They are usually not open on Sundays, but fortunately there was a private party going on and they accepted other customers like myself for a Sunday dinner.
As is clear from the menu, there is a Japanese influence like sushi rice, hijiki, tonkatsu, and kombu.
Before the appetizer, they gave me a complementary corn soup. I could taste a delicate amount of spice, which made the corn soup quite refreshing but not spicy.
I had Local Heirloom Tomato Salad for the appetizer. It consisted of soft peeled tomatoes, arugula, and Italian dressing. All ingredients were very fresh and tasty.
Then I had Pepperred Rare Tuna with Hijiki and Sushi Rice for the entree. The outside of tuna was seared like tataki. It came with a ceviche-like sauce and the hijiki veggie that made it feel like a rightful translation of Japanese maguro don (tuna on rice) into a creative new American dish. The seasoning could have been slightly blander for me, but I would still be happy to recommend it to anybody.
The dessert was the Baked Chocolate “Sabayon”. It is an Italian dessert and is like a chocolate soufflé topped with chocolate ice cream and caramel cookies. It takes 20 min to cook but it’s worth it for anyone who loves chocolate.
The check comes with an automatic 23% gratuity on the before-tax bill (with the 10% DC food and beverage tax, it’s 1.33 times the listed price). I would totally come back to try more items on the menu.
The 5 course chef’s tasting menu is a phenomenal deal (really 6 courses including dessert)! We came with a group of 5 and left absolutely stuffed. They were also very accommodating of dietary restrictions. My favorite part of the meal was that they brought us 5 different desserts to share.
One of the tastiest meals I’ve had in DC. The panko crusted pork was the best I’ve ever had. The salmon dish we had at the time (this was awhile ago) was cooked flawlessly and mouthwateringly seasoned. Service was a little slow but at least they kept bringing us bread for free while we waited. Very elegant interior, very hushed atmosphere, beautiful decor. I’m going to go back to try the chefs menu soon!
We held a wonderful surprise dinner last Friday. The food was delicious and prepared nicely, compliments to the chef! The ambiance of the restaurant was perfect for our birthday celebration and the staff was phenomenal, especially Natasha!!! Everything was amazing!
Thanks to Corduroy for making Friday a special night.
So here is the deal. I got a dinner for 2 valued at $120 thru Verizon up program. After making the reservation I took my wife and we went to the restaurant. The restaurant is very nice and quiet with low lighting, it has a modern look to it. The lady who greeted us was super nice and gave us our Verizon up menus. Then came the server. When she saw we had Verizon up menus she looked not so happy. She never introduced herself. She took our order. I ordered green salad that was great. Then Flat iron steak with mushrooms for main course ( she never asked what sides I wanted when the plate can it had potatoes and green beans on it). I did not want to make a scene but anyway the food was excellent. Kudos to the Chef. Then came dessert it was Pistachio bread pudding, which was delicious. Other then the server being standoffish and not coming to check on us the restaurant was beautiful and the food was great.
The $85 chef's menu recently at Corduroy was the perfect choice for a special occasion dinner with friends. The menu includes an amuse bouche, fish courses, meat courses and dessert. Each presentation had finesse but two standouts were the pan seared ocean trout that was brackish, sweet and buttery and the crispy panko pork that was delicate and juicy, simply seasoned to allow the meat to be the star. A variety of flawless desserts which ranged from sorbets to a chocolate torte, was the perfect end to a birthday celebration. The dining room was quiet and modern and the service was professional and unobtrusive. The wine list is outstanding with ample wines by the glass to match the menu.
Chef Power's accomplished cuisine reminded me of what fine dining used to be before the DC takeover of celebrity chefs and fast casual establishments, masquerading as fine dining!
Top Tier restaurant and very exclusive. If you are looking for fine dining, this is the place. Staff was wonderful and treated us like royalty. Food was delicious. Came for my birthday and would surely come back! No complaints at all and not too expensive. Just make sure you set a reservation early!
Very wonderful experience at Corduroy, the staff was very attentive and great, especially Byron! Definitely will be coming back next time we are in town. Tried the chef’s surprise tasting menu and it did not disappoint. Also very accommodating to any dietary restrictions.
We hosted a dinner in the private room upstairs with 17 guests for a wedding celebration and had a phenomenal experience. Our bartender took great care of us and was very accommodating. The service through dinner was terrific and the food was to die for.
We set up a pre fixe menu for our guests and selected some wines to serve during dinner. The process of selecting our menu in preparation was terrific. We also had some food allergies in our patty, and the staff was very helpful in navigating that.
We had a great experience and highly recommend the private rooms if you have a larger party!
Wonderful food, wonderful service. Loved the cocktails and everything tasted really fresh. Very nice high end environment. Would go back again in an instant.
Definitely an interesting menu, however the tasting was enjoyable. Expect smaller portions and more light fare than dinner. The ambiance is what makes the restaurant, dark and moody, with an excellent wine selection. The hostess was also a great support to us throughout our tasting course. I may not return but I'm glad I got to experience it.
Incredible food experience and great service to guide you. It’s great fine dining. Fine dining with contemporary American offerings. It’s a great place for a special occasion or just a great night out.
An absolute pleasure!
All dishes are made from scratch, using the best ingredients, including desserts.
Had a fabulous time back at Corduroy. The food was delicious and the service was good (poor guy was flying solo cause it was a VERY quiet night) - definitely enjoyed the meal and was glad to be back!!
We did the chefs tasting 6 course menu and it did not disappoint! Highly recommend!
Excellent tasting menu !
My family and I visited this establishment for my husband's birthday dinner. We had all different food restrictions (allergies, food preferences) and the chef accommodated all of our request for all of our tasting courses ! Foods were excellent. Service was out standing. Price was reasonable !
Can't wait to go back !
Very warm and modern restaurant— easily top tier. The food is delicious and completely organic. The service compliments the splendor of the experience. Worth every bite.
Terrible execution. Some dishes were conceptually bad, whereas some were just overly salted. Seems like the kind of place that caters to diplomats and bureaucrats just looking for quaint digs. But for a foodie or a former industry professional- this probably isn't the place to go. We tried half the menu - only the tuna tar tar was decent.
