Amber is such a gem! Better than your average buffet at a Springhill/Residence Inn! The food is kept hot, waffle makers are available, and options for whatever you fancy. The star of the experience was Amber, who went above and beyond to provide local dining options and things for us to do while in Tulsa! This woman deserves a raise!

Hits and Misses. I'm staying at the Renaissance, and the menu looked interesting, so I wanted to try it. When I arrived (at 5:45), I was the only one in the restaurant, which was ok, since it was so early. But when I left, there were still only four people there, which is a bit odd, but ok on its own. However, the lack of customers and the structure of the space meant I ended up having to listen to every conversation in the kitchen. It didn't bother me at first, but it was hard to relax and enjoy the meal after a bit.

My server was wonderful, attentive, and kind. High praise for her. She first brought out the bread (homemade bread with a tomato swirl), served with a basil, pesto-type spread. It is fantastic! The bread was soft and delicious and the spread was much more than I expected. It was great. I ordered a cup of the lobster bisque and crab cakes.

The lobster bisque is one of their specialities and for good reason. It is a really nice lobster bisque. Big chunks of lobster (not overcooked, which is rare), a nice balance on the cream (rich, but not overly thick), a bit of corn and onion in there, and an all-around balanced flavor. I would absolutely consider this a "must try" if you're eating here.

I wish I could say the same about the crab cakes. The crab cakes were billed as coming with micro greens, mango salsa, and a red pepper aioli. The crab cakes, on their own, left much to be desired. I like a fresh tasting crab cake with nice chunks of crab, and this was just a step above a frozen crab cake (a relatively high quality frozen crab cake, but still). It was dense, lacked a fresh flavor, and it was much too spicy for my liking. I love some spicy foods, but it was just totally unbalanced. It was also served without the micro greens, and the "mango salsa" was a grapefruit/orange salsa that may have had a few tiny bits of mango thrown in. I only ate half of it and ordered a house salad to compensate. (The salad was fine, but it wasn't exceptional.)

Would I eat there again? Hard to say. A little updating and some efforts to create a comfortable space for when you have relatively few guests would go a long way. There is clearly a good bit of talent somewhere in the organization, but the crab cakes were just a bomb. It's unfortunate to have such an uneven experience.

That said, I definitely want another shot at the bisque. But when that happens, it probably will be a room service order.

HITS: Service, Bread, Lobster Bisque
MISSES: Crab Cakes, Restaurant Facility/Environment
