Wow, this place rocks. Great ambiance and character. Hipster like. Very friendly snd attentive staff. Everyone smiled and said hi to us. Love how they serve drinks in mason jars. I had the Big Jim which is a giant cheese covered biscuit with a country fried chicken breast covered in gravy in the middle. I added a fried egg. Some bacon and potato salad finished the plate out. Wife had the grilled vegetable breakfast which is kinda their take on huevos rancheros. Sides were crispy hash browns, homemade tortillas and some yellow watermelon. It was so good I had to order one too. Yes I had 2 breakfasts and didn't even leave the table. Gluttony is a sin so I'm in trouble but it was so worth it. We will be back soon as they have a huge menu and dinner options too. We recommend this great joint to all our friends and all Tucsonans.
This place immediately reminded me The Grill that used to be on Congress, downtown.
Anyway, I loved that they kept the old Chaffins exterior and made subtle changes to the interior. To begin, the exterior is nicely landscaped and they even have an L-shaped wood bench, under the palm tree near the front door. Upon walking in you see sky blue booths and bar stools, unique candles and an alcoholic bar (see pics for details). The walls are white with a few simple framed pictures including the 2 hilariously odd ones outside of the restrooms. You can see the kitchen that it's situated behind the bar seating.
The service: Our service was great. There were 2 people that waited on a row of booths & from my observations there was never anyone waiting.
The food: Their menu is unique in that it offers breakfast and lunch, non-alcoholic, alcoholic (beer, wine and liquor/cocktails). I describe the food as slightly Cajun inspired.
My dad & I ordered a Welcome Breakfast (2 eggs, hashbrowns & a delucious homemade biscuit). I added two thick pieces of bacon and my dad added andouille. Andouille is a cajun inspired smoked sausage with a slight kick to it but nothing too overpowering. Needless to say, our meals were great. Water was serviced in a mason jar & was ice cold.
Parking: It is located just East of downtown off Broadway, off of Euclid. It has am ample free parking lot with spots in the shade.
Welcome Diner is one of my favorite restaurants! The food is fabulous and the servers are super friendly and helpful. A special shout out to Wayne for helping me with my 50th birthday party. It couldn't have been better. I highly recommend the twice fried chicken and the macaroni and cheese is to die for! And don't forget the biscuits!!! It is a great venue to celebrate your special occasions. We had the entire back room to ourselves this Saturday night. It seats 30 people and we had the best party ever! Check it out for your next special occasion! Thank you Welcome Diner! I love you!
On Sunday, Miguel and I took a turn into this place and boy were we in for a surprise!!! The cocktails were dreamy. I had the Daiquiri (yum!) and Miguel had the best cocktail he has ever had ( and me the best I tried because he only let me have one sip!) called Squanderlust. It was so yummy! And the food... The jambalaya was great and in love with the grilled cheese. This place was delightful and we will be returning.
Great food! Great feeling in the diner. I like the memories on the wall, definately connects you to the diner instantly. Super cool feel, I loved it. Our waitress and waiter/host were amazing! I had Cranberry pecan salad mac n cheese with andoullie sausage! So good. The ginger pomegranate soda, not too sweet not too sour.
I loved everything about the place. The decor is retro-ish but not overly done, it was comfortable. The staff is friendly and informative about the food. One waitresses, with a lovely smile, took the time to tell us about her newest creation, a pie with Carmel corn! I'll definitely be back. In the meantime please enjoy one of the most photogenic plates of food on the planet. Avocado Toast. Sexy.
We came in for dinner on our last night in Tucson. It was a wonderful way to end our trip. Everything on the menu looked great and when we asked for advice pretty much everything on the far right hand side of the menu is recommended. I’m not a huge fan of tomato but the fried green tomato sandwich sounded delicious and it was. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection, the service was excellent, and the decor and seats were very comfortable. I think it’s a nice touch that they provide postcards and mail them for you. If we are ever back in town we will definitely come here and highly recommend it.
