Best soups (chicken lemon or lentil)
Gyro was tasty even though was thick sliced (would have really good if thin sliced). Anyway, great place to eat fast and good.
Missed the Avgolemono for the past 3 years of the pandemia.
I tried different Greek restaurants where they make Avgolemono, but they wouldn’t match the thickness and taste from this place.

Iconic carry out with terrific Greek food. A downtown DC institution and deservedly so. Spanakopita and lamb are always delicious.
One tiny downside: no time to ponder what you want to order — there can be long lines and the owners keep things moving. Take a look at the online menu beforehand.
This place is an institution. The avgolemono age spanakopita alone are enough reason to go, but I've never had anything here that I didn't love. The specials change all the time and are always worth trying. It's a tiny takeout place with a lot of character, and it's done if the best food in DC. ❤️

Best gyro I've had in DC, or anywhere for that matter. As someone who usually hates feta, I'm perfectly fine with it here because it's much fresher. The best time to come is when it's colder outside because the avgolemono (chicken and lemon soup) is one of the highlights of the menu.
I love the Greek Deli SO much. I almost always get the lamb platter but anything from the hot table is great. The portions are huge so I usually have leftovers, making it a great bargain.
