This spot is incredible! I don’t think I’ve ever left a restaurant feeling like I didn’t spend enough money! When we first sat down the waitress brought us edamame on the house! We ordered the spicy California roll, 2 super duper rolls and a spicy tuna roll and I got a Shirley Temple. Then after we got out food they brought us a slice of cheesecake and I thought it was for another table but it was for us! On the house! And it was SO good. Everything was so good! I eat sushi out a lot but this was hands down the best dining experience I’ve had in years. Everything was very clean and the staff was very attentive and so kind! It’s a shame I live across town or I’d be in all the time!
Quiet and quaint place for quality sushi. My daughter and I stopped by after shopping for a Homecoming dress. The waitress was very friendly! We ordered six delicious sushi rolls. I love the Crazy Yama! My favorite! The seaweed salad was amazing! I wish I had the recipe for it. This place is highly recommended! Definitely worth it!
I ordered the golden shrimp, king crab and dancing sushi for pickup. Everything was so delicious and definitely would order again. I was surprised they even placed a cheese cake in my bag on house.
Its such a cute small place with literally the best sushi and shrimp i will ever have! They’re all so sweet and always give us free dessert amd sometimes a lil more! My family and I love this place and I just wish I could eat there daily!!
Excellent, beautiful sushi rolls & sashimi. Faves are Iron Man Roll, California Roll, Volcano Roll, Candy Cane Roll, & Eel Roll. Also like Gyoza & Shrimp Tempura. Always friendly service. Good place to relax, cool interior.
MY FAVORITE SUSHI SPOT. I moved here 3 years ago and THIS IS THE ONLY SUSHI PLACE I GO TO. For one, the service is unmatched. This lady is the best! She is ALWAYS looking out for us and we love her to death! She is very polite and welcoming.
The food is awesome as well. Would recommend ANY special roll.

You MUST TRY the Sashimi appraiser!!! It comes with Chefs selection of fish and let me tell you the White Tuna was the best surprise!!! So tender, subtle sweet ocean flavor; THIS BROUGHT ME BACK TO JAPAN!!! The miso soup was delicious, seaweed salad was fresh and tasty, perfectly prepared. But the Yama roll was a definite great chose, each bite better than the last. Please take my word and get what the chef and waitress recommend. I'm coming back again and again and again!!!
Update, I just ate the dessert, it was the chocolate chip Moshi and it was so good it made my toes curl!
Great service and sushi here at Yama Chen's Sushi Bar/Lynnhaven Mall location. I am very picky about the quality of my sushi and Yama does not disappoint. I like it that the tuna and salmon rolls have "fresh" fish, and it does not taste like left-over meat/ingredients from the night before. Prices are average here, for excellent quality sushi. I am now officially a regular customer and order here every week. Great customer service from all of the staff.
Revised 10/13/22. I still LOVE Yamachen Sushi. I always do "take out", so I cannot vouche for a "dining in" experience. For take-out though, YamaChen Sushi is excellent, and the only bad issues I read about is with the volcano rolls which come out too greasy (I wouldn't know because I do not order volcano rolls). Give them a try if you are someone who is picky about their quality of sushi. ...but if you are a "volcano roll" lover, ask em not to make em so greasy, and see what you get. Check em out.....
We're traveling in the area for a softball tournament and last night was my daughter's birthday. She chose sushi, so we ended up here completely randomly. Not only was the service impeccable and the food delicious, when they heard that it was her birthday, they brought her out a slice of cheesecake with a trick candle and sang to her. My heart was full as her momma. I could not recommend this place enough for both locals and those wayward travelers alike. Thank you so so much for making her might special!
Yama Chen sushi roll is a delightful, small restaurant outside Lynnhaven Mall on the north side. We love Vicky who kindly serves the customers without errors. The food is freshly made to order. The chef prepares a beautiful presentation. Healthy eating and hearty. We will go back.
This place is a hidden gem! After driving around the city on a Saturday evening looking for a place too eat that did have an hour plus wait we stumbled across this lovely restaurant. The staff was very friendly and helpful in finding a good selection. Their food is nothing short of amazing. I’ve have sushi all over world and this is far one of the best experiences I’ve had. I highly recommend you came and bring the family.
Cozy and welcoming place to have sushi. Wonderful customer service. Highly recommend the fried wontons appetizer. Also enjoyed the sake flight.

My girlfriend and I went out on our Valentine's date and 3 year anniversary date here and it was our first time at a sushi restaurant. This was our best date we've ever had. We got some type of spicy chicken appetizer with the most amazing flavors and it was so delicious I shed a tear. The time it takes to receive the food made out date better because we talked so much and I got to just stare in her beautiful eyes. When my volcano roll sushi arrived I picked up my chopsticks and devoured the first one and I almost walked out of the restaurant because it was so damn good. Never has my mouth be graced with such awesomeness. Our waitress was extremely nice and professional which added to the sheer beautiful ambiance in that place. After our meal our server gave us a complimentary cheesecake my girlfriend and I shared. I can't give enough thanks to this place and the waitress for making this experience a unforgettable one. Thank you guys so much. They even gave us a $10 coupon for our next visit. Everyone who is thinking about going here please do. This place is nothing short of amazing!!
This place is amazing. The food was great and everyone was soo nice. I loved all the Geisha dolls that were around the restaurant. We will definitely be back!

The people were very welcoming and the lunch box has perfect portion sizes. They accommodate me by using soy paper for the rolls on my to go order. Everything was delicious. I would recommend.
