Dropped in, looking for someplace different. We were greeted at the door by the owner with a very warm and inviting disposition. Even though we were a few minutes before the opened for dinner we were allowed to dine.
For being in an older strip center the interior just popped with the black tables and chairs trimmed in chrome. There is a nice selection of colorful art work on the walls - available for sale, supporting a local artist. We were very comfortable.
The menu had a lot of variety without being overwhelming. Both my wife and I selected the #5 combo which included a shredded beef taco, chili relano and a cheese enchilada with generous portions of rice and beans.
The new owners have only been here since April and only last week opened for dinner for the first time.
All in all, a very pleasant dining experience- I guarantee we’ll be back!

I have been a regular customer here since we moved to Marana back in 2015. It's funny how, as a regular, we didn't even think to write a review! I am here to let you know that The Crying Onion Cafe is my favorite restaurant.
I get the same meal every time I come in: the chicken feta wrap with onion rings on the side. Every meal I have ever ordered has come out spectacular. I think they may have had the same cook since we started going there, and whoever he or she is, they are INCREDIBLE. I have yet to meet them, but I need to tell them how great they really are. In fact, he deserves $20 tips from everybody all the time. Lol
Next are my favorite waiters/waitresses. I'll have to get their names, too, but I have not had any bad experiences. There is a young man and a young woman who always take care of us. They are so attentive that they already know what I need before I even ask it.
The atmosphere is relaxing and homey, whether it's packed full of people or not! We always come on the weekends.

Mother's Day breakfast. First time here. Jackie our waitress is AMAZING!!!!! Coffee cake is best I've had in town. Prices reasonable, Cafe layout isn't super tight and crowded little they sometimes are. Daughter and I have decided this is now our spot cause it's wonderful! Clean, service is great, staff is friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!!!! Will be a repeat customer ourselves. The cinnamon roll French toast was yummy, biscuits are huge, silverware was clean, bathroom was clean. Even busy this morning Jackie took time to chat with us. Come in and ask four Jackie!!!!! She's the reason breakfast was extra special this morning!!!!
Enjoyed our first visit to the Crying Onion! The atmosphere was “homey” and the service attentive. We both had the meat lover’s omelette and they were excellent. Meat chopped up in smaller pieces so that you get a bit of each meat in every bite. We were there on a week day and so got a table quickly and we weren’t hurriedly chased out after we finished.
The crying onion café is a good little local place… Independent, not a chain real people serving real food
our waitress Kit was wonderful and the food was tasty, hot and delivered quick. Good coffee too strong not bitter.
I got chicken fried steak with potatoes and eggs, and Courtland got an omelette with bacon. both are very well prepared, although I would say there was an excess amount of gravy on my chicken fried steak… Did I just say too much gravy? Is that even possible? If you order something without bacon, you can order literally one piece of bacon they sell you one they sell you three those your choices but it’s great because the bacon is excellent.
kit did not tell me they were specials they looked really good. I would’ve gotten one of them but I was not overall disappointed because my meal was very well done!
The restaurant is not large, and the tables filled fairly quickly. But parking is plentiful because it is located in the mall area.
First time here, seated right away and got our food in less than 20 minutes. We split the green chili pork plate and the flavors were great! The salsa was yummy and not spicy. The staff was very friendly all around, we will be back next time we are on this side of town.
Food is always great, went about 8am it was busy and our waitress forgot our toast and bacon, they only had caramel creamer for our coffee. Maybe it was just a bad morning but we love the place.
Offered an high quality authentic experience! I also loved the food. It seemed to have a creative twist compared to most breakfast places in the area
Alamo omelet was outstanding. Lots of beef and the perfect amount of peppers. Service was fast, accurate and professional. Very polite and charming. Wish they were open longer so I could eat all three meals there every day. Crispiest English muffin ever. Excellent.. Be patient. Staffing has been an issue like everywhere. It's worth the wait.
Last time I visited, they were experiencing an electrical problem and it was closed. The two previous times I visited the service was good and fast. The food was very good and not pricey. For two people.
Fantastic food and menu assortment. Highly recommended. Wide variety of items and the pancakes are the best I have ever had!!
Stopped by here for breakfast and man am I glad we did. I got the cinnamon apple pancakes and when Nico (I apologize if I spelled your name wrong) said they were large I wasn't disappointed. Genuinely the size of the plate, like the edges were hanging off (see attached photo). Great staff, fast service, fantastic frickin food everything was amazing. 11/10 y'all, thanks again Nico!
Visiting Tucson, my traveling companion & I gave it a try.
Looks smaller from the outside than was revealed when we arrived.
A nice menu &, finally, a place with a basic breakfast vs other places we've tried who offer stomach busting options (with equally high prices).
Food was good but service was not so good they day I was there. Maybe they were having a bad day. Needed to ask for coffee and water several times.
Would try again

Very good tasting breakfast omelet. Had grilled cheese for my son. I was delightfully impressed with the food and service. Waitress very nice and dud a wonderful job. Prices slightly high but I feel it was worth it. I would return.
