Delicious food at tasty prices, set in a warm and well-decorated enviroment!
This was my first time at Za'atar, and I've been so thoroughly impressed by them that I may take my partner with me for a second trip tonight!
I ordered the gyro plate (11), my coworker ordered the chicken shawarma (11), we split some date bread and a rolled baklava. They offer pita or rice with the plates-- I chose pita and was not disappointed! Each slice of pita had the perfect pocket, was freshly baked, and had great flavour. I packed each one with fresh tzaziki, tender gyro meat, and veggies from the side salad. Everything tasted wonderful, was a great texture, and FRESH made! The date bread was springy and warm, the filling had good texture, and wasn't too sweet. The baklava was crisp all the way through, and the filling was just right in flavour and texture. Highly recommend!
The space itself was laid out in a lovely way-- from the grand front doors there was the bakery (laden with fresh treats and breads) and kitchen to the right. To the left is the seating area, which holds around 10 comfortable sized tables. At the back of the room there's a beautiful table display, and there's art and decoration on every wall. The aesthetic altogether was full and exciting to look at-- the textures all played nicely together, too.
Would definitely recommend, and am returning for dinner soon!
Having two different meats (pork and chicken) on the same plate, both were juicy and cooked through properly. Good and authentic flavors, vibrant atmosphere, and plenty of choices. Want out of the ordinary desserts? Drop in and get some freshly made/baked. Service is prompt and friendly. I will gladly dine in or buy their baked goods again.
The food was absolutely DELICIOUS! They also have really nice teas. It is beautiful nice little place they have here. They do have have parking. It is family friendly. And they have really nice staff. The place also has a nice smell to it. They sell many kinds of coffee bags, that also taste and smell amazing. There is also fresh made desserts here, that absolutely recommend. I would definitely love to come back.
Za'atar came highly recommended Saturday morning from some friends of mine and so I decided to give it a try. There was ample parking in the parking lot and the entrance was nice and clean and featured the daily specials board out front prominently displayed. Upon entry I was greeted upfront at the register by the owner who was consistently enjoyable to talk to throughout the entire dining experience. he answered some questions for me about some items I had on the menu and recommended that we tried the pizza boat and the chicken shawarma platter. So we went with his suggestions and also added the original hummus for an appetizer. experience up to this point was phenomenal, however this is when the experience started to leave something to be desired. Be server, while new, took so long to bring us our Waters that we had to get the waters on our own. The hummus appetizer came out with hot pita bread and was displayed beautifully with a drizzle of olive oil, a little bit of spice, and an Olive garnish in the center. The initial portion of pita bread was not enough to enjoy all the hummus so we had asked the server for some more bread and was told that he would bring it to us. After about 10 minutes the server had still not brought us the bread he said he was going to so we just kind of gave up on that. as we were getting a little antsy sitting there waiting for the pizza boat and the chicken shawarma platter, we decided to take a trip out to the outside patio. the outside patio was very homey had ample seating and even had a private dining area I'm assuming for larger parties or important dinner events held at this restaurant. we helped ourselves to the private seating area and it wasn't long before one of the other employees came out and offered us a free dessert, it was not for the weight or anything it was just on a plate sitting at the private table and she was very kind and generous and offered us a dessert. After inquiring as to where our food was once about the total wait of 35 minutes our dinner was brought out. wow 35 minutes is on the longer end of food wait times that I've ever experienced, the meals were presented beautifully and we're absolutely delicious. I'm very glad I went with the owner suggestion of the Pizza boat as the flavors melded together deliciously in my mouth and it was definitely a top-notch meal with a price that I think is more than fair of only $7. we enjoyed our meal and had to get up to refill our drinks. we finished our dining experience by purchasing some deserts who I understand are made from a gentleman whose from Syria which is why the price tag I feel is a little high, well I'm not a huge fan of the deserts they did appear to have a great selection and they all looked very very delicious and made with love and perfection. overall The experience here was good enough for me to go back, I just know next time that I will have my expectations set in a manner to wear if the food takes 30 to 40 minutes to come out I will not be disappointed. I'm sure the server who told me he was only on his third day will improve with time. however having some serving experience I do think the owner should work a little bit harder and hiring people that have a little bit more pep in their step and are more attentive than the gentleman who served us. hope you enjoyed reading this review and I trust that if you venture out to Za'atar's you will enjoy it as we did just know you might be in for a little bit of a wait.
