First thing you do is disregard the "plastic clad lunch menu". Second thing you do is deeply study the sheet of paper that is given to you with the daily specials. Any meal contained on this page will be excellent. It is very odd that Folks sits next to the Palm. The latter offers the Power Lunch, the former offers a Powerful Lunch. Go with a friend or go alone... just go. And don't be put off by the homage to entropy that the eatery exudes. There are so many points of interest at counter they it will keep you busier than Sardines wall of stars. If you go to DC go here, you won't regret a mouthful. Oh and ask someone behind the counter the story of the restaurant.

Truly one of DC’s greatest establishments. History is rampant in it’s satire decorated walls that tightly fold like a house of cards around a tiny row of bar stools where advice is dolled out by the purveyor as sprinkles of acid rain. Be careful where you sit, or a wrath of snark might bestow your mid-day snack. If you are up for a joust, then sit as close to the old cash register as possible and leave your ears open.

Lots of fun, top-notch diner/deli food: corned beef and pastrami and sides, and very good crabcakes. Our waitress might as well have been on roller skates; she was really on the ball.

We were visiting DC on vacation and I was craving a Reuben sandwich and this place did not disappoint. Great hole in the wall place. The specials seemed to be the highlight but the Reuben was calling to me.
Ion Mocanu
Friendly and funny owner. Food is pretty good. They have really interesting sandwiches. Will come back.
Ariel M'ndange-Pfupfu
It's a down to earth diner that has creative specials and does lunch simple and well.
Harold Salters
The best lunch-only coffee shop counter style place in DC since forever.
Jonny Newburgh
Great sandwiches and attitude. Too bad they're only open for lunch during the workweek.
Michael Goldschmidt
The cooking is very good at this small, quaint lunch spot.
