We got an appetizer, entrée, and a sushi platter. All of it was full of flavor and very fresh!
Servers were very professional and attentive, they were sure to make sure we were comfortable and went the extra mile to make sure there was no tonic water in their alcoholic beverages for my mother who is allergic.
Everyone here is rather quiet and respectful, the atmosphere was lovely inside and on the rooftop!
For some of the best Japanese food in D.C. go to Perry's in Adams Morgan. It's a D.C. institution- it's been around for almost 40 years. But their chef is new and creating innovative dishes for their menu.
My wife and I went for dinner on a Friday evening and the place was full (a good sign). Our meal was the best we've had in five years or so. Here's our experience.
1) Food: There wasn't a bad dish, but the standouts were the garlic edamame dumplings and the udon carbonara. I'll crave both.
The shrimp katsu burger, roasted persimmon (a fall item), and the Pink Panther sushi were incredible.
The sweet red bean cream monaka was one of the most unique desserts we've had and so, so good.
2) Drinks: The cocktail list is large, but we went with the Japanese inspired cocktails. If you love sweet (but not overpowering), order the Japanese Passion Sangria. It's very refreshing!
3) Service: It's impeccable. Our service has been with Perry's for most of its lifetime and knows the space well. Timing was perfect and he guided us through the menu with ease.
4) Space: It's on the second floor of a building with one large dining room, a long bar, chef's counter, and a rooftop.
5) Neighborhood: Adams Morgan is a fun area with lots of bars and restaurants. Parking can be tough, but we always find parking in the neighborhood...eventually.
(Our food was comped, but views are my own.)
I always thought of Perry's as a somewhat mediocre Japanese restaurant. But ever since Masako Morishita became the executive chef, that has absolutely changed.
The food is outstanding, the space is beautiful (although make sure to use handrails on the rooftop stairs), servers are so friendly.
I cannot be more excited with Perry's and it is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in DC now.
Definitely went all out🤑 I went with a friend and we tried some of their cocktails (which are all a flat price of $14).
For starters we got their gluten free fried chicken(which was super crunchy on the outside & juicy on the inside!)
This review is for the Drag Brunch. I took my cousins to celebrate their 21st birthday.
I was super impressed with Renz’s promptness and professionalism when contacting me to take my reservation.
The first hour was enjoying the buffet. They had standard brunch food like waffles and fried chicken, but also food with Asian flair like vegetable yakisoba and apple kimchi. It has a little something for everyone.
The second hour was the show and it was amazing! All the queens were fabulous. I was also impressed with how on point the service staff were, making sure we had everything we needed.
Thank you to EVERYONE at Perry’s for helping my cousins’ big 21st birthday memorable. They asked me when we could go back.
came for happy hour and left very pleased! 4 stars because the price is quite high— a caipirinha, kirin, two rolls + shrimp burger for $60, but it was all very delicious and the roof is nice and breezy and has a pleasant view. the shrimp burger was particularly unique and good, definitely indulgent though, and the sushi was solid, good fish to rice ratio.
I’ve also been for drag brunch and it is fantastic!!! Honestly a good value considering how expensive HH was. Extremely well prepared, high quality brunch foods + some unorthodox additions like karaage and yakisoba! The queens are great too— don’t forget to bring cash for tips!
the salmon belly and shrimp/eel rolls were actually so good here, i was very pleasantly surprised. make sure to make a reservation for a larger group, especially on a friday night! i think they were a bit understaffed, but everyone was really nice.
We came here for the drag brunch for my sister's bachelorette party. It was the best! Each person buys a ticket and it comes with entry and a buffet and then drinks are an extra charge. The drinks have fun names and the food was excellent! They had a large variety of foods and lots of vegeterian options. And the desserts were fantastic! The show was so much fun. The performers really get into it and sometimes pull people in from the crowd to dance with them. They even brought all the people up who were celebrating a birthday or bachelorette party and gave them each a shot and had them dance for tips. There were lots of laughs had. I would definitely come back and watch these talented, entertaining queens again!
One of the best dinner we had in a while in D.C.! We came on a whim, no reservation, but they quickly sat us and from then on everything was just easy flowing, delicious, and exactly what we wanted. Udon clams noodles were to die for! So much rich, umami taste, I didn't want this dish to end. Sushi were also decent. A great casual night out overall.
