Fiola Mare is a beautiful restaurant right on the water in Georgetown. Parties on the patio are limited to 4 but if you can fit, I would recommend sitting there when the weather permits.
Sadly, our food and drinks were just so-so and the highlight for all of us was their donuts (lol) even after trying plenty of seafood and pasta.
The service we received was surprisingly poor, particularly for a Michelin starred restaurant, but maybe brunch isn’t when they shine.
Fiola Mare is a true treat and in beautiful Georgetown. I love the lighting in Fiola Mare. It’s bright enough to see but low enough to be romantic and relaxing. We were seated immediately on arrival and champagne poured immediately. Just a perfect pour for two or three sips while settling and preparing to look at the menu. Matthew was our waiter with great suggestions and a perfect sense of humor. He helped with the seafood tower selection and portions since we were a table of six. My friend Dom, is the lead for bar service. He came to say hello and make sure the night was going perfectly. Dom is the ultimate host, so it was a very nice evening. We each had a small portion of pasta with truffle. It melts in your mouth and was a perfect pair with the seafood feast of oysters, mussels and lobster. We next had salads. I love beets but even if you don’t, you should try the beet salad. It is so flavorful and interesting. The special was a Dover Sole simply prepared. We ordered it along with a bone-in rib-eye. It was delicious. The fish and meat came with veggies and mashed potatoes and other sides. We ended the night with desserts and after dinner drinks. I would be remiss if I did not mention Fiola Mare’s next level wine selection. My client selected a white burgundy that was smooth and delicious. You know you have made a special selection when the sommelier is beaming. She was excellent by the way. For dinner we had a Peter Michael red selection. It was perfection, but with its price tag, it is truly for special occasions. I cannot wait to return to Fiola Mare for date night! It has everything you want in a dining experience!!
The service here is top notch. They even had a special birthday menu. The food was also outstanding. Every bite was delicious. 10/10 recommend
You can’t go wrong with Fiola Mare - one of the best Italian seafood restaurants in DC. From the spectacular views of the Potomac river and the Kennedy Center (especially when opting in for outdoor seating) to excellent drinks to professional service. The menu is fantastic, whether you are a pasta lover or just appreciate quality seafood. The portions are more of a European size, but the service staff are great with their recommendations. The only thing surprising me on my last visit was the somewhat slower service. The waiter, although very friendly, didn’t check on my drink and I had to wait a while to order another. The typical impeccable service was somewhat lacking this time.
This place is awesome! Absolutely amazing experience. Excellent recommendations from our server, excellent wine, excellent food. A bit on the pricey side but definitely worth a visit. We had the misfortune of being sat next to a rowdy group of guys having some loud and less than pleasant dinner conversation. It was pretty clear we were on a date so I think the host team should consider seating arrangements a little more carefully but otherwise it was a stellar experience.
From the moment we walked in, the service was spectacular. We were welcomed with two glasses of Prosecco and an amazing table with views to the lake and buildings. For appetizers we had their oysters, which were fresh and savory along with a refreshing salad. The main course was suggested by our waiter and exceeded all expectations. The fish was delicious. The experience unforgettable.
We will be back! 10/10.
Good seafood with waterfront views!
You come here for the seafood. All their dishes are delicious, especially the seafood. I would highly recommend trying some of their vegetable side dishes as they're quite nice.
I forgot to take a picture of the mains, but we got an assortment of fish for 4 people and we were stuffed. The scallops were particularly good.
They have a good list of cocktails as well.
I recently dined at Fiola Mare in Washington, D.C., a gastronomic delight. The cuisine was exceptional, with each dish showcasing a perfect balance of flavors and creativity. The chef's amuse-bouche was a delightful surprise, setting the tone for an exquisite dining experience. The staff and service at Fiola Mare were outstanding, demonstrating attentiveness and a genuine passion for ensuring guests have a memorable time. The atmosphere, both inside and outside, was captivating, offering great views of the water, walkways, and even the iconic Kennedy Center. It's a place where culinary excellence meets superb hospitality, making it a must-visit in the heart of D.C.
Understand upfront that Fiola Mare is our #1 favorite restaurant. However, our latest experience was a bit disappointing.
On Father’s Day, my dad ordered the $125.00 prime rib. He writes: “The first piece was delicious yet I had a feeling that I was eating charbroiled fat. The restaurant was too darkly lit to see the food. However, now that I am eating the leftovers, I can clearly see that there is a lot of fat. And, that amount of fat is just on the remaining 1/6 of the total leftover portion of the steak. There was even more fat on the the actual piece I was served).
The dish was overpriced. I can get a better steak at Ruth Chris’s steak house. Fiola needs to reup their game.”
I tried the Colors of the Garden salad (mediocre and needed dressing, albeit fresh and the pickled cucumbers were a nice touch. For my main, I ordered the gluten free seafood pasta, which was not as good as the last time I tried it. The lemon cello cocktail (Amalfi spritz) was the highlight of my night.
However, the restaurant is amazing with allergies and made sure everything was gluten and dairy free. Thank you for making me feel safe!
Overall, I am very disappointed for the price. It’s not every day you get to dine at Fiola Mare, so I expected better.
A truly wonderful experience. The food and service were impeccable with a perfect view on the river. Highly recommended as a special place to celebrate an occasion or just a treat to enjoy.
