I stopped in here for lunch last Monday. I was on my way to the First Colonial area of VB to fix a computer and had an hour to kill, so this was a perfect time to finally stop in at Tubby's and try out one of these burgers I kept hearing about.
I walked in around 1pm and found a very small yet cozy setup. The bar is on the left and small dining area is on the right. Out the door on the other side of the bar is patio. There were some regulars sitting at the bar working on their buzz. I grabbed a chair and sat down with them. The bartender walked up and introduced himself. I believe he said his name was Justin. I ordered a O'Connor brew from the tap which was served in a little mason jar glass and then glanced at the menu. They have quite a few options, and serve breakfast which caught me by surprise. I thought they were just a bar before seeing that. I placed an order for a 'Bacon with Cheddar' burger and then watched a little TV while waiting for my meal.
About 15 minutes later my burger arrived. It was served on a brioche type bun and the portion size was pretty good. I had fries on the side. The burger was good, however the fries tasted like the oil needed to be changed. The meal was certainly filling but a little on the pricey side. The burger/fries was $10 plus the beer and tip, it came out to $20. All in all pleasurable experience and I could imagine hanging out here from time to time if I lived closer.
The singer was AMAZING and she entertain the whole room by singing and walking around. The waitress was really nice and that smile is a plus for a good customer service. My martini was THE best martini pineapple upside down cake I ever had!
Great service, great food and drink specials! Our waitress Hunter was AMAZING!!!! I would actually come back just for her phenomenal service.

Waitress was excellent. Had to send back my drink....Bartender used soda water versus tonic in my drink.
Super cute spot. We just missed the live entertainment and did not order food but we intend to come back and add a star!
Has the feel of a great local spot.
The drinks are the best thing about this place. The food is bland.. don't even try the grits. They are watery and no flavor.. nothing. Should've known better. Everything is line-itemed. My check for an adult and 2 kids with only 2 mimosas was $70. The only saving grace was the service was good, but I'll be making my own breakfast.. And my own mimosas from now on.
The grub was stellar. Even the French fries were notable. The beer list was okay. It's a popular hot spot and was crowded on Saturday afternoon. The staff were very attentive and welcoming. The ladies room was mysteriously locked for hours though...

Immediately following this experience the owner contacted me very quickly and promised me he would address all of the issues. True to his word, he did. I have order the same thing twice since my original review and the meal was perfect.
I'm glad I gave them another chance and appreciate the owner taking steps to correct the problem - quickly. That shows me they sincerely care. When I crave a burger, this will be my go to spot.

Tonight I ordered a burger and fried pickle app - I have had both at the restaurant before, but ordered delivery this time.
The appetizer was not correct - and didn't have ranch with it. As pictured, these were definitely not chips. I don't know if they prepared it incorrectly or what. It wasn't even fully cooked!
The burger was worse. The fries given were NOT the fries Tubby's usually has - there was no seasoning on them and they were steak fries that looked like they were purchased frozen from a grocery store. The burger didn't even hold together - it feel apart all over the place! Frankly, I lost my appetite the moment I saw it.
Happy hour alone deserves 5 stars. But the food is good, always got it quick and always seated quickly even with a party of 5 or more.
Their daily menu is never disappointing and the staff are friendly. Come here regularly.
Great place for football on Sunday! Drink specials are great! Minor complaint...can only order brunch until 2pm!! Otherwise an awesome tavern- wish we had one on our side of town!
Wait staff: Very attentive and friendly!
Food: Amazing! This is the only place in Hampton Roads where their $7 fried mozzarella appetizer could double as a meal and they are the best mozzarella i have ever had.
They have both drink and food specials for each day of the week and for $2 Taco Tuesdays there is no one who can compete with Tubbys Tavern.
Bar: Excellent assortment of both spirits and local craft brews as well as foreign and domestic beers.
Our family will forever be patrons of Tubby's Tavern and we recommend that you drop in for a bite or a drink!
The 5 stars are solely related to service. Food and management has taken a complete nosedive in the last few months and despite repeated conversations with regulars it continues. The staff is awesome but they can’t deliver products that are not available or make up for subpar management. Being service industry myself I hate to leave negative reviews but honestly the staff here deserves so much better. They are left in the position of constantly apologizing for things beyond their control and they go out of their way to try and make up for management and ownership shortcomings. Six months ago this would have been a glowing review, I hate that it is not, I truly love this place for what it was and the amazing staff. Come in, meet them and follow them wherever they go, you won’t be sorry.
Go here all the time for lunch. Their burgers are the best in the area and their wings are cooked to perfection. Liking the atmosphere post renovation. The server advised to always go with the special if there is one, and after my first foray with their bacon-wrapped meat loaf sandwich, he was right.
