The Bukom Cafe is a vibe. It is warm, intimate, and soulful. The owner is friendly moving around the cozy space checking in on all. The bartenders are attentive and charming. What is unique about this Afro Caribbean spot in the heart of Adams Morgan is their food. It is shockingly delicious. Getting good food, good music, and good people in one place is rare. Even if you just come to have a drink and listen to the band, stay for a meal. There is someone in the back making magic. πŸͺ„πŸ«•

This is an African restaurant in DC. They appear to be doing renovations inside, as the walls were pretty bare. The service was ok. On the tables were QR codes where you order and pay online. The food is definitely spicy. The price was a bit high. But the music was nice.

In July 2022, we as a party of three had the ecowas okra soup, the egusi, chicken yassa with jollof rice, and kumasi nkatikwan. It was my second time visiting Bukom, after the first time going in September 2019. In comparison to back in 2019, depending on the specific dishes, the nkatikwan was lacking spices while the rest of the dishes were filled with spices. Not sure if it was a one-time thing, but it was still pretty good. Atmospherically, it was evident that the place was full of rich cultural elements, including paintings, music, and the overall style. We did not manage to have any fufu since they were out, so we had pounded yam instead. But in 2019 we have had fufu and it was simply amazing. I think for lots of people, this place could be a hit or miss. But when it hits, it definitely hits, so I would recommend going multiple times to ensure you have your good experience, because this place is very authentic from every aspect and is worth going multiple times.

We went here while visiting the DC area and it was my first time trying African food. We went for lunch as soon as they opened. They were just getting set but welcomed us in. Staff were professional but not necessarily friendly. It was rare to see them smile but they were helpful in answering our questions. Place is decent. Clean bathrooms as well. Now onto the food. We enjoyed our appetizers more than the meal. Beef suya and goat pepper soup is a must try. We also got red snapper, egusi, mama wings and fried plantains. All good food but not sure I got a wow factor. Slowly more people started coming in a the vibe was more homey. Drinks were served in a small cup but definitely packed a punch. I recommend the Agege Slammer. Parking can be difficult as it's on a busy main road so give yourself time to park. We will visit again if in the area.

The food was beautifully packaged, not the most important part but my eyes was sure pleased. The wait time is the quickest i have experienced in a restaurant and everything i purchased was tasty. Service was top notch. Got a frequent check up to ensure everything was fine.

Good food ! I was skeptical at first from the previous reviews. For a Nigerian smoky party jollof rice, their jollof rice is the best. The suya and the pepper soup were excellent, moderately spicy and not overwhelming at all. Excellent customer service. Keep it up.

I got to hang out there with a friend late the Saturday night. The live band was amazing and audio guys who helped make it sound really good were awesome. I'm a bit of an audiophile and the space seems impossible to make sound right due to dimensions but it is still awesome. I loved the African beer (Star) and also the wings were phenomenal. My friend had some food that left over that was amazing even the next day! Highly recommend Bokum and I'll always go there whenever I can. Great hospitality too!

The food at Bukom Cafe is well seasoned, well prepared, delicious and authentic which is why we continue to dine there. That said, the fish and plantains amounts to about 12 slices of plantain and the tiniest piece of fish I’ve ever seen, which was noticeably less food from just a year ago - a disgrace even at the $15 price point. Other entree dishes were better aligned with the pricing. The staff can be hit or miss. The fountain soda machine was not working properly during our last visit and the staff didn’t seem inclined to fix it - even after pointing it out, they just brought another drink with the same issue. We also asked for a small dish of water to use throughout the meal as the pounded yam and soup were being eaten by hand - instead we were directed to use the bathroom (presumably for a one time hand washing). Generally speaking though the staff is quite friendly. The ambiance on a Saturday is loud and lively - if you want a calmer, quieter meal visit on virtually any other day.

Great place for drinks food and live music!! I've been going for over 25 years. The only downfall is the traffic and parking is horrible.

Not very nice place, not even the owner is nice but the menu full of interesting dishes (very good suya) and a good Star or Goulder beer make the place worth a visit.

100% WORTH IT. AS SOMEONE WHO'S FAMILY BACKGROUND IS GHANAIAN. I WAS QUITE HAPPY WITH THE FOOD AND WOULD RECOMMEND TO HAVE SOME GREAT WEST AFRICAN EATS. ALTHOUGH YOU MIGHT WANT TO COME A BIT EARLIER IN THE EVENING AS THE BEEF STEW WAS GREAT SOME WAS A BIT ROUGH. MY FRIENDS & I WERE SATISFIED THE WAITRESS WAS AWESOME AND GAVE ME SOME GARI TO TAKE HOME. YOU MADE THIS BITTHDAY BOY QUITE HAPPY WITH YOUR SERVICE & THE LIVE MUSIC AND DECOR WAS A1 9.5/10 WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

One of my favorite places in DC! I’ve started coming here regularly and I always have a good time. The food is perfect, staff is attentive, and the environment is welcoming. They also have live music sometimes, which takes the vibe up even more
