The mushroom risotto was very light tasting. Not as heavy and rich as I’m used to. I enjoyed it very much. The watermelon salad might have won the table for the night. Knowledgeable about gluten—which was great.
At first I thought the menu seemed not as interesting as I expected. But, when the food arrived it was so delicious and they had innovative elements and plated beautifully. I would definitely go again and want to eat the octopus salad every day ha
Really beautiful place with great service. The food was amazing and we really enjoyed our time. We arrived a little early (before they open), so had a chance to walk the property.
Note that there's only valet parking, but they do validate. Also, the restaurant doesn't do cash.
I'd recommend a table at the open kitchen if you're into that sort of thing.
Update: came back exactly a year later, and everything remains true. This is probably the best fine dining experience on the island.
Dining here was an amazing experience. Despite deciding relatively last minute to book a table, they were able to accommodate us quite nicely, even providing an outside table with a decent view. The food itself was delicious, especially the rib eye steak. Topped with a satisfying dessert, it is hard to find a better way to celebrate Mother's Day.
I did the chef table and it was a great experience.
I went to breakfast and lunch.
Highly recommend
Update 12/21/22: still great! Their strawberry cake is delicious! Everything was great. The view is amazing.
Amazing breakfast buffet, we went twice., staff was very friendly..
Dinner was great, would highly recommend visiting this badass restaurant, especially for breakfast buffet!
Our meal was incredible. You can definitely taste how fresh everything was! Every interaction with the staff, from host to server, was very pleasant and you could definitely feel the staff really care about providing a great experience. I highly recommend the octopus salad and fresh catch of the day.
We really enjoyed the view and the apps. The tuna app with burrata and tomatoes was delicious. The table ended up ordering another of the steak app. We got mahi and tuna for dinner - neither were very good compared to the apps. Definitely liked the mahi better of the two. The tuna specifically didn’t have much flavor.
The service was not very good. I’m assuming it’s because of staffing but you’d think a Restaurant would stop taking tables if they couldn’t handle it. Our waiter didn’t come by nearly enough and, on a few occasions, he walked away as we were trying to order something else. He always said he was going to put in an order or give us a minute when he did this. However, it felt like he was either totally unaware or just wanted a reason to go do something else. (We would give it 3 stars if this was always how the service was)
We also were celebrating a dinner - which they asked about before seating us - and it wasn’t brought up again.
After eating at the pool bars, we did not know what to expect at Kahana Kitchen. We were pleasantly surprised to have a very good experience. We started by splitting the Walpoll mixed greens salad, which was very fresh and tasty. My wife, who normally dislikes salads, loved the salad; especially the pears and red wine mascarpone dressing. I also had the Ahi Tataki, it tasted as good as it looked. The fresh tomatoes and burrata are now my favorite accompaniment to Ahi. My wife had the mushroom risotto, which she loved despite not especially liking mushrooms. We like that the restaurant features local farms as ingredient suppliers and plates that are shareable. The service was very good, attentive but not intrusive.
Honestly I don’t ever leave reviews but I felt like I had to with this place; the food here is absolutely on another level. Wife and I split the striploin & the fresh catch which was Mongchong (never had it before), we had a lot of good food in Maui all week but this topped it off as an amazing last meal before our trip ends. Amazing amazing amazing. Nothing on the plate didn’t deserve to be there. The flavors were incredible. 10 stars if I could, 5 isn’t enough.
Located at the Andaz Maui, Ka’ana kitchen serves modern cuisine with an emphases on local ingredients and strong Hawaiian influences. The restaurant has beautiful views west facing into the ocean; make sure to book a table before sunset.
The Ahi Tataki was delicious. The tuna was very neutral by itself – mainly as an addition of texture. The lilikoi gelatin was quite the contrast but a welcome change.
The grilled octopus was super soft and tender – very well prepared. The local goat cheese was remarkably fresh.
The risotto was fantastic; I’d eat it all day. The asparagus added small bits of crunch, along with a feint earthy flavor to the dish. The onion jam was sweet and broke up the creaminess of the Risotto.
The buttermilk fried chicken was alright; it was pretty tender but the breading could use some work to be more crisp. The grilled pineapple was a great add. However, I wasn’t a huge fan of the Napa cabbage slaw, which felt a little too mild in flavor.
The chocolate cake was decent. I enjoyed the lilikoi pairing.
Lovely place for dinner! Casual but understated elegance! No need to dress super fancy but a dress can go nicely with the place. Service was spot on! Manager heard we were here for a bachelorette and threw in a free dessert ($13)! For four adults we ordered 3 starters, 3 entrees and 3 desserts to share. All the dishes were great! Only complaint was that the Ahi Belly was a bit salty. We’re not massive eaters but were very satisfied! Plus a bottle of French bubbly it set us back about US$350 all up! As expected at a nice restaurant inside a fancy hotel. I recommend!

Had an amazing dinner here with my husband for the last day of our honeymoon. We had reservations for right before the sunset on the terrace, and the views were incredible! Our server was okay, and I was a little disappointed, but the food more than made up for it. We shared the ahi tataki, clams, rib eye, catch of the day, and coconut sundae. The ahi and rib eye stood out the most for both of us, and the cocktails were also delicious!
Best meal in Maui. Perfect balance of sweet savory spicy acid, island and Asian, delicate and bold. Amazing sunset views on the terrace. Genuinely knowledgeable service, but unpretentious. Worth the high price unlike many other places here.
Stunning sunset dinner overlooking picturesque hotel grounds that flow into the ocean. No better way to spend our last night in Maui.
The clams appetizer was a favorite while the watermelon with Feta and candied walnuts was interesting and the cheese taste with the watermelon taste pushed the boundaries of our palette.
Mains were the fried chicken, Uku Snapper, and Mushroom Risotto with a 62 degree egg.
Everything was amazing, but the risotto was elevated! Highest recommendation for this dish as a main or as an accompaniment.
We did the Chefs Table and it was magnificent! The food was innovative and delicious, the sauces were unctuous, the staff and the chefs were friendly and approachable. We had a really great 2 hours and were pleasantly full but not over full. We even took some leftovers back to our room. Great time.

Summary:
Ka’ana Kitchen is my absolute favorite culinary experience in Maui. When I visit the island having a reservation is a priority. The restaurant hits every high note regarding food quality, view/ambience, and service. While the meal is not cheap by any means, it’s definitely worth what you pay for.
The Ahi Tataki was absolutely fantastic - tender, smoked Ahi with lilikoi agar, smoked burrata, and tomato duo. The Octopus Salad was like a Caesar salad variant - perfectly cooked grilled octopus tossed with lemon oil greens, garlic crouton (incredible texture and flavor), and chèvre. Scallops were perfectly sourced and cooked - sweet and supple - and were paired with beets. An interesting but successful flavor combination. The entrees were fantastic, though I would say the appetizers were the highlight of my meal. I highly recommend the buttermilk fried chicken - definitely not your average deep fried bird. Despite being extremely full, we managed to order the chocolate rum cake which was absolutely divine. Extremely moist and rich - paired beautifully with the salty macadamia crumble.
In our last visit for my sister’s graduation, the hostess kindly gave us a beautiful full ocean view. Our server was fantastic, offering great drink and food recommendations (though we ended up ordered over half the menu). I look forward to returning next year for another delightful review!