Great new chef offering creative delicious food. Favorites are the edamame dumplings, shrimp burger and seasonal salads.
Perry’s was a fantastic dinner choice. The food was fantastic, & I can’t recommend the edamame dumplings enough. Will definitely be coming back.
Tima was an amazing waitress! She made me feel super comfortable with my gluten allergy, taking extra time to let me know what I could eat on the menu. She also made special drink recommendations and we LOVED it! Thank you Tima for the best experience! More waitresses should be like her❤️❤️❤️
We had dinner on their rooftop terras. Great find and worth a d-tour. They have a very nice selection of sushi’s as well as other Asian dishes. Prices are pretty reasonable. They also offer a happy hour at the bar. Good selection of wines by the glass and some pretty special cocktails!
I mean, I cried. It was that much of a wonderful time. We went here for Perry’s Drag Brunch (Top Drag Brunch in the Nation by the way) and had theeee Best time!
Food is in a buffet style. Everything was seasoned and tasted amazing. For Brunch (3) ladies performed and the phrase “Take My Money,” will never be the same again. We loved the atmosphere, music, performances, food and everything else.
Come here at LEAST 20 minutes early to find parking. Bring cash or bills to exchange please. Really can’t express how great of a time it was. Awesome staff/management team and really beautiful atmosphere.
I’m definitely going again. Also, Congratulations to the Performers who were celebrating their Birthday and upcoming Wedding, respectively. It was beautiful meeting you all. Encourage anyone and everyone to go.
Very old building w interesting structure/architecture and great roof top. Right at Columbia Rd in Adam's Morgan are. I've read about them from my food blogger friend, and I felt a bit sad when I went. Because this was the place we'd kept passing through all the time. First, the place is really popular. Unless you are sitting at one of the bars (one in the rooftop one in the main room as sushi counter), chances are high that you'll have to wait to be seated. Very limited menu in terms of entrees other than sushi /sashimi platters. We tried two special rolls. Mine was Toro on top tuna inside. it was just perfect. Yellowtail nigiri was surpsingly good. They know fish market very well. 5 of chefs at the sushi counter that are pretty busy. I confirmed that they have a Japanese woman, chief chief, overviews things. We tried miso clams soup. It was delicious. Macha cheesecake is worthy to try. Prices are fair.
I came here to try the Omakase Nigiri experience (my first one) and was great. Could be biased but I think if you haven't done it before, this is a great place to try it for the first time! It was reasonably priced and the fish was so delicious and had the "melt in your mouth" + big sigh of joy effect.
We also got the Mentaiko Udon Noodles and Cucumber Sesame Salad. The noodles were so rich and buttery with the egg yolk complimenting the dish well. As surprising as it might be, my favorite of the two was the cucumber salad. It was perfectly balanced and refreshing. Honestly, I could've just eaten that for dinner.
For cocktails we ordered the Sweetheart, Sakura Maru, and the Dragonfly. 10/10 recommend. I don't think anyone would be disappointed with them. The Sakura Maru was recommend by our waitress and was my favorite of the 3. Super light and refreshing towards the end of the meal.
THE BEST DRAG BRUNCH EVER!!! From beginning to end, it was truly AWESOME! Justin took our reservation and he was excellent. When we arrived, the staff who checked us in was very welcoming. The food was delicious. THEN....THE SHOW!!!
The emcee was fabulous. The entertainers were amazing especially the star (see photo) OMG!!! SHE WAS INCREDIBLE! We went to celebrate my 62nd birthday and it was truly the BEST birthday ever!!! I HAD SO MUCH FUN!!!!!! I highly recommend!!!
We went to the Drag Brunch today and it was AWESOME! Good food, good drinks, some of the most amazing and charismatic performers I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. The amount of happy energy from the dancers and the audience was even more intoxicating than the alcohol!
My first trip there. We had a group of 12 and had a blast. I couldn't believe the length of the buffet line. There was a wide variety of food, and all decently done. I was probably most surprised by the fried chicken. It was like popcorn shrimp, except it was chicken, and tastier than expected. I tried a piece while serving myself just to make sure. Staff was good and the "ladies" gave it their all. The music was lively, costumes good, and performances appropriately exaggerated. A nice surprise was the Emcee calling out special occasions and individually addressing each person. A great time was had by all.
