This was my second visit to Travel by Taste. On my first visit, my wife and I ate dinner together. This time it was a working lunch with some co-workers. I have been impressed both times.
You order at the counter first. Then you pay at the counter when you are finished. While you are waiting for your food to be prepared, you can have a seat in the dining room, or you can look around in the market. Where else can you get (for example) mint flavored, carbonated, drinkable yogurt?
I ordered the tabouli and the grilled chicken Greek salad. Mediterranean restaurants vary in the ratio of parsley to cracked wheat in their tabouli recipes. This place likes to have a much larger quantity of parsley than cracked wheat. Lemon juice was prominent in the dish. It was a nice preparation for the salad that followed.
They put their chicken shish kabobs on the grilled chicken Greek salad. The feta cheese on the salad comes in chunks about the size of a half dollar. It was fairly mild in flavor. I normally like feta cheese, but this was so mild that I could not enjoy it. I opted for the balsamic vinagrette dressing on the salad. They put a generous amount of dressing on it, and it was mostly good quality balsamic vinegar. I enjoyed sopping up vinegar with the cut-up pieces of pita bread that were served with the salad. It also paired well with the grilled chicken. You may want to order this dressing on the side or order a different dressing if you would prefer to have less balsamic vinegar on your salad.
The service is friendly but a bit slow. I agree with one of my co-workers: I am glad to know that this restaurant is around, and I will definitely return when I need to satisfy my cravings for gyros or shish kabobs.
Every time I have a guest from out of town I take her/him to this place and they are always very favorably impressed. The falafel sandwiches re the best in the city and the owners are always pleasant. Plus the eclectic food store section is a great place to find different and tasty foods.
Mediterranean and middle-Eastern flavors at its finest! This small place is owned by an Iranian couple that has been making oklahoman's smile for a long time. The food is simply fantastic. Prepared and served just right.
A few recommendations: Try their humus, it's just great! Their lamb kabobs, phenomenal... And you should really try their French fries! They fry them in olive oil!
Downside: the service could be a bit better, they are generally super busy so it takes them a while to get around...
Our meal was delicious. I really liked the balsamic dressing they had for the salads. It was a little hard to get someone attention to seat us/menus/take our order. But that was the only complaint. Neat little international market too.
Consistently good.. It's all good, even the iced tea! There are alot of good restaurants in OKC serving this kind of food, but this one continues to shine. I've had many of their dishes and all of them have been good. Even their flatbread is a winner......so tender.
Great food, nice little authentic grocery store.. Love their hot tea, samosas, chicken kabobs. I always shop there a little: mango juice, canned vegetables, spices, stuffed grape leaves, authentic sweets.

OMG so good !!!. I called an order in to take home and went up to pick up. While in there I was greeted by a swam of fellow foodies , but they were waiting to sit down to eat. The place was packed @ 5:30 . Thank goodness I called in advance for my order. I arrived a wee bit early so while waiting I strolled through the small but ample supplies of goodies, from olives to falafel mix.To all types of relishes I never heard of. My order was ready and I paid a small price (20.57 ) for 2. By the looks of things the man before me is a regular because the owner was talking to him like he knew him. I also jumped in the convo and by the time we were walking out the door we were all laughing. I hurry to get home since I hade 2 bags for I could eat. I opened up one bag which had my greek salad HUGH salad at that and a good size of tabouli container. looked at both and mouth started to water (literally) . I couldn't wait so I snuck a spoon full of the tabouli and a party started in there. I got 2 plates down and dished a small amount onto my husbands plate. The remainder was for me. next I opened the Greek salad and evened it up into 2 salad dishes, added the dressing ( comes on the side) and mixed it well. Opened up the Gyros containers on a place and dinner was ready. Husband comes to table and says " Looks good" ( typical) . fisrt was the Greek salad which was VERY FRESH and delish ! it was so good I wanted to lick the plate. Picked up this MASSIVE SIZE gyro and I think I died and went to heaven at the point. It was so big I couldn't finish it so I saved it for the morning. The dressing they put on the gyro is also FRESH the pita bread is REAL HOME MADE. I watched them make it from cutting the meat to cutting the tomatoes and adding each item on it to form a gyro. For a hole in the wall place it is the BEST . I can't think of one thing that would not be good on the menu. Next time I am going to try the hummus and another dish..I give this place 5 stars for the freshness, the portion size, the dollar amount and the feeling of being at home atmosphere. We didn't dine there but buy the looks of things casual dress and loads of fun for friends and family.
Great food.. This place has the best Chelo kabob in Oklahoma.
Service is average, building is showing it's age, food is fantastic and prices are reasonable.
Awesome!. I love this place. It's very unique. The food was outstanding. I had hummus, a Greek salad (which was amazing), chicken kabob dinner (included rice and grilled veggies), dates and baklava. Wow. Very yummy!!! The owner recommends the eggplant stew - I will try that next time.
Hidden Gem. You won't find too many authentic Persian restaurants in OKC. This hidden gem is a winner. After eating any of their delicious meals, I like purchasing Medjool dates from the market as a dessert.
A lovely experience. Travel by Taste is a great experience at a family-owned, delicious restaurant. The staff area always friendly, the food always fresh. I love the samosas and the chicken kabobs are tender and perfectly spiced.

