Everything from the chicken liver pate to the burger or their take on the cubano sandwich, is to die for. Great selections of beers also. I highly recommend this place. #acrossfromthezoo #bestfoodindc

The food was so good 😊 it was really delicious the burnie burger 🍔 order apple wood bacon and fries 🍟 it was farm takers angus beef with pickled onion and Gouda cheese 🧀 to die for let me tell you the salmon rolled with scrambled eggs 🍳 and potato 🥔 cakes 🎂 with arugula simply elegant with the right hint of seasonings. Chicken 🍗 fingers tasty too and unlimited mimosa could have been colder and sweeter,.

After a freezing stroll thru the zoo, my family and I stopped in for a bite to eat before heading back to hotel. Had the beet infused salmon tartine - delicious. Looked like a great place to hang out for the locals. Great menu selection.

What a fantastic surprise!! 2 little ones and I were looking for someplace close by the zoo. What an incredible surprise!!! A great kids menu and my tuna sandwich with avocado was just wonderful and hot the spot. The little ones were excited about their food as well. Such an awesome choice right across the street from the zoo. It was a welcoming 70 degrees inside from the rainy elements. The staff was so nice and for being busy... we did not wait very long at all for our meal. Thank you so SO much!!!!

Best burger and fries in town. Brisket sandwich, BLT, avocado toast...all wonderful. Great cocktails, nice beer selection. Very friendly staff. It's a new favorite. My wife and I have been there three times in two weeks.

The wait staff was super attentive, the food arrived quickly, and there were a number of healthy options on the menu. The etch-a- sketch given to my daughter while we waited was a unique idea as well!

I was already a fan of Duke's Grocery and was delighted to finally try the Counter! The food is packed full of flavor and fresh ingredients. You're going to need 4-5 napkins to down their sammies- and we'll worth it. Yum!

Went on the first night expecting a few hiccups, but they did everything perfectly. Ordered the truffle mac and cheese, corn salad, proper burger, cubano, proper pimm's cup, and Lagunitas. The servers were attentive and informative. The food was flavorful and delicious and the atmosphere felt fun and intimate. Great job guys and happy I have a Duke's in my neighborhood now.

Went to Duke’s Counter after walking through the Christmas lights and displays at the National zoo on 12/16/23. We ate outside under a heat lamp looking across the street to the zoo. The restaurant employees were so nice and friendly. We both ordered their Proper burger. It was fabulous! Loved the food and the view. Would definitely go back!

My son got triple mousse chocolate cake. Delicious. I had the proper burger, it wasn't the best I've ever had but it was very tasty. Fries got devoured and they have fresh squeezed orange juice! Elote was yummy too!

This was a nice extension experience from their mainstay Duke's Grocery with comparable food and service. The ambience was a bit lacking, I was seated (too closely) next to a bunch of kegs, and it just didn't have the energy of the regular Duke's during a Friday lunch hour. This time around, I had their famous burger. Though the two patties felt superfluous, I enjoyed the flavors from all the trimmings: melted gouda/pickles/charred red onion/sweet chili/rocket/garlic aioli with the perfectly cooked patties and brioche bun. I opted for the addition of bacon, yum. Awesome that this place is right across the zoo. Will have to stop by next time.

The proper burger is juicy and tasty. Very unique. And shout out to the wonderful spicey aubergine! After a long day at the zoo, this place is the bomb.

There are limited options at zoo so we stepped out to eat and best decision we made that day. Amazing little place with super nice staff. We couldn’t find a table so we sat at bar and staff made us feel very welcomed. Sockeye bowl was amazing. The forbidden rice was one the best I had. Wife ordered chicken tikka which was good too. Atmosphere was very relaxed and staff took extra effort to make everyone very comfortable.

Great food, excellent service, fun atmosphere, happy hour specials all afternoon. We walked in with 2 kids after spending the morning at the zoo. The staff was really great with the kids. Lots of vegetarian options as well.

Wonderful little place right across from the Zoo. Good prices on sandwiches and drinks, and the amble seating outside or inside. Would recommend the ribeye sandwich and thick cut fries.

I’m giving them a 5 just because their burger was super delicious. We got their Mac n cheese and it was good but I can make a better one myself. Their Thai iced tea didn’t have milk which is not what a traditional Thai iced tea. They offered to change it so I appreciate that. The service was excellent. I’ll definitely be back to try other menu items.

Found this place on Google and it did not disappoint! The Proper burger is one of the best burgers I've ever tasted. The service was quick and friendly. Not many places to park would be my only complaint but other than that I definitely recommend this place when visiting D.C.👌🏿

Convenient stop for a family meal after a day at the zoo. Others got burgers, mac and cheese, fries, pickle pot - all were good. Enjoyed the porter on draft. I got the Taken with Liberty and was disappointed - the menu described it like a steak sandwich, it looked like it wanted to be an elevated cheesesteak, and it tasted like a chopped cheese.

A very pleasant little restaurant and a great stop after the zoo. I had the brisket sandwich with fries and a cocktail. The drink was great, and the sandwich was divine. It was bar food but elevated above what I normally would expect. The fries were good but not worth the additional price. The beer selection is a bit thin, but the cocktails make up for it. A bit on the pricy side, but I felt the quality was worth it. The atmosphere inside is cozy and fun.

Awesome find. We stopped by after a day at the zoo. Kids had fish and chips, adults ordered a burger and an eggplant sandwich. Service was lightening fast, and the food was delicious! All the deep fried items were super light and crispy. So glad we found it. Perfect place to have lunch if you are in the area.

The wagyu burger was the best burger I’ve had in a while. They are friendly and good at what they do. I wish I lived here, I go every week at least. Mac & cheese was awesome. We also had a salad that scored high.

Love walking over to Dukes for a burger and drink! The impossible burger is great too. A cute and charming little burger joint that is one of the best places to eat near the Zoo.
