Found this place by chance. The place we were headed was closed. GREAT FIND! It was fantastic! Diverse menu with many flavorful choices. The Ginger Shrimp Noodles were perfect. My honey had Chix and Waffles, also outstanding!

AWESOME FUN!. Have been going for at least 3 years for dinner, breakfast and family celebrations. The food is always excellent, the soups are outstanding and the service and friendliness is what you want in a restaurant. Excellent value for what you get, simple, easy to hang out and casual. A little gem in the city!

Great food, cool crowd, good value...and yet. I have eaten here half a dozen times and I love it. The dinner is good, the lunch is really good, and the brunch is outstanding. Almost every time I've been there, I've ended up talking to a stranger. This place has actually pulled off a great sense of community.

Unlike the fruit smoothies at Tynan (and most coffee shops around here), they put fruit in theirs. Yum!

My main complaint, which has been an issue several times, has to do with their bizarre hours. Who closes at 9 pm on a Saturday night -- especially when you have a mature clientele and a well stocked bar? And it is frustrating that they have cool cafe vibe but they close early on Sunday afternoons. Plus, what's the point in having those great door-sized windows on the front and a neat bar overlooking the street if the windows are closed on a pleasant summer morning?

Do eat here, but please do give them feedback.

Great food, very friendly owners who take pride in their concoctions, and a really nice neighborhood place. Try the hand cut fries and Juanita's Punch. She comes out of the back to make it for you.

GRAND Vegan Food. My friend and I went to this spot on 5.27.2011 for vegan night via a GROUPON(yippee). The food was FANTABULOUS. We had a BBQ Vurger and a Bacon and Cheese Vurger with baked sweet potato fries and we also tried the regular baked fries. Everything was FANTASTIC. This is a definite new spot. Additionally, the decor and the service(our server was VERY accomodating and even gave us the sample of the other baked fries on the HOUSE) was awesome!

I'll be back.

SN when we were leaving, the place was getting crowded - the seating area is small and vegan food is served only on FRIDAY and SATURDAY!

Wonderful and wow. Last night my husband and I had a wonderful meal. My pork chop was inches thick, served with fresh spinach flavored with garlic, and yam that tasted heavenly. My husband wasn't hungry, and just had a caesar salad, with perfect anchovy-flavored dressing, though I ended up sharing the pork chop etc. with him, the portions were so large. The young waittress was very pretty and very kind, and a young man - maybe the manager? - as we were leaving, asked how our meal was. The friendliness made us feel touched, and welcome. Great service, delicious food, generous portions, for not very much money. Wow. Nothing here that isn't real, natural and fresh, and well thought out.

Two thumbs up!. Great for a quick coffee or a full-on breakfast. I haven't tried the non-breakfast options yet but definitely plan to do so. They've always been super-accomodating for any menu changes I've asked them to make for my order. Big, tasty omelets, hearty homefries or even polenta and mushrooms for the more discerning palette. I love that the menu is varied and creative and yet the place has none of the pretentiousness found at most other DC coffeehouses.

... the staff consistently commits little blunders, but the food was really good and cheap. Well, to repeat everything we read, that pretty much summed up our experience

Update: Went back for dinner and everything was amazing from the drinks to the catfish to the all day menu. Loved it. Great spot with reasonably priced food. Went for brunch and everyone enjoyed their food. Brioche French toast is heavenly and the waffles are crispy and fresh. Eggs and side meats are great as well. Location was clean and staff was great. Bravo!

First time going there for my wife and I. Food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. The service was slow, especially given the fact that it was not busy when we arrived at all. We don’t get our drinks until the food came out. Would have preferred them earlier. The 20 percent gratuity that was automatically added to the check was definitely overboard. Despite this…we would go back.

This place is always amazing. So delicious and feels like a 'mom and pop' restaurant. Diverse menu and specialty cocktails on their chalkboard. Highly suggest the chicken and waffles or the branzino.

after a short stay in DC we decided to go for breakfast at first we stopped in a local IHOP but it was super packed. I came across this hidden gem after a Google search. I so glad we stopped by. The atmosphere was amazing! We found a quiet table in the back. I had Chicken and Waffles and it was good!!! The best breakfast I ever had !!! Chicken seasoned to perfection and waffles crispy and golden. My husband had "The Big Breakfast" with a cappuccino which was delicious! I can't find nothing like it where I live I would definitely visit again.

Highlands is my go to breakfast spot. The Belgian waffles are so GOOD, the adult beverages are always, and they serve the best fried green tomatoes. Oh, how could I forget the shrimp and grits and shrimp linguine! You have got to try all the dishes mentioned above and more! The only negative thing is that seating can be hard to come by depending on the day and time.

We live in the area and so grateful for this spot!!! We came at 11am.. and it was packed with dine in and take out. We got two lattes, shrimp and grits and cubano. Everything was delicious. The shrimp was perfectly seasoned and cooked. Cubano pork was full of flavor.. Can't wait to go back and try the curry and oxtail. The service was also attentive and quick.

I love this place. The food is amazing & full of flavor. I’ve been working my way through the menu & I don’t think they have a bad dish. The servers are also very friendly.

The food is good, but the service is 30 to 40 minutes too slow. We ordered a waffle breakfast and three cubano sandwiches. This is not my first time encountering such a long wait. Even the check (20% gratuity added) was slow to arrive at the table. Such a small place should have faster service. There were three servers (one was the bartender who stepped in as a server) and things were still slow. Maybe someone in the kitchen should be on top of expediting orders. I recommend you go as the food is good, but you'll have a long wait.
