for two.
My favorite restaurant in Tucson. A friendly wait staff, magnificent menu items and the whole place exudes happiness.
Saying that, I have to add that I would skip the paella...for no reason more practical than it would be a waste to fill yourself up on rice when there are so many more flavorful things on the menu.
And that's just the thing...as a long time chef, a short time food critic and a life long food lover, I agree that the paella is less than stellar. However, when I read the bad reviews about it, it makes me think that the people complaining about it have no idea how to eat in a restaurant!
First, paella is (historically) a cheap, filling meal to feed a large group of people. It was intended to be a carb heavy food for a long day's labor. How are you going to jump online and bash a place after only eating THE CHEAPEST THING ON THE MENU!
Try the rabbit. Try the octopus. For the love of cooking, at least try the chicken! They are far above almost anything that you will find in town.
If you're not willing to try any of those and are just going to try the most overdone dish in Spanish cuisine....start reviewing Olive Garden's spaghetti and meatballs. I hear they have bread and soup for pretty cheap too.
Hey, I loved the Spanish food and ambience. I had the mal y tierra dish. good stuff! The wait staff was extremely slow and understaffed. But I don't hold this against the staff or the restaurant. It's more of a management problem. I loved the Spanish guitar playing in the background. It was my birthday after all! The Spanish Grenache wine was superb. Note: This is not Mexican food. Sorry, you don't get tacos or burritos here! I can't wait to go again! Hopefully, there will be better wait staff! This is the ONLY Spanish Restaurant in Town that I know of.
My friend and I liked the restaurant! The service was good; [the seating a little cozier than normal] and the food was good. We shared the tapas: Pincho Moruno Cordero, Gambas al Ajillo, Berenjenas Salteadas with Patatas Bravas y Ali‐Oli accompanied by the delicious sangria. All were exceptional except the skewers (Pincho Moruno) the meat was a little on the tough side. The flan dessert was exquisite! Live music band Tesoro was a treat!
Minus: A/C needed in the restaurant, especially during the summer months.
Love the food, especially the tapas. A little loud, but its a big part of its charm.
Excellent local Tucson restaurant. Loved the atmosphere and the food. Would totally go there again. :)
The food was authentic n the drinks refreshing. Great fun atmosphere.
Good food but if you go on a live music night, it can be a little too loud.
