I had a gloomy day yesterday and I stopped in to kill some time. I've been before but something about this particular day stood out. The atmosphere was right and I dig the #resist vibe. Food was comfort at its best. Grill cheese and tomato soup. My server was on point, the perfect balance between there and not. I don't recall his name but I was at a 2top by window and server station. Thanks for the mood lift!
A wonderful place, with wonderful people. I was here for the Sunday poetry/jazz open mic. Everyone was so friendly and supportive and welcoming, audience and staff alike. This place deserves your money.
Delicious food and great service for the most part. Sweet potato pancakes are addictive, and they do a good job with fish—try the catfish! Lots of options for vegans, gluten free, too. And now they have Trivia Night—fun!
This is the only place I eat shrimp and grits. Now I'm in love with the lamb burger. Great atmosphere, service and food. Loved it!
Very cool place! Great food, great atmosphere, art, and literature!
Love this place. It gets pretty crowded at brunch on Sunday but if you go for brunch on Saturday, it is easy-breezy to get a table right away. I tried the sweet potato hash for the first time and LOVED IT!!! Definitely recommend.
Love the gluten and dairy free selection. I am a nursing mom who had to eliminate both due to my son's allergies and this place offered me a place where I can actually eat again. The vegan nachos are amazing
Love this place! Very friendly staff and great food! I always stop here whenever I’m in D.C.
The atmosphere, service, and food was great. Staff was professional and very friendly. Parking was a concern, but it worked out!
Holy cow, the nachos with chili were so good!! Very friendly place, be back soon.
Good food. Friendly staff. And surrounded by books. What could be better?
Yesterday was my first time at this location. It was really nice. I was there to hear Kwame Alexander and the room was the perfect size. It was not over crowded, the staff was very polite. I will definitely be back.
First time dining here! As we entered the restaurant the ambiance was so cozy. We were seated immediately and given the choice of hands free menu or hard copy. We were pleasantly surprised while photographing when June photobombed us unknowingly he was to be our waiter. My wife took me and her best friend’s picture for our Birthday. Let me tell you - June’s service was excellent, timely & he was very personable! His recommendations & recap was spot on from the drinks to the food which was delicious. I recommend you ask for June as your waiter the next time OR first time you visit.
Great food. Amazing customer service. Lovely ambiance. Parking may be hard to find on weekends, but when you do, be prepared to be wowed by healthy cuisines served in the mist of curious folks and educational books that challenge your thinking. The space hosts open mics and other creative and arts events. Check their website for a list.
Food was really good here. Visiting a very close friend in the Maryland/DC area and stopped here for lunch on the way home. Had crab grits and the Lamb burger. Delicious. She had the chorizo and chicken hash...also delightful. They did get the instructions on how the eggs are to be prepared accurate but they made up for it with the quick fix and everything else being so damn good. Good people too...I'll be hack when in the area. Was also really feeling the books n art vibe.
The best seitan sandwich I've ever had outside Berlin - and incredible books! I couldn't stop myself from buying too many.
Large menu with a great variety of vegan-friendly and health conscious options! Perfect spot for brunch with family or friends. This spot is more low key than the downtown busboys, smaller bookstore but nice outdoor seating. The vegan “egg” wrap and Oaxaca omelette are standouts. I always order a side of grits. Wouldn’t recommend the sweet potato hash, it was pretty underwhelming. It’s a huge menu so can’t wait to come back to try more items!
Busboys and Poets is a culinary gem that left me speechless! Their Pork Vegan Rolls and Fried Cauliflower were absolutely phenomenal. The rolls were a perfect balance of savory vegan pork wrapped in a crispy pastry, while the cauliflower was crispy on the outside and tender inside. An outstanding experience all around!
We had the catfish and the chicken chorizo/shrimp pasta, two different coffee drinks, and the two bean soup. The food arrived piping hot and was fantastic. The grits with the catfish needed a little salt, but the capers were phenomenal. They were fried and crispy and added a nice salty touch to the dish. The soup was so so, but the coffees were very good, toasty and toasty flavor but not burnt. Will definitely come back to try other things.
The chicken panini at Busboys and Poets is the best thing I've tasted in a while. Their beer list is not so great - seemingly only high-alcohol beers, so not so good for those of us want a beer without feeling drunk after finishing it. Food and service are great, although the bar and eating areas seem a bit clinical - it would be nice to have a bit more of a bohemian atmosphere, and with maybe a few armchairs dotted around the place for those of us who like to sit in comfort. It's nice to be able to have one place to go to sip beer and enjoy a good meal, and browse books as well.
Delicious food, great service and beautiful atmosphere!
Always a good experience when i visit this chain restaurant. Menu is light and atmosphere is never fail. I have the steak and asparagus kale sald. They are soo good. The firecracker shrimp is really good but spicy. Shrimp & crab ball is yummy. Server is very nice and friendly.
Visited frequently when I resided in the DMV area. The food and atmosphere makes one feel comfortable. As a citizen in the Divided States of America, it is one of the few restaurants I will eat food in. In addition to food, it provides an opportunity to learn something new by providing a selection of books that you may not find in B & N. I will visit every time I am in the DC area.
The best breakfast 🥞🍳. The sweet potato pancakes are incredible 😋. You have to try this place at least once, then you decide how often you want to come.
This place serves delicious food and drinks with plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. On weekends it can get a bit too crowded but it is worth the wait. The staff are welcoming and friendly. You can browse through a great selection of books while waiting. The sweet potato fries are that come with the meals are one of my favorites. Great decor with rich history.
Relaxing and happy memories: I appreciated having a really nice cup of tea and the mekhleme as a nice brunch combo with my son. They also have a nice mini-stage where my wife and I have seen some good local comedy routines. I can say I've never had a bad experience, and able to give all 5 stars for what it is - not fancy, good and solid food for any diet (vegetarian, vegan, etc.), and they don't rush you - a good standard go-to place.
During these times it was hard to find anything to eat and be seated !!! But we decided on Busboys...my home girl and I went in and was seated the place was practically empty! (No surprise there) the service was good but there was a 10pm curfew on alcohol which made for very awkward interaction and it was almost annoying how they carried the entire process. Between the manager and server they stopped pass the table a total of 7 times to “reiterate” the new rule. From 9:32pm when we were sat til we actually got our drinks at 9:51pm!!! And please note the stalking that took place at 9:58pm I literally had my drink in hand being watched by the manager! I get it but sheesh that was uncomfortable!!! The food was good and we had a good time...I’ll for sure be returning BEFORE the prohibition hours ensue 😂 but all in all it was good time I’d definitely return !
