This is a new location for this family run Mexican restaurant. It's an explosion of colorful decor. If you had a bad day, come and unwind here. If the lively atmosphere doesn't make you happy, the margaritas will. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was patient and helpful. We were seated right away. Service is fast. The food is fresh and tasty. Did I mention the margaritas? Well, I tried and loved the Georgia Peach flavored one. This one is served on the rocks. They also have about 5 frozen flavor options. It's loud with music playing and people socializing, but not obnoxious. It's a fairly small restaurant, but the mirrors give it a very open feel. If I lived here locally, I would frequent this restaurant. Good luck for this new location.
Walking from the DuPont Metro station, I noticed Alero and decided to stop for lunch. I opted to play it safe and ordered a chicken and steak fajita. It arrived with the usual sides and overall I had a great experience. The restaurant was not busy so the food came out rather quickly. Service was good and timely and I plan to return again when in the area and hopefully try them for dinner.
Even though we were looking for some mexican restaurant because we thought it would be cool for the Dia de los muertos, there was nothing special about the date, which was a disappointment. We thought it would have a beautiful celebration as the day deserves. Anyway, the food was delicious, the music was good, and the place is cute, well decorated. We liked it.
We really enjoyed this place. We had the chimicanga, enchiladas, seafood soup, and carnitas fajitas. All were good. Decor is nice. Service was great. I would definitely recommend this place.
Pros:
Nicely decorated
Clean bathrooms
Friendly service
Tacos were good
Cons:
They didn't have white Mexican cheese dip.
They couldn't make me agua mineral preparada, but they had a bartender.
First time here, hoping not the last! Quick to be seated on a Saturday night. Great service. Pineapples margaritas were tonight’s special. Asked for recommendations and he did not steer us wrong. The Salmon Mexicano was delicious and the fajitas came out sizzling! So much food! Ask for extra tortillas because 3 was not enough! Box some food and save room for dessert…churros with chocolate and caramel dipping sauce! Are you kidding me?!? How have we not heard of this place before? The walls and ceiling are decorated with so much color and everywhere you look you see something different!
Very friendly staff, decent food. Music is a bit too loud.
Delicious Mexican food! The decor is bright and fun! You get one basket of chips and salsa for free and are supposed to pay $5 for subsequent chips, but they gave us two for free. Their blackberry margarita was really good as well!
Excellent food. My only real complaint was not getting asked if I needed any tea refills until as I was paying my check.
Order the recommended dishes on the menu, and you'll be fine. There is a legend on the menu that indicates which are their specialties. Sangria was nice. Staff were good. The place is perpetually busy l.
Picturesque place, decent food, excellent brunch deal. Went in one Saturday and the place offered a magnificent brunch deal: $26 per person for one hour of sitting, bottomless drinks and one meal.
We actually ended up spending 4 hours rather than one with no extra fee thanks to our kind waiter. Bottomless drinks were great, especially the michelada which is an authentic beer-based Mexican drink. Only con of Alero would be the food because servings were good (i.e, big) but the taste was average. Lastly, place’s decoration is accurate to the source material so a Mexican vibe is indeed ensued!
Love the atmosphere. The food was delicious. The drinks were wet and good.
We had eaten at a restaurant near by and just stopped in for drinks. The wait staff was great. We went in for pineapple margaritas and they were delicious. I asked for jalapeños in mine with a tajin rim and it was fire (delicious).
The food was okay, the service great and the atmosphere bright and cheerful. An overall enjoyable lunch.
This restaurant is definitely a hole in the wall and one of my favorites. They have a great atmosphere with some amazing decorations. The food is so authentic. It’s a must go to place if you visit DC. Try something different and off the wall instead of a trend.
Solid place. The veggie enchiladas were tasty but felt thin on the filling. The salsa was excellent. They have a lot of interesting items on the menu.