I stopped here for a quick lunch at their newish location today. Service was immediate and not too crowded.
I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and a Turkish coffee.
I received my order within 5 minutes. The bread was delicious warm and just the right thickness. The chicken was cooked to perfection. The tomato, tahini and onions complimented the sandwich. I wish I took a photo but forgot cause I was so hungry.
The Turkish coffee was perfect as well with just the right hint of cardamom.
The service was quick and the place was clean.
I would highly recommend eating at Za’atar if you want authentic middle eastern food.
There are also non-perishable items for sale as well that are local to Syria.
We've used their catering or family meals for company picnics for the last couple years, and recently, our staff has begun requesting them for in office event catering, as well. The food is not only delicious, and fresh, but the presentation is beautiful! They have vegetarian and vegan options, too, which goes over well. They are so generous with portions, we always have left over!
I almost passed this place up even with gps on. Glad I found it. Great staff, nice environment, and delicious food. The meals came out perfect and taste like a homemade meal. My buddies ordered the hot tea and enjoyed it. I was mostly focused in finishing the filling and tasty mixed plate.
If you're in the area and want good Mediterranean food I'd definitely say this is the spot!.
My 1st time with my wife coming here today. Its so good!! I mean its soooooo delicious!!! The service was excellent. The wait time was less than 3 mins. We had the Hummus amd chicken schwarma with garlic sauce and salad and a side order of falafels. We love hummus and theres is the BEST I ever had!!! The rest of our order we had never had before and we enjoyed it all very much. They will defianately see more of us. The pricing of the food is very affordable and very filling. You can see them makin the bread fresh from scratch in thier amazing oven.. OMG! Can i say enough how good the food is!!!!!
The lamb shank was phenomenal! Also had the kebab platter ! Absolutely recommend it. Don’t forget to get Za’atar fries if getting a falafel sandwich.
Loved the look of the place and the food was absolutely delicious. You have to try their coffee
Fantastic freshly prepared flavorful food in a charmingly appointed interior and a happy staff makes this a do not miss place. Lamb shank dinners or just a falafel please all. It has the best outdoor back dining garden anywhere in Tucson. The outstanding pastries in their bakery are a generous collection of eastern Mediterranean sweets in town. Hospitality and an affordable menu makes for lingering anytime.
We had lunch catered in for work. It was so delicious, chicken kabobs rice salad, hummus and pita ...yum so good.

This is a hidden gem in Tucson. A bit pricey for the portions---but worth it!
Stop in and get ANY of the platters... you'll be happy you did.😊
We went for lunch. Shared the appetizer sampler. It was incredibly good, more than enough for two. And the fresh bread is awesome. We brought our own wine, no corkage fee. The food is fabulous, and I loved the service. Lots of smiles. I felt I was wanted there. Can't wait to go back for dinner and try different dishes. Sorry...I got so caught up in the food, I forgot to take pics. Go there! It was wonderful
Delicious!! You can taste the love put into this food! Everything was fresh, seasoned perfectly and absolutely perfect. We had the falafel plate and chicken kabob plate. Good portions and able to feed three people. Definitely, will be eating here again.
Passed by many times and decided to stop recently. What a find! Eat in or take out. Nice inside dining area. Gyro's are very very good. Check out the menu for great options. Bake all their own breads and make their own hummus. No alcohol is served. Their dark tea is great. The staff start to finish was great. Expected wait time and serve time were all very reasonable. A small table group was being very rude, loud and demanding. The staff kept a smile on their faces and tried to comply. Guess some people just can't be pleased.
Located on Country Club (almost across from Ace Hardware) just off corner of Grant.
It's a smaller yellow building but well marked. I found it clean and good staff.