The best beef kebab yet, with generous portions of rice and grilled vegetables, combined with very friendly service in a relaxed atmosphere, makes for a new favorite eating establishment!
Best Persian/Greek Food in Town. If you have not tried Travel by Taste, then you are missing out! This little gem of a family owned restaurant has the freshest and most delicious Greek food in town. Everything is top quality and lovingly prepared. The hummus is rich and creamy, the best I have ever had. All the salads are outstanding, with the real Greek olives and the sweet little tomatoes. They use tangy sheep milk feta, which they sell in the deli, along with other hard to find goodies. The kabobs are consistently delicious served with the lightly grilled vegetables and buttery saffron rice. Top it off with the delicious cardamon tea, and you have a fabulous meal for an affordable price.

NICE LITTLE WELL KEPT SECRET.I'm ga-ga for the cardamom tea (hot or iced!) and am convinced that TbyT's falafel is easily the best in town. (Maybe the best I've had anywhere! The difference? The flaky lavash in lieu of the more traditional pita.)
Gorgeous nuts and dried fruits straight from both Iran and Turkey -- VERY high quality.
Be sure to shop the little grocery/deli while you're there, and to order a glass of iced cardamom tea.
They have GREAT falafels, although i'd prefer it on a pita. They can also make it spicy which I'd highly recommend. The family who owns it are very nice, and we've always had good service.
I am here right now for the first time, and I LOVE it! I am half Persian, and their food is as good as what my family makes. Give it a try for sure. The staff is awesome too.
Amazing Food!. The kabob's are so juicy! Each meal comes with saffron rice and grilled veggies. Not your typical mom and pop spot. The grilled salmon with jeweled rice was fantastic. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
The Best Persian Food in Town. I have been looking for excellent persian food for the longest time in OKC. I found it here at Travel by Taste!!! Absolutely amazing people, atmosphere, and food. I had the Chicken kabob and it reminded me of my families cookouts in California. The spices were phenomenal and the saffron rice was cooked to perfection. Also, there is nothing better than grilled zucchini and tomatoes. My mouth is watering as I think about it. I will be going back to this place regularly!!!
NOM. I still have dreams about the samosas with tamarind sauce. Don't let the deserted parking lot/strip mall creep you out - this place is delicious.
Don't forget to browse the shop. The food here is just outstanding. We particularly like the grilled chicken and falafel sandwiches. If you can stand the heat ask for the special hot sauce they make daily. The shop is full of wonderful imported items. We can't stop eating the cookies made from chickpea flour. The hint of cardamon is fantastic! The owners are so helpful and love to answer any questions you have. This is THE BEST Mediterranean restaurant in Oklahaoma.
The Chelo kabob is the best thing ever! I just want the whole world to know that Travel by Taste is THE best food in Oklahoma City!
Always Tasty. The food here has always been great! f you are not sure about the menu just ask - they are always very helpful!
They had me at "Cardomom Iced Tea"! We can never decide, so we leave it up them what we get. We are always pleased with their choices!!!
Small Grocery and Deli. Along with really terrific Medit. dishes. Have a conversation with Parvhis, the owner, and he'll hook you up with a wonderful off menu meal. I always ask for "whatever you're having for dinner." He's also very generous with cooking tips if you are buying some of the grocery selections. Small, cafe style dining room. Very casual, very inexpensive. (Also, great catering!)
SO GOOD!!. I really like the food here, the chicken kabob is awesome with the rice, they put butter or somthing on it and it's great, One of my favorite places!