Staff is accommodating and friendly. A high recommendation. Locally sourced food and was decent. Cocktails were lovely. I highly recommend for a night out.
Such a cute place! Friendly staff! The coffee was delicious and the three sisters burrito was unusual and amazing. Loved eating here!
This place serves delicious food. Period. If you try anything, go for the posole...if they have any, they are sometimes out by Sunday.
However a good breakfast standby are the roast veggies with eggs, go for over-medium.
But really explore the menu, you're likely to find something you like. Think Nana's kitchen with a twist; the pan birote with chorizo and potatoes is always a hit, and of course nothing says breakfast like a little day drinking.

I came here for the vegan food options, but the naked man printed on the very eclectic cover of the menu is what really made it worthwhile! Cozy little diner that beautifully captures the look and feel of a diner and well kept inside. The service was good, all the staff were friendly and food came out fast. I had the Jackfruit Poboy. Wow, probably the best I've ever had. I'll definitely be back to get that again.
The food did not disappoint.i ordered gumbo and it was delicious. The place had a retro vibe to it. The cuisine, modern. The wait staff was pleasant and knowledgeable.the prices reasonable
Was in town for the Baja Beer Fest, and had to swing through here to check out Phoenix’s sister diner. It was the perfect spot to finish up our day trip down to Tucson. Vibe felt spot-on in comparison to the Phx location, only this location is HUGE with a cool little ‘living room’ styled seating area in the back with a projector tv. Also has an inviting, roomy outdoor section out back too. We started off with the Banh Mi French Fries which had amazing flavor, but probably could have used some more sauce - maybe some pickled veggies and cilantro too. And the main dish we split was the chefs special that night, the Big Jim, a fried chicken sandwich but sub’d the normal bacon gravy for chorizo gravy. So so so delicious. Definitely check it out. If you’re into neon lighting, you’ll dig this place.
The food here is INCREDIBLE! I love the vibe, the healthy options, and the quality of the meals!
I've come here the last two times that I've visited my family in Tucson. I absolutely LOVE everything about this place!
It's located kind of on the edge of downtown off of Broadway. Its vibe is very cute and aesthetic. I love that it has such a retro diner feel to it and yet is also very modern and contemporary feeling inside as well.
The service here has been quick and friendly each time I've come here so far and we never have to wait long at all to be seated. The waiters are all prompt and willing to give advice on dish selections.
I also loved that there's a lot of plant-based options here, since some of my family members are vegan.
I personally love getting their fried chicken and macaroni and cheese! The macaroni here is by far one of my favorites that I have ever tasted. It is SO rich, creamy, thick, and DELICIOUS! I'd go back to Tucson just for their macaroni if I could. In fact, my mouth is watering right now just thinking about it!
They also have some great mimosa and wine options to accompany your meal with. A perfect way to top off a beautifully presented meal that was fresh and delicious!
I love everything about this place - the cute retro-styled tables, the clean and modern interior, the healthy, fresh cuisine, and the friendly service. It's one of my top spots for the Tucson area that I'll be frequenting every time I'm around! I highly recommend!
After eating here for 7 months and everytime I have come here it always been breakfast time and everytime always so good! But finally come around lunch time and ordered the Big Jim for the first and holy what I saw looks so good! Kudos to he cooks back there and keep it up!
The welcome diner is a really cool place that has fun retro styling and an awesome selection of interesting food on the menu. They have jackfruit BBQ vegetarian options which I really enjoy. The banana pudding is also fun.
I had the Big Jim chicken sandwich (with sausage & gravy) with a side of slaw - wow! We also had the PB&B hamburger with peanut butter (added jalapeno relish) - again wow! We also ordered the pulled pork fries - ok , not wow, but almost. Absolutely delicious. I won't even mention the wonderful dessert we shared. Price is a little high, but, not outrageous - we'll be back!
This is my GO TO breakfast place when I need a good cooked meal. The staff is amazing, the food is tasty, and the atmosphere is fun. This is such a Tucson-Y place and definitely a must visit.
