My only issue is this is a cash only establishment. I've passed by this area for years to and from northwest Indiana and it never appeared on my food radar until yesterday since I was at a pub minutes away for the Bear Game. This steak burrito is a serious over a lb. Don't let the pics fool you. I am not big on flour tortillas, but you can't get tortillas this big. This flour tortillas was lightly grilled so it's a sturdy for support. So worth every peso I paid for it.

Hungry for Mexican? This place does not play. You order, They are ON it. Food is ready super fast. Their nachos are also very unique as cut tortilla loaded with the toppings on each piece.

The food is very good,we enjoyed our dinner tonight we had the steak burrito,taco dinner,tortadinner all come with rice and beans.We ordered guacamole but it did not come with chips when we asked for chips they charged us a additional $2.75 another note this restaurant is cash only. Great place to come and enjoy authentic Mexican Food!!!

Food was a fair price and served well on a detailed plater, the portion size was good enough for a big boy or someone who wanted the big burrito ( I recommend the steak burrito dinner) And for being in the Waukegan Illinois area this place was extremely clean workers are constantly cleaning the area which is a must in this day and age with so people being sick in public. Give this place a A ratings so don't be fooled by the old building you should check it out.

El Famous is what most others are measured by. Its simple, good food at a great price. Nothing fancy. Just good Mexican food. It is a CASH ONLY place. They do have an ATM available inside as well. They do have a drive thru as well. I would recommend calling in your order first when using the drive thru. I've been going here since '94. And its the best to me. Give it a try for yourself. Bring cash. And enjoy!!

One of the best burrito places I've been to! On par with the best authentic burrito places in Los Angeles! I ordered burrito with lengua(cow tongue) with extra meat and boy my burrito was ginormous for only $8!! The sauces are really good too! The lengua was so flavorful and tender and just melts in my mouth!! Will come back for more!
The girl server was rude tho.
I ordered for to go and asked for a box and she gave me the dirty look. I stared back at her and she was sorry immediately.

Mexican comfort food at great prices with lightning fast service. If everything wasn't fresh made you would think this was fast food. Yep. Got my meal before my mouth knew it was ready. This is a go to place for me and has been consistently good for as long as I know. Under $10 and now it is time for a nap. Just remember CASH ONLY

Very tasty and decent variety of Mexican food available. We ordered some tacos, burritos, and sopes (small taco pizza). The burritos for the most flavorful and very nice size quantity. They are a cash only restaurant within ATM machine. Nice and clean atmosphere and friendly wait staff. Conveniently located near our hotel as we're here visiting my son's US Navy boot camp graduation. Next time I'll try the fajitas. If you're looking for something close to original Mexican I would recommend this location to check out.

El Famous Burrito is great! They remind me of this place called Jalisco' s from back in the day. The Nachos are the best I have ever had. Their burritos are absolutely delicious, full of meat. All of their food has plenty of meat which is good. Their customer service is great. Always pleasant. They are always cleaning when I am there. The only thing they need to invest in is getting a credit card machine. They would probably get more business. Otherwise I love the steak burritos and steak nachos. 😋
